WORST COMPANY EVER.....HANDS DOWN!!! 5/10/2012

I was a customer at At the Beach previously and had a bad experience so I should have known better than to go back. It had been about 5 years and I figured everyone deserves a second chance. They had just opened the Yukon store and it was near my house. I liked the idea that they had late hours, so I tried it again. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER! I signed up, fulfilled my 12 month contract. On the 13th month my debit card they had on file expired and I wasn't aware so when they tried to draft my account it didn't go through. When I went to the Yukon store to tan the assistant manager proceeded to tell me I had ""insufficient funds."" I beg your pardon....NEVER! Nor do you know me well enough to tell me that. After some investigation we figured it out. I called the next day, paid it over the phone and straightened it all out. I gave the girl on the phone my new card # and she told me everything was fine. I apologized for the negligence on my part, and we were good. SO I THOUGHT.... The next month I recieved a notice in the mail saying my payment was due soon. I tried to call customer service to see what was going on and waited on hold for 15 minutes before finally hanging up. I went to the Yukon store that night, told the manager what was going on, she verified my card # and told me everything was fine, it was going to draft, no worries. The next day my payment was supposed to draft, but it wasn't showing on my bank account. I went to the Yukon store that night, verified with the assistant manager again and she said, ""Sometimes it takes a day or two to show up on you bank account, don't worry about it."" NEXT DAY...I get a phone call from customer service, my payment is past due. I march straight to the Yukon store, the girl gets customer service on the phone, they say At the Beach computer and their computer didn't connect for some reason so my payment didn't come out. I say, just cancel my account, I'm done dealing with it. They say they can't because I didn't cancel 10 days before my draft. That is my draft that DIDN'T draft. So, finally I pay for another month, fill out the cancellation form to stop my account at the END of the month that I have just paid for. I go back in a week later to tan, and they have CLOSED my account. So....this means I paid for the month of May on April 30th, I go in on May 9th to tan because my account is supposed to be open until May 24th (per Anna at the NW 39th location, I even saw it with my own eyes on 4/30 when I was in there to make the payment). I ask her what she's going to do about it, she says NOTHING, I would have to call customer service myself. That is, the customer service that doesn't answer the phone when real customers call, only employees. I told her forget it. I marched my butt across the street to my bank, filled out an form to get my money back and At the Beach can take a flying leap to you know where. This is one company I will make sure EVERYONE I know does NOT go to. They treat their customers like crap and I think you have to have the worst attitude ever to even qualify for a job there. Their employees are the rudest people I have ever encountered! STEER CLEAR OF AT THE BEACH unless you like being taken advantage of!!!!!!!!!!! more

Lay off, would you? 2/26/2011

The employees for at the beach can be rude and pushy, granted. The contracts and corporate customer service are terrible, and they aren't forgiving of people trying to break a contract. I assure you, however, that not all of the employees are like that. There are several who really are just there to offer you excellent customer service along with your tanning experience. As well, until you have worked for at the beach you have no idea what kind of stress these poor kids are under. They are trained to approach EVERY PERSON EVERYDAY. On top of having to get customers in a bed (Sometimes over 200 will come in a shift. Imagine! 200 people BY YOURSELF in LESS THAN A DAY!), they must also clean EVERY SINGLE BED after it's been used. They must also tour and pitch EVERY new customer (Sometimes 10 in an hour!), on top of performing daily detailed cleaning duties, dealing with equipment issues, and still being able to access the knowledge needed to keep you from burning, and photoaging. As well they must be prepared to design and orchestrate a tanning schedule for each individual customer based on their skin type and tanning desires. Did you even know that the first day you came in the person you dealt with was instantly able to design and prescribe a tanning regiment, and lotion combination for you? It's not an easy job, and dealing with inconsiderate customers (as you all appear to be) doesn't help. Try to understand that they are DOING THEIR JOB. Would you appreciate it if people were constantly yelling at you because they were dumb enough to sign a contract without reading it first? There's another thing! YOU signed the contract. They did not take your hand and force you to. Perhaps you should read things before you sign them, and you won't end up in these terrible circumstances. I have already, and will again, state that I do not believe in all of their business practices. I think their customer service could use a great deal of attention, and most of their employees could use some sensitivity training, but you're also at fault. Read EVERYTHING, and don't come back and blame your stupidity and laziness on the poor 20-something kid trying to make rent for that month. Customer service involves CUSTOMERS. If you expect good service, give them a reason to offer it. more

ATB = Great Tanning 7/29/2010

At The Beach always have great deals on their tanning lotions. The staff is very helpful in finding something that work good with you. They also recommended a step 3. At first I didn?t think it was a big deal but after trying it I noticed my tan lasts longer, plus my skin feels great. I highly recommend using a step 3 after each time you tan. Thanks ATB Pros: Lotions, Beds, Cool Staff more

A Tanning Scam 9/2/2009

Do not ever sign a contract with these people! They talked me into a $65 contract telling me I could cancel at any time, then when I decided to cancel they told me I would have to pay nearly $300! They do not understand that some of us can't afford to have dark skin in this horrible economy and were not helpful at all. Pros: Average tanning salon Cons: People are scammers more

Military Members Be Careful 8/24/2009

This company claims to have a military clause but they don't. You have to pay a termination fee when you get orders. I think they train their employees to lie about anything and everything to get you to sign up. NOT WORTH IT! Read the reviews on ""ripoffreport"" on the web Cons: They lie to get you to sign up more

Biggest scam artists 7/9/2009

SCAM SCAM SCAM! Please beware. These guys are the biggest scam artists. I have no idea how they get away with it. Anything you sign with them will automatically open a loan application for you which will ruin your credit history. This doesn't happen to just one person, happens to everyone. They will tell you it's a month to month payment, but they are LYING!!! Pros: You will be approved for a loan that will ruin your credit Cons: You can't cancel the loan that ruined your credit more

A great place to get a tan 7/2/2009

I have been tanning with At the Beach on and off for years, even back when they only had 3 locations and were open 24 hours. What I enjoy about tanning there is the great choice of beds and the fact that they offer monthly plans where I can pay one price monthly and tan as much as I like. Pros: Clean Stores, Great Hours, Friendly employees more

HORRIBLE 6/24/2009

this is by far the WOSRT company ever. Everyone is extremely rude and corporate is shady and will scam you for ever penny. DO NOT USE THIS TANNING SALON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: ZERO Cons: EVERYTHING more

DISHONEST Business Practices 4/20/2009

I can't even begin to tell you how dishonest and shady this service is. I went in person to initiate a contract to tan for one month. When I asked the front desk receptionist the terms of the contract she told me I had to cancel my membership before the month was up. I canceled 28 days after my start date and noticed on my credit card statement the next month that they charged me an additional month. When I brought this to their attention they said there was a 5 day processing wait. I did not know to allow an additional five days or I would have canceled earlier. This five day wait put me over the thirty day contract, charging me for another month. When I went to dispute it they claimed it didn't matter what the receptionist who worked there told me that the contract states the conditions of the contract. I guess I'm naive to think that the employees they have at the front desk could be trusted and honest when presenting me with information about the contract. When I called the customer service number they were very rude and even threatened to reactivate the canceled contract if I filed a dispute with my credit card company and if the money was refunded back to me they would debit my credit card again. I was very uncomfortable letting them have access to my credit card and changed my number. I withdrew my dispute so that I could end this terrible ordeal. Pros: BEST Scam Going Cons: Very Dishonest more

Contract issues 8/24/2008

Please read this before signing a contract with this company. I have been having issues with ATB... my 2 year contract with them expired 3/08, however they continued the monthly withdrawls from my bank account. Apparently (though this was not how it was explained to me when i signed up) after your contract is up you are automatically renewed month to month. I tried to contact the corporate office several times regarding the matter without receiving a return call. I went in to the store where i tan and cancelled the month to month tanning... then proceeded to my bank and filled out an unauthorized withrawl affidavit to make sure they did not withdrawl more money. Three days later i recieved 2 letters from Affiliated Acceptance Corporation one stating that i owe $53 and the other stating that i owe $115 - both of these include late fees and return charges... they tried to run the transaction thru twice and claim that i owe $30 for each attempt. Thankfully my husband is an attorney and is taking care of it. If you are having the same issues with this company, please don't hesitate to call the B B B. Pros: Nice equiptment, mostly clean Cons: Unprofessional conduct, Unknowledgable staff more
