I like Italian food as much as the next person. Who doesn't love lasagna or penne vodka? Andrea's takes it...

Proud of Chef here for 25 years 6/26/2010

Chef Andreas has made a great niche in our hearts and minds and just near the 25 mile bridge that takes us to the country. He parks a three or four tier pastry cart in an area just after the entrance foyer. They are colorful and mouthwatering. His bar is located perfectly because you can see the dining room. The walls of it are loaded with luminous gold frames that surround dramatic oils and lively impressionistic pieces. The conversations in the room are accented with decrescendos and staccato sounds like allegro piano pieces. His cooking aromas waft into the room and may send you walking just as a flute will call a reptile from a basket. He doesn't have cooked reptiles on the menu though. more

Overrated with lazy service. 5/15/2008

As a nativeof New Orleans, I'm proud to say that New Orleans food is the best food to eat anywhere in the Southern U.S. I've moved to Atlanta in 2004 and I've tried many restaurants in Atlanta and various big metro cites in the U.S. I find that New Orleans still has the best flavor and the best deals on seafood. I've never written a review for a restaurant until today because of the mediocore experience I've had at Andrea's on Mother's Day evening. Out party consisted of 12 people, my family and my wife's family, therefore it was easy for me to try various dishes becauses we are all comfortable with sharing our meals. We arrived in the evening and there was no crowd therefore I assumed that we wil be well taken cared of. However , I found it very annoying that our water was never re-filled. We all selected the 3-course meals: soup & salad, entree, and dessert. The soup provided was shrimp bisque and cheese filled raviloi with basil sauce. The shrimp bisque tasted like the bottom of the pan of a crawfish boil however the ravioli was great. The salad was drenched in dressing. The entrees that were ordered in my party were veal, trout, salmon, duck, and steak. The veal was bland. The trout had great texture, sweet and light. The flavor was perfect and not overpowering. The salmon was overcooked and lost its natural moisture. The duck had good flavoring but was dry also. I cannot comment on steak because I'm not a steak person but I did notice that the guest who ordered it did not finish his steak. All of the desserts provided that evening was good. The main waiter provided great service, detailed description and geniune personality. The helper however was slow and unattentative. Do not go there and expect above average food. If you ever find youself there at a dinner party I only recommend the trout and stay away from the bisque. more

Lazy service, mediocre food 3/28/2008

We made the mistake of dining at Andreas on Thanksgiving a few years ago. My main complaint about it was that even though it seemed that plenty of waitstaff was at hand (the place wasn't all that crowded) NOBODY hardly came back to the table to refill drinks etc. The food was mediocre at best. It didn't seem hot enough to me (it was probably sitting in the back for awhile before being brought to the table). The service was slow and disappointing. After getting the bill I was overcharged and the overcharge wasn't removed until I had to show the advertisement they had placed in the paper. Afterwards both my husband and mother was sick the next day with severe stomach cramps and chills. They had the oyster dressing whereas I did not. more

real good experience 10/23/2007

We wanted to go to Andrea's for a long time and we always forget to do it. After trying Andrea's we feel a little ashamed that we delayed this dinner. From the cocktails at the bar to the appetizers, entrees and dessert everything was delicious. It was Saturday night and the place was relaxed and not noisy at all. We felt welcomed and overall very satisfied. more

GREAT OVERALL 10/17/2007

I took my wife here to get away from the kids one weekend. We made reservations however I do not think that we needed them. I had the Seafood Portofino which was an excellent value, my wife had fired calamari, both were great. For our entree I had the trout a la bayou lafourche which was very fresh and cooked to perfection, my wife had the Crabmeat Raviolli which was made with fresh pasta, she didn't go crazy over it but I thought it was good. For desert I had the Cheesecake which was made from scratch and quite heavy but good and my wife had the bread pudding which was not even close to best i've ever had. Service was great, the Chef cam out to visit our table and introduce himself. Out total Bill was $110 with no alcohol, we do not drink, including tip which I thought was very reasonable. service was excellent 10/11/2007

The wine list appeals to every person. The red snapper crazywater is my favorite dish. When Chef Andrea says the fish come swimming to his door, he really means it. The pasta is fresh & the ambiance is very romantic. I would have to say Andrea's is my favorite restaurant in the city. I also hosted a private dinner for family & friends. I highly reccomend the banquet facilities to everyone. Pros: Chef Andrea Cons: Are none Good all the time more

Avoid Andrea's 1/14/2006

My dining experience at Andrea's was terrible! When the waitstaff finally showed up, they were not very polite. The food took forever to come out, when it did, it was cold, and further more, I kid you not, tasted like it had SAND in it. It was absolutely one the worst restaurant experiences I've had in New Orleans, and it's a crime to spend money at Andrea's (particularly post-Katrina dollars) when there are other much better Italian restaurants(like Vincent's, for example). I highly recommend going somewhere else. Pros: Location Cons: Cold food, Poor service more

Andreas Italian Restaurant 8/24/2005

If your in the mood for a really good Italian meal, Andreas is an excellent choice. Chef Andrea will make his way around the dining room to introduce himself before your meal is complete. This restaurant is perfect for an after work meal. There are seperate rooms, so you can enjoy a quiet meal in a private setting, or enter the piano bar. You can enjoy some lively entertainment while dining. more

Best Loved Restaurant????? 5/25/2005

I took my sister who was from out of town to Andrea's for lunch. The place was so stuffy like grandma's closet. Everyone in there was over 50 wearing suits and ties. The service was slow and astonishingly horrid. The food was average....I'm being generous here. My pasta was too salty and my sister's pasta was more like a soup. We left feeling like we were robbed in daylight. I was so embarrassed to take her there. I kept bragging how wonderful the restaurants in New Orleans were. Word to the masses.....I would recommend Irene's and 1179 for good Italian food and friendly down to earth service. Pros: no wait, bread Cons: bad service , bad ambience, snooty service more
