Great italian food 10/10/2011

The wife and I love this place. We like being able to sit back, relax and have time to ourselves when we are there. Good food and a nice evening atmosphere. Never had to wait for a table. All I have to do is concentrate on her when im there. more

Best of the Best 10/15/2010

As a native Houstonian who has traveled the world (including New York and Chicago for the yanks who think the only good Italian food can be found there) ... well, Antonio's can hold it's own with the best. Why? Well, one thing is Mr. Antonio came from NY a zilliion years ago and is a perfectionist chef... 2) he hand picks his own produce and meats 3) the cheese vendors can't stand him ... as he he makes and ages his own mozarella on premise... 4) all bread and hand tossed pizza dough made on site and ... get this - no indigestion as he preboils acid out of the tomatoes before adding to homemade sauce. The pizza is awesome as are the pasta dishes ... salads always cold/fresh and not a sprig of imperfect vegetables. Good wine choices at reasonable prices. And if you have kids - well getting a big giant floppin pizza dough thrown on your heads is better than catching a fly ball at an Astros game. Any cons - you may have to wait in line if you get there late ... servers are a little slow at times. As far as the other comments where people said the owners or their daughters were rude ... well - if they were rude you probably deserved it as this family run restaurant is ""well run"" and has a great family ... get to know them! In case you think I am some Italian buddy of the Antonios ,.. I am not ... Scots-Irish/ German and he still greets my grown daughter with ""ciao bella"" and has since she was a little girl. more

Good Food Sorry Service 8/30/2010

I've been going to Antonio's for years because they do have good pizza and food. Unfortunately their service is pathetic. The hostess is rude and comes off as a snob. The owner is also about as bad. They've had many opportunities to prove otherwise but they're always the same - rude and snobby. They never apologize for their (hostess and/or waiter's) mistakes and always make it seem like it's the customer's fault when it's not. I know a few others who have gone there in the past with the same results and many just don't bother to return. more

You gotta love this place! 7/3/2010

I grew up eating home-cooked Italien food. Antonio's is the real deal. Its a cozy, family-style, unpretentious kind of place that feels homey. Antonio's is like coming home to family to me. Bring an appetite, you're gonna need it. Plan to spend some time nursing a glass of wine and enjoying the awesome food. Trust me, you won't be able to make up your mind what to eat. Strike up a conversation with Antonio and listen to his stories of the old days--you might learn a thing or two. While you're at it, check out the new wine room in back. Nice quiet room for a romantic date. His daughter Antonella is the best hostess in Houston and will make you feel right at home. You gotta problem wid dat? :) Make Antonio's your home too. Bring some friends, eat and then eat some more. You won't be disappointed--you'll be stuffed!--but coming back for more! Buon appetito! Pros: so many good things to eat you can't make up your mind! Cons: My stomach is too small more

I wish I could give NO stars 6/11/2010

First, they are rude. Extremely rude. Second, they serve cheap French-style Vietnamese baguettes (available at Vietnamese bakeries for 10/$1) in place of authentic crusty Italian bread. Third, the waiters are CLUELESS and do not know anything about Italian cuisine much less the pronunciation of words. Fourth, a panini at Antonio's is not actually a panini and once again, is served on cheap Vietnamese baguettes. Fifth, their ingredients sit in their freezer for too long. Everything was stale or about to expire. Crab should not be served stale!!! Sixth, no one came to offer dish replacements when we said ""this is not fresh and tastes horrible"". We waited 15 minutes for a manager that never showed. Finally, we just left our uneaten plates on the table and got up to leave. The manager/hostess/owner's daughter finally said ""Oh I was just about to come over"". Then the owner came out and started yelling that we must have bad taste in food and ""Why don't you just let your mother cook for you!"" when all I was doing was trying to give constructive criticism like ""panini's should be made with italian bread, and crab should never be served after having freezer burn"". Also, my friend and I each had one bite of each other's dish before we decided they both dishes were inedible. The owner wanted us to pay for half the meal saying ""you can't just come in here for a free ride"". HORRIBLE experience. Anyone that likes this restaurant has never had good food. It looked like all their patrons were the kinds that don't know how to boil water. Pros: cute little italian diner look Cons: everything else more

Times are a changin' 1/20/2010

The owner was rude along with the hostess. We sat next to the bar. A server made a mistake and we spent the rest of our meal listening to the owner berate the server. My daughter learned some 4 letter words that night. NOT A FAMILY RESTAURANT.....Why give your business to someone that doesn't even care about the comfort of his patrons? The owner and hostess/cashier made our party of 8 feel like they were doing us a favor by coming to eat at this establishment. There are plenty of great places to eat in Houston....cross Antonio's off your list. Pros: History of a good reputation Cons: Poor service, rude owner more

Do Not go in a group 1/15/2010

First time customer and will not return. Hostess very rude and lectured our group. We were clearly not welcome there even if we had called ahead. They will not seat groups or split bills. They would have been happy if we would have walked right back out and not given them any of our business. How can any restaurant afford to turn down paying customers in today's economy and multiple venue choices?!!! They were not busy even during lunch hr. Could that be a sign? Pros: Clean, food fresh Cons: Rude, poor service, not accommodating to groups of 6 + more

38 Years and still the best Pizza in Houston 11/27/2009

for 38 years we have enjoyed Don Antonio and his flying pizza...3 generations of my family have enjoyed this truly authenic Sicilian pizza. Antonio and his family are the best. Pros: best authentic Italian pizza in Houston Cons: ok...so service is less than perfect but who cares more

Best pizza 9/4/2009

I grew up eating pizza at Antonio's. It is awesome. The best in town. The pizza is not cheap but soooo good. I usually get it to go because otherwise you end up with not so great service from a waiter that reminds you of Furio from the Sopranos. Pros: Best pizza Cons: bad service sometimes, expensive more

True Italian 6/9/2009

Being for the NYC/New Haven, CT area, I am beyond spoiled when it comes to pizza. I believe Houston has some of the best food in the U.S., but it was difficult to find good pizza. However, Antonio's Flying pizza was fantastic. Service was excellent and the pizza reminded me of being back in NYC. Being a big fan of pizza I surely breathed a big sigh of relief after going Antonio's. Pros: Pizza and service was excellent more

antonios 3/6/2009

Over priced, decent service, rolls are good but scarce. Salad was great. Eggplant was more egg than plant, not good at all. more

NOT GOOD FOR GROUPS 12/9/2008

I was planning a birthday party to be held at this restaurant for 12 people. When I called to make the reservation, I was informed that they do not seat large parties (more than 8), and that we could come and wait for individual tables to become free if we wanted. They told me that the house would be busy at 6, and that it would be too hard to get a group table. The manager that I spoke with was not very friendly. Cons: bad service, no split checks, groups cannot sit together more

need better service 9/2/2008

Antonios has good food, but their service needs some work. I do not understand why they go on a wait when they have seating areas in the middle and back of the restuarant. They could a least have a bartendar so one could enjoy a beverage whil waiting due to lack of good staff and good management. They should take notes from Carrabba's on Voss. Pros: Good pizza and lasangna Cons: bad service more

Antonio's Flying Prices (pay a lot for mediocre food and no service) 6/14/2008

I am from the northeast so I consider myself familiar with good, New York style pizza. Unfortunately, Antonio's Flying Pizza was only able to capture the unpleasantness of New York city drivers. I took my girlfriend to this ""restaurant"" with the belief that we would at least be served. After a 45 minute wait, we were seated and ordered our drinks and food. (chicken francese, baked clams, and a large cheese pizza). Another 45 minutes later, we noticed the family that was seated after us had already been served. After complaining to our inattentive waiter, the chicken francese and baked clams showed up 15 minutes later without an apology, or an explanation. The pizza was MIA. The clams were mediocre and the chicken was soggy. The prices, however, were high. After complaining again for not receiving the pizza, it showed up with enough grease to lubricate an engine. We will never go back. For better food and prices, go to Romano's on West Gray. Pros: The silverware and dining room appears to be clean Cons: The food, prices, ambience, service, value, pizza more

best pizza in Houston 4/24/2008

I am very picky and eat here all the time . They are always nice and the food is great . The restaurant is clean and nice . Pros: great food and service Cons: not the prettiest place but clean more

Outstanding Pizza, Pasta, and Antipasto 2/19/2008

I am reading some of the negative reviews and cannot believe it. I have eaten at Antonios probably 50 times and have never eaten a bad meal. If you are looking for fast, cheap food, then go eat drive thru junk. Antonios is fresh ingredients that take time to prepare. I never understand these people who go to restaurants and want everything ""fast"". What is the deal with that? Go eat fast food if you want your food in five minutes for under $5. The pizza, antipasto, pesto, and meatballs are some of the best around. Do not be discouraged by bad reviews - THIS PLACE IS LEGIT. Pros: Authentic Italian food actually made by Italians! Cons: None really, other than they are closed Sun & Mon, but the family needs time off more

Very Rude manager! 2/8/2008

Hi All, Cons: aweful food, Rude manager more

Almost as good as a pizza pocket 11/24/2007

We drove out to Antonio's Flying Pizza because of the positive reviews here on citysearch. These reviews that claim anything good about the pizza must have been written by the owner's. The pizza is garbage. There is nothing special about this pizza that you couldn't get out of a frozen pizza pocket. Honestly, it may not be the worst pizza I've ever had, but it certainly comes close. Very uninspiring! I wasn't even upset that the couple that came after us were well into their salad before we even got our water, because I was hopeful that the pizza would be good. I didn't care that the hostess was unfriendly. Maybe she was having a bad night. Maybe her goldfish died...who knows? I didn't care, I was very hopeful of the pizza. So disappointing! Please don't go here for pizza unless all of the other pizza joints in town have been closed due to the strongarm of Antonio's mofia hitmen - weird, insider vibe in there. This place is terrible! more

Above Average Pizza 9/18/2007

On a Tuesday evening, the hostess immediately led me to a table without a reservation. The waiter arrived promptly to take my order. The menu was more extensive than I expected, so I asked for additional time to peruse their selections. Although this casual booth-lined restaurant advertises itself as a pizza specialist, ninety percent of the menu consists of various Italian delights. I was in the mood for pizza when the waiter returned several minutes later, so I ordered a large pizza with pepperoni, black olives, and bell peppers. Perhaps he took my menu a little too quickly without asking if I wanted an appetizer--a minor issue indeed. The pizza arrived within what seemed like 10-15 minutes and it was certainly above average. The chef did an excellent job of re-creating what one would expect to be served in an Italian cafe'. Perhaps it would have been amazing if I had been in a different mood on a different night. While I would recommend New York Pizza if you are around downtown, Antonio's is an excellent choice if you are in the Galleria/Chimney Rock area. You can't miss the large neon sign in front. Pros: Food, Service, Cons: Location, Neighborhood, more

Owner Message
  • Welcome to Antonio's.
Our food is cooked to order. It takes a little longer and tastes a lot better, so please be patient.

Italian cooks have long been masters of the kitchen, creating culinary perfections that tempt the eye and please the palate. They embellish an ordinary meal with such drama and flourish that it becomes a masterpiece.

One of the most outstanding characteristics of Italian cooks is their high regard for the food itself. Each tomato, cheese, and cut of meat or portion of seafood is savored for its own merit. Ingredients are often purchased daily to maintain the freshness they demand.

Antonio brought with him to Houston many years of experience in Italian cooking. All the pride and care that is typical of this Mediterranean country is evident in each delightful dish that you will enjoy at Antonio's Ristorante Italiano.

    Serving in Houston since 1971.
