I always like to cook Malaysian food at home. It is a good idea to get some ingredients from www.asiansupermarket365 and cook at home. They have everything.

then get some ingredients online and cook at home 2/6/2009

Worst Malaysian, for heavens sake! 2/1/2008

Please dont waste your money on this restaurant. If you really have had great malay food like I have had in the past (penang, nyonya, etc), you'd see my light. The folks who have given 5 stars dont know what good malay food is. The food is greasy and grilled is actually fried. The service, as the previous recommender has mentioned, is truly horrible. I have had asian service and am not new to it but, here, they have absolute disregard for the customer. If you want to encourage these sort of business to flourish, go ahead, because there other truly great restaurants that can use your patronage. Pros: Plenty of seating, empty space for a friday night Cons: Worst food, service and value more

Bad representation of malay food, rude waiter 2/1/2008

Bad Food,Extremely Rude Waiter. Ordered Tofu and it was old, chewy and the sauce was stale and the waiter told me it was my fault that i ordered it. I am from Malaysia and I can guarantee that you are better off eating elsewhere. Cons: Everything, Waste of money and time more

Best Malaysian food in Houston 8/31/2007

I'm a Malaysian from Kuala Lumpur and this place is a nice slice of home. My first experience was on the 2nd. week they were open. I have been going there ever since ( ~2 years). I have brought friends from all cultures and ethnicities there and they all loved it. Roti canai is a must, and the satays as well. My bf (texan) loves the Char Kueh Teow (flat noodles) and the Malaysian Tofu and for drinks, Teh tarik / Lychee drink. These are our regular orders every week. The rest are really good, very authentic. Not too sure about the Assam Laksa - not the type I am used to. Sambals are EXACTLY like the ones in M'sia. I would recommend it to anyone interested in trying Malaysian food...fusion of Malay, Chinese and Indian food. Pros: Food, service Cons: Location - a little hard to find for first-timers. more

worst malasiyan food I've ever had 6/7/2007

I came to see my brother from Charlotte NC. And I saw this Cafe Malay, I thought the would be great. Pros: service Cons: everything else more

Excellent Food, Low Prices 9/16/2006

First time to eat Malay / Singapore food; won't be the last. Food was great, service was fast & friendly (early on a Saturday evening). Waiter made suggestions as to what was good (she was 100% right). Had beef & chicken satay, & Roti Canai (sort of pancake) for appetizers. Entre of Sizzling Malay Tofu - a house specialty. Side of Mee Siam - stiry fry noodles with lots of goodies. Menu is extensive, will take many more trips to get a good cross section of their offerings. Easy to get to as it is only 1 block East of beltway 8 on Westheimer. more

GOOD FOOD! GOOD PRICE! 8/3/2006

Being a Singaporean living here in Houston, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food at Cafe Malay. For starters, definitely go for the Beef & Chicken Satay w/ the delectable midly-spicy peanut sauce. Entrees - The Hainanese Chicken Rice was almost like the real thing back home and the Malaysian Tofu Special is to die for. Service is very prompt and the prices aren't out-of-this-world. Pros: Service, Value, Quality of food Cons: Ambience .... desperately needs NEW music selection. more

Bad customer service, every things is cooked with fish 6/30/2006

The whole palce smells with bad oil. The hostess is not wanting to serve and almost bangs the food on the table. We cud not eat the food except the chanai roti. The owner had no remorse, just kept his head down counting the money. more

Food from home 11/7/2005

I have found my home away from home. Am from Malaysia, and was ecstatic to have a place that does fabulous nasi lemak, rendang, satay and all the other dishes. They even have my fave veggies - in spice sambal sauce. Ambience and price are great. Wonderful place and convenient location;) Pros: Ample parking, good price, good food more

As Good As it Get... 11/4/2005

For those who dare and love exotic and spicy food, than you wont be dissapointed. This place is a MUST TRY when you are in Houston, at least once! You either hate it or love it. Dishes you should try are nasi lemak, Hainan chicken and the variation of noodles - fried or soup based. The owner is from Malaysia, so, thats a good sign. Overall rate 3.5/5, service and ambient are very mediocre but thats not important in this case! Pros: Food Cons: Service, Ambient, Location more

Fabulous find! 8/22/2005

I'm thrilled to find this fabulous little Asian restaurant, tucked in the strip plaza on Westheimer and Seagler, just inside Beltway. It is very clean and elegantly decorated, and the food, wow, flavors galore. I love the Roti Chanai lacy bread with curry dipping; flounder grilled in banana leaf; Hainan chicken was tender and moist; curry veggie pot; and the Thai-style sweet & spicy shrimp. Price is extremely reasonable too. They have a weekday early bird special, $7 gets you an appetizer and entree. I love the taste, which is far different from all the other Asian restaurants. Wait staff was very friendly. Oh, make sure you try their coconut drink, it's an actual coconut cracked open with a straw and spoon to scrape the coconut. Definitely recommended. Pros: Great unique flavor, Inexpensive, Clean Cons: hidden behind more
