Overall experience of living in Baton Rouge was good, good roomates, safe environment. But regarding the business practices of Burbank Commons, to say 1 sided would be kind. AC did not work for three weeks, 4 days and 3 attempts before they could provide a key that would open the bedroom door, Icemaker had not worked for months, the residents had given up hope (they did fix it though), and the peeling paint on door and over tub was the same when we left. We left early, subleasing, which is when the real strife began. We found the sublettor in early December. Your contract will say that you have to PAY for two weeks rent, while B.C. get's around to inspecting for damage. Then they continue to hold you responsible until the subleasor picks up their key, and as such have sent me the bill for 1 week in January, (with threats of late charges). Because it is my fault for not reading the contracts more carefully, I""ve been trying to pay it since January, sent checks two times. When I sent the payment, certified mail, B.C. didn't ""receive"", it and they continue to imply that they will send my debt to a collections agency and that I am unresponsive to them. My attorney says otherwise, but this is classic behavior of a big organization who pads their profits by screwing kids out of extra fees and penalties. It works because it's cheaper to pay than to fight, but that doesn't make it good business or ""right"". That was our experience, hope it is not yours. Don't blame the clerks in the office, they're just the gears in the machine. I prefer to think of them as powerless to do the right thing, rather than mindless or uncaring.
