This place is rude. The make a big deal about large parties. Said they would seat us if we ordered fast. Was practically pushed out the door. Not a good place to go to relax. The food is not so great as well. It's definitely not worth the stress of getting in and being rushed...the entire time. Better off going up the street to Hinanos for a delicious $4 hamburger and an ice cold beer served from someone who's not rushing you out the door. A BIG thumbs down. Pros: By the beach Cons: Rushed. Rude service. more

Garlic Rolls - That's Amore 4/21/2009

Sometimes, you're just in the mood for a nice dinner atmosphere. C&O provides that. It's the perfect place for a warm evening dinner by the beach. Usually, the only thing holding me back from trekking to C&O for dinner is the fact that I know it's going to take me a while to find parking and even longer to wait for a table. BUT, in the end, it's usually worth it. Should you choose not to take a walk to the pier while you wait, make sure you grab some garlic rolls while you wait. They're the best. Go ahead and fill up on them - there's no use saving room for your dinner because you're not going to finish it anyway. It's Italian, of course the portions are large. The food is acceptable for the price, which is partially why I'm giving it only four stars. However, it's always nice knowing you're going to have leftovers for lunch the next day, so you're basically getting two meals in one. Lastly, make sure you have a glass of wine ready for when it comes time to sing ""That's Amore""! Pros: Fun atmosphere, garlic rolls Cons: Long waits, scarce parking more

I love this place, and have been here a dozen times, but I never come for the food, the only thing memorable for me and keeps me coming back are the garlic rolls. Yum! oh ya, and love the great location too, right by the beach. more

What happened?? 1/18/2009

For years, C & O has been the tourist trap that locals can't help but love. Italian singing in the garden patio, glorious toasts of cheap wine, decent food made delicious by the setting. Not having been since before the holidays, I looked forward to an enjoyable night at the ol' C & O. The day ran long, however, so we settled for a take-out order. I phoned in the order and, immediately after hanging up the phone from placing the order, realized I had ordered the wrong entree and phoned back to correct my order. Imagine my surprise when after being placed on hold by a rather abrupt waitress a manager, Flavio I believe his name is, picked up the phone and started yelling - literally - at me for attempting to change my order. I explained that I had just placed the order less than a minute before calling back, to which he yelled ""It was THREE minutes ago."" Despite my explanation that I had been on hold for 2 minutes, he continued yelling that I should nevertheless take the order and eat it the next day if I did not want it tonight. At that point, I canceled my order, to which he responded with increased rage and fumbling expletives. Whether this man is the owner or manager, I do not know, but I do know that I will never visit this restaurant again as long as he is there, despite more than 10 years of patronage. more

NOT GOOD! 10/17/2008

My friends have been raving about this place (""you've got to try the garlic rolls!"") so I went with them one day. I love a garlic roll as much as the next person, but these garlic rolls were not good. Stale and unappetizing. Everyone ordered different pastas...I tasted everyone's and no one's was good. Everything tasted like it came out of a jar from the grocery store, and it wasn't seasoned very well. more

It's in a fun neighborhood, but if you want authentic Italian food, go somewhere else. more

Big Hassle for Big Parties 9/4/2008

Be prepared to jump through some hoops if you have a large party. Parties over 15 people require a pre fixed menu. For around $25 per person (includes tax) they get a choice of 2 pastas, a salad and a chicken breast or 1 meatball. The problem is, you have to know exactly who is eating what before you can put in an order. They wont accept the ""half and half"" order. They say they need an exact count, even for the salads (ie; 10 caesars and 6 gardens). You also have to give them your credit card number to hold the table and sign a catering contract which gives you an exact time frame of how long you can have the table. I had my table until 9pm and I was being rushed out the door at 8:45 pm. I wasn't thrilled about that after my party had coughed up over $600 for dinner. You are also required to pay $0.75 per person if you choose to bring a cake or even cupcakes into the restaurant. They will not budge what so ever on that policy. Also, if somebody in your party cancels, you are required to give them 48 hours notice, otherwise you will be charged for their food. Also, they seem to overcharge on the wine because it's hard for people to keep track. If you start with a glass of wine, they will take it upon themselves to fill your glass, even if you don't ask and then charge you for a whole bottle. more

If you can stomach all of the rules and regulations and keep your party from getting annoyed at having to provide all of their details... it can be a fun time. My party had no idea what a hassle the whole thing was, so they showed up and thoroughly enjoyed the experience... even though we did have to take our dessert elsewhere. The rigatoni and pollo marsala were delicious and everybody got to take home left overs. more

Be careful of the garlic rolls, they are addicting. 8/4/2008

This is honestly my favorite restaurant up until now. It's where I take everyone that comes visit me in Socal. The service is great, the patio seating is cozy, the garlic rolls are AWESOME ( I even take some home with me at the end of the meal with my leftovers), and the food is excellent. I have yet to have a bad experience there and everyone that I bring ends up liking it too. The only negative thing I can think of is parking. It's located at the end of Washington Blvd so that area overall suffers from lack of parking spots. If you don't mind the walk, you could probably find something on Pacific, or you might get lucky on a meter right in front. Pros: Everything: food, value, service, patio, etc Cons: Parking more

It's all about the Knots 7/15/2008

Really cool place that is definitely worth the wait, which you can usually avoid if you call earlier that day. Has a really nice, hole in the wall kind of feel. Definitely offers solid, authentic Italian with jars of wine and barrel wine taps hung on the walls. It gets super crowded, and is definitely not an intimate dining experience, but it's all worth it for the garlic knots. The food is pretty good Italian, and they have a great selection, but the truth is the place is all about the endless garlic knots that keep coming and coming and coming to your table. Don't fill up on them, because the food is good and portions are pretty generous. But facts are facts, C &O's might as well be called ""The Garlic Knot Factory"" more

the entertainment and the food is worth the wait! 7/2/2008

Where else do the waiters & hosts sing and clink their wine glasses in delight with their patrons swarming the outdoor patio? The trattoria is very festive and fun and the menu offers endless options of traditional Italian dishes- plus the killer garlic rolls are really killer! I went here with my family for the first time last week and we had a wonderful time. There is a very genunine Italian authenticity about this place- I have never been to Itally- but I imagine it to be something like this restaurant! Pros: fun for the whole family Cons: crowded- but its worth it more

C & O Trattoria: The most fun restaurant in L.A.!! 5/31/2008

Having moved to Los Angeles from the East Coast, I was one that some would call a ""food snob"". When my new L.A. friends decided that it was time for me to try C & O Trattoria, I was doubtful that the restaurant would meet my lofty expectations. more
