Worst

Kinda sad...Spent a long time getting an uneven cut. Many new stylists...mine was nervous not confident...I left dissappointed.... didn't do what I wanted :( spent $45.00

NATURAL HAIR COLOR - AMAZING CUT 11/19/2008

Emilio is the BEST! I moved here from Chicago and was used to having my hair done by a salon owner on Oak Street. The thought of finding a new hairdresser made me cringe. Emilio had me from the first cut! I've been going to him for three years, and never a bad cut. If I ask him to do something, then decide I don't like it, he's great about having me come back in for adjustments to my cut. HAIR COLOR is a huge deal for me. I have issues with my immune system and am pleased that the salon uses more natural hair coloring products. Emilio's highlights are my favorite ever, and I can feel good about the product. I have Aubrey do my eyebrows, and she is also my fav. I tried three different people Todd's Room, and Aubrey's arch blew them away. Pros: Natural hair color, skilled cuts, fun atmosphere Cons: I usually find street parking w/n a block, garage is 1.5 blocks away. Pricey, but not outrageous and worth it. more

Best Hairdressers 8/20/2008

As seasons change and my desires for warm Auburn in the Fall, Dark Coffee Brown in the Winter, and ""Giselle Buncheon"" like Golden Blonde in the Summer...my hair has stayed strong and healthy through all my style changes. This is not due to the natural resistance of my own hair. I owe my consistently great color and style to my ever creative and patient stylist Dave ""Mojo"". No matter what I want he makes it happen, and somehow without damaging my hair. He is also extremeley attentive and sweet and goes out of his way to make me feel amazing and comfortable. For the best color and style, go see Dave ""Mojo"" at Alex and Emilio Salon. Since Ive gone to him I have MADE all of my friends switch hairdressers and they have not stoppped thanking me. Love it! 8/13/2008

I see Ixchel and LOVE her. I have tried quite a few salons in the area - Heidi's(back in the day), Aqua, Tricho, etc. Anyway, Ixchel handles my horribly curly out of control hair with ease and she is the ONLY person I know who can 1. straigten it beautifully 2. cut layers that actually look and fall amazing whether my hair is styled curly or straight. I fly 500 miles to go to this salon 6/26/2008

JENNY is the greatest! I had to laugh when I read a previous post about a girl who moved to Washington, D.C. and flies home to see her family AND Jenny every time she needs her hair done- because I DO TOO! I have been living in D.C. for 10 months and have flown back (it'll be 3 times next week) to have her do my hair. It is worth the $150 flight and $125 to get my hair done by someone I trust as much as Jenny. I have been seeing her for 4 years and no one can cut, color, and style quite like her. If you're sensitive, maybe Jenny isn't for you. She is blunt and honest (she'll tell you if something looks bad). But you're also seeing a ""shear genius."" Take her advice!! Loving my hair right now 6/25/2008

After reading some of the reviews on Citysearch, I decided to book an app. with Jenny (I thought it was really cool that she had been in Allure, not gonna lie). I had been to Alex Emilio's before and liked their work (and their manicurist), but I had been living in Ann Arbor and it was just too far. Also, I like trying different salons (I have been to Bashar, Bitonti, Aqua, etc.) After moving to R.O., I was just down the street. Why go all the way to Birmingham when a great salon is a mile away? Pros: Cool hair. Cons: Salon vibe seemed a little off. more

Lyndsey is so great at her job!!!!!!!!!! I have been going to her for the last 7 years, and i couldn't imagine going to anyone else! Even if i 'm unsure about what to do with my hair she always comes up with an idea! And i always walk out feeling great, and i totally love john he is so easygoing and he gives a great head massage!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't forget about katie she is so up beat and cheerful all the time, she has a great eye for hair! Everyone at AlexEmilio is very friendly and it's a great atmosphere!!! Amazing! 5/22/2008

Moved back to Michigan and went to Alex Emilio based on a recommendation. Left grinning ear to ear! I even accidentally showed up to my appointment early and the staff was really cool about it. Met with Roman and told him to do whatever he wanted. Left with a great color, great cut. I will definitely go back. Cut and color was under $100 but did add up with tips. If you're searching for the BEST salon, here it is! 5/17/2008

As hard as it is to find superstar stylists in this town, regardless of price, imagine my ecstasy when I found several at AlexEmilio! I've been searching for what seemed like forever, and really believed I would never find anyone creative and talented this side of New York. At AlexEmilio, there are several fabulous options: Emilio, who does cutting edge, yet head turning feminine hair. His work is incredible whether your hair is curly or straight, blonde, brunette or redhead. They all turn out beautiful! Lyndsey and Jenny are rising young stars who clearly enjoy making their clients look knockout. Lyndsey does beautiful color too. I also love Natazzia, Greg and Alex. Jenny was also featured in Allure magazine, where she was recognized for her gorgeous haircuts. Pros: Everything about the salon Cons: The meter maids of Royal Oak- watch that meter!! more

I Love Alex Emilio Salon! 5/15/2008

I've lived in New York City and LA and have tried many, many salons. When I moved here I had random luck with other salons. I went to Alex Emilio on a recommendation. Dave is certified to do a smoothing treatment that has transformed my hair. I had him do the cut and color and it's fabulous. The entire staff is friendly and interested in learning new things, and the atmosphere is very cool. I won't go anywhere else! Pros: Great stylists, friendly atmosphere more

Ixhchel is SO FABULOUS! I have very curly difficult hair, and have a tough time finding a hair stylist who can actually give me a great cut and style. I cannot say enough great things about Ixchel. She made me feel soooo great - my hair was so bouncy and cute and stayed that way through rainy snow- which NEVER happens. I absolutely LOVE the cut she gave me as well - this girl is a genious. She's also very sweet! I just made my 2nd appointment and would reccomend her to everyone! P.S. it's a bit expensive, but worth every penny. more

I have been trying to find a good hairstylist that understands my long hair style since I moved back to Michigan. I tried a salon recommended to me, but had no luck. The hair stylist did an ?ok? cut, but my hair style seemed to disappear after two weeks?it just didn?t grow out well and ended up looking ?blah?. Unhappy customer 4/17/2008

My experience with Jenny was bad too. She refused to honor my wishes with the cut or color. She chopped the hell out of my hair and over-processed it. Then, she couldn?t even style my hair. Instead, she left it stringy and straight, then told me how cute SHE thought it looked! Unfortunately I paid high salon prices for this mess and it will be over year before I can have a good hair day. Pros: Beautiful salon Cons: Didn't get what I wanted more

Hair Danger! 2/22/2008

I am of the firm belief that a salon should never be judged of its quality based on its price. I paid about $300 for a cut and color--low lights and high lights with an overall color wash. My hair was so badly stripped of its nutrients that no amount of salvage could be done--I had to wait six months for the damage to grow out. For color, seek higher ground. The stylists here are not trained well in color chemistry. Pros: Cut was decent Cons: Terrible color job, snobby atmosphere more

Everytime I get my hair dyed by Alex, I get a complement. He listens to what you want, and the results are perfect. I've been going to Alex for about 7 years now and my entire family goes to him now. Only salon I trust; anywhere! 7/25/2007

When it comes to my hair, I am exremely picky. After every haircut I have ever had, before coming to Alex Emilio's salon, I have always gone home and fixed up the cut immediately. This salon is fantastic. JENNY is the best stylist I have ever had, by far and away. If you have an idea in mind for your haircut, she'll match it. If you don't come in with any ideas, she immediately knows what will work for you, which is very reassuring, as she knows exactly what she's doing. I moved to Washington DC and have not found a place here I trust. I come back to visit family in Michigan (Ann Arbor), and will wait to have my haircut until I come back, so I can get it cut with Jenny. Whether its every two months, or six months, it is completely worth the wait. Although I swear by Jenny, I have seen the work of other stylists and there are bunches of extremely talented ones, so don't worry if Jenny is booked. more

THIS SALON IS NOT RECOMMENDED 7/21/2007

At a salon, people need to be happy with the ""experience"" just as much as the haircut. I saw Emilio, and as an Owner, he should know that clients are there, not only to have their hair done, but also to feel attended to, and feel like they're the center of attention. I was definitely made to feel like I was ""crashing Emilio's party"" when I was there, and no matter how casual the look and attitude of the customer, they should always be treated politely and with respect - Emilio definitely doesn't know this or had forgotten when I had my appointment with him. Needless to say, if an Owner is behaving this way, he's not setting the best example for the other stylists... Pros: NOTHING Cons: EVERYTHING more
