VERY PLEASED 6/8/2011

I have been a customer of AlexBell for at least 10-12 years, to treat my 2 dogs and 4 cats. I have never encountered any rude office staff as long as I've been going there. There has been a turn-over, but that is to be expected for that type of position. There was once a questionable Vet (NOT Dr. Diehl) whom I didn't feel comfortable with her diagnoses for my dog, but when I told the office staff about it, they quickly referred me to another vet on staff, Dr. Ellis. I found this Vet to be extremely compassionate and loving toward my animals. She also understands the stress of an "animal parent". I can't say enough good things about her. As far as Dr. Diehl goes, the only experience I've had with him directly, is that while I was at an animal hospital in Columbus, ready to give my dog to them for surgery, I called AlexBell for advice. I forgot that Dr Ellis was out of town, so the staff immediately got Dr. Diehl for me. Even though he hadn't treated my dog personnally, he was v more

Wanna get bilked ? Come here. 3/9/2010

I was a client here 5 years. Everything was fine until my 2 year old cat got sick and every visit was a litany of expensive tests. After about 6 months of this (and over $2000 later) with no medication seemingly to work for my cat, they told me the only option was to put her to sleep. As a last resort, I went to a different clinic for a 2nd opinion. After simply describing the symptoms to this new vet, my cat got the RIGHT medication and the cost there doesn't even come close to what I was charged at Alex Bell. If I hadn't gone elsewhere, I wouldn't have know how crazy expensive this place is, as well as how much I was being bilked with all the unnecessary tests. What a ripoff ! Don't bother to question the items on the bill or they'll talk down to you. more

NEVER TAKE YOUR CAT HERE!!! 6/8/2009

I took my Mane-Coon in for a lion cut and shampoo. I realize there aren't many places that will groom cats, but they did a terrible job. My cat looks all hacked up. The cut is choppy and uneven. The groomers cut his mane off, after I explicitly told them not to. When I went to pick up my cat, he had chunks of hair all over him. I question if they even bathed him at all! I am very dissatisfied with this clinic and their grooming services. Never take your cat here!!! more

False Negatives 5/16/2009

Alex Bell vet clinic is a great place! I have seen the inner workings of this place, the staff who lovingly care for the pets, The kennel workers who love to spend quality time with the animals and even give them extra walks sometimes that the client never gets charged for! The keep the animals on a regular schedule with walks and medications. The kennels where the dogs are housed are cleaned and disinfected twice a day. All you have to do is ask and they will gladly take you back to see the kennel area and they love to see owners who want to come visit their pet while it is staying at their facility! The staff is very friendly and the owner is very easy going and eager to help anyone in any situation. You will always have some previous clients or employees who have nothing good to say about a place, but it truly is a great place offering very individualized personal care to each client and patient! more

Confused? 12/19/2008

Which basic claim was false exactly? You neglect to mention that fact. Of course he returned your call and denied the rumors. The below reports actually never claim that the doctor is inaccessible..."Investigating" is when you actually go into the environment and see for yourself what is going on...not making a phone call. Perhaps all the negative publicity has forced the clinic to change their ways. Let's hope that's what happened. more

Negative Reviews at Least Partially Inaccurate 12/16/2008

I had an encounter with Alex Bell Clinic while rescuing a puppy whose leg had been broken. Then, I heard a rumor that this clinic was up to all of the no good that one reviewer (who has obviously written multiple reviews, as if she was several people. . .the voice and wording are identical from one of her reviews to the next) accuses them of.\r \r As a rescuer, I felt obligated to investigate these claims myself, and I can tell you that one of her most basic accusations is absolutely false, leading me to believe the rest of her story to be highly suspect.\r \r This vet who is so inaccessible called me back within an hour of my phone call expressing concern over these rumors. Dr. Diehl and I spoke for nearly two hours, and I believe his story to be the more accurate one. The rescue stories he told not only sounded entirely genuine, but a worker who is also a rescuer substantiated his claims. She has been employed there for over a year.\r \r Please observe carefully, do your own research and d more

Listen to what you are told 9/30/2008

The negative reviews are accurate. The people that work there are unhappy not because of the "standards" that are placed upon them but because of the hypocracy that occurs. You may think that you can try to contact the owner at any time night or day - try it and see how successful you are. Drive by and see if there are dogs being walked in the fenced in area. See if your boarded dog smells like it was just bathed, even if you didn't pay for a bath. If you are a long time client, look at the turn around that has occured in staff. You may talk to the owner and be reassurred that all is well but it is not. Listen to what you are told, and see if it agrees with what is done. All the reviews that were written in a "negative" fashion are true from my experiences with this clinic. This clinic may work for you, but don't just dismiss the negative reviews as being due to disgruntaled employees - they are not. more

No ulterior motives, just looking out for the pets! 6/30/2008

I have no ulterior motives for warning people about the (lack of) care presented by this clinic, nor am I a "young kid" who doesn't know any better. I am an experienced veterinary professional, who prides myself on remaining ethical and compassionate. I know of at least 5 other veterinary professionals who would give you the same story about Alex Bell. Just because a former employee speaks out about a business does not mean they are up to something....the employees know better than anyone what is going on at a business!!! You don't get fired from Alex Bell...you quit, and are a bit disillusioned from the experience.\r http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/22 /ripoff0228127.htm\r Every word is true! Trust your pets with another veterinarian in this area! They are plenty to choose from! more

There is some validity to the concern with Alex-Bell Vet 6/29/2008

I too have taken my pets there, and have spent a pretty penny for it (not that I wouldn't have at other vets locally, as well)! I also noticed a huge turnover in staff, as well as next to never seeing dogs outside of the vet. It does make you wonder if the kenneled dogs are being toileted and walked, and I frequently pass the facility. Odd. And, yes, it is a business, just as healthcare is, but, pets are living beings as are we, and the bottom dollar isn't the bottom line. If you work in healthcare or pet care, you have the responsibility of doing what is right, whether you are well reimbursed or not. I have also wondered about the quality of vet care from some of the vets at Alex-Bell. I'm not sure if the facility employees experienced vets or new graduates, but, this may also be something experienced at various vet facilities. I have purchased food there, none of which appeared bad. Not sure about the owner's character, except to say that he did make time to see my pet at the last minute one afternoon, when we had not been scheduled. I have not seen the kennels, so, I would hope he is not involved in breeding or kenneling dogs without concern for their psychological wellbeing. I think everyone should be entilted to see the area their dog or cat will be kept while kenneled, after all, pets are our family members for most of us. I have heard good things about Suburban Vet Clinic and Airway Animal Clinic, if Alex-Bell is questionable for anyone out there. The wait at Airway can be extremely long, though, and the cost at Suburban can be as considerable as Alex-Bell. If your gut feeling tells you something is not right at a facility, LISTEN TO IT! And, if your pet seems particularly unhappy or nervous at the vet each time, but hasn't at other vets, RED FLAG! more

Employees reflect the practice 6/17/2008

Not everyone will agree with a review. There is more than one side to the story. However, the turn around of staff should be an indication of how the employees are treated. There is a posting on another site that is quite accurate as to how unhappy employees are made to feel. Happy employees stay- no matter the pay, because they believe in the clinic. There is more going on behind the scenes in most clinics than is presented to the clients. This place is no exception as evident by the other reviews. Nothing is all good or bad, but this clinic is not as good as the owner would have you think. Many things that are outdated and dangerous in a time when medicine has advanced quite a bit. If you are happy with the services, terrific, but don't think that what you are reading is any less true because it came from someone that use to work there. more

Current client at Alex-Bell 6/12/2008

One always has to wonder what the ulterior motives are for former employees and how much they stretch the truth...most of them are young kids that don't realize that this IS a business and needs to be operated as such. If clinics didn't charge for services they would go out of business and those ""former"" employees wouldn't have a job to begin with.\r I have known the owner for about 15 years and have nothing but respect for him and how he has treated my animals. He and his staff have always treated my animals with care and concern. \r As far as the person that said the animals don't get to go out, I have come in to pick up my pets and have seen both of them out in the yard area having a wonderful time. Yes, they vets don't always remember their names but who could if you were seeing hundreds of animals a week? The folks and their pets that have been coming in for a longer period of time, they remember. \r If they were as awful as some of these people have said I don't believe my pets would have lived (8 and counting) to be well over 10 years of age- one even made it to 19. \r I have known many other veterinarians that are really bad (downright scary in fact) from this area and none of them have been at Alex-Bell!\r more

Terrible, Terrible, Terrible 1/19/2008

This vet constantly overcharged me and even put products on my bill without asking me. The staff was rude and the regular vets I saw were the same. The only caring person there was a vet who was there on a part time basis. I requested her for future visits but was unable to have that arrangement. After the last overcharge, I wrote a letter to them with the intent to follow up with the BBB. I did not follow up with the BBB because I thought my efforts would be better applied to finding a qualified, competent, friendly staff to take care of our dog. If you are doing the same, check out Far Hills Animal Clinic. They are just around the corner on 48 and unbelievable. They are a family (Father/Son/Daughter) who are all incredibly caring and thorough. Their # is 434-8224. I don't know about their boarding because we refuse to board our dog but they are excellent vets. Thank you to the other reviewers for confirming how horrible Alex-Bell Veterinary Clinic really is. Hopefully the more

A WONDERFUL Veterinary Clini 12/9/2007

I have read the other reviews here; and honestly I do not agree with them. I have been a customer of this wonderful clinic for over 13 years. In that time I have had 3 dogs who have received vet care, surgery, boarding and grooming services. Prior to that my mother and my sister have both brought their dog and cat to the clinic. Like any organization that provides a service, there are good days and bad. The staff of a vet clinic if faced consoling customers who face grief through loss of their loved ones. While I was always close to my doctor at the clinic (she was simply tremendous in showing attention and detail when examining or taking care of my miniature schnauzer) nothing was more heart wrenching for me when having to say goodbye to him after he turned 15 years of age due to liver problems. I can tell you, I was mess. I could not even face coming inside. I sat in the parking lot crying, and called the clinic staff on my cell phone. They came out to the parking lot and ass more

Awful place 8/22/2007

Having just moved to the area and needing boarding for 3 weeks, my parents recommended me this place as they had used this vet for our family dog 20 years ago. Apparently, there are new owners and I hope this review is helpful to all new people looking for a quality vet. First and foremost, in regards to boarding, a red light should have gone off in my head because they would not let you see the kennell area, nor visit the dog if boarding for a long time like we did. I found out after the fact that the dog kennell has NO outside run. There is a fenced in walking area out back but the Vets, and all of them at this clinic are not state licensed DVM, doesn't want them walked because "it ruins the yard." When I picked up my dog after 3 weeks, they didn't even know his name! Now, I am questioning whether he got any attention, any food, or even had his cage cleaned out. What a awful place, and just ask around as I did after the fact. They have a terrible reputation. more

Beware! 4/18/2007

Live Insects in Feline Prescription Food Ignored by Manufacturer and Alex-Bell Veterinary Clinic in Ohio: \r \r To make a very long and unpleasant experience short: we bought several bags of feline prescription dry food from Alex-Bell Veterinary Clinic, containing live insects, identified as ?drugstore beetles? by the manufacturer. \r \r Brand new bags opened at the Alex-Bell Veterinary Clinic, in front of the owner and other witnesses, contained live insects (not to mention several other bags we purchased before and after). \r \r The owner has not helped in investigating, explaining or resolving the problem. On the very contrary: he won?t talk or see us. I was not surprised to find several other complaints online. The manufacturer was not helpful at all either and showed no real interest in investigating the matter. \r \r Needless to say, our cat is now seeing a different vet and eating a different brand of food too. more

Excellent quality care! 12/23/2005

The staff at Alex Bell is extremely caring and friendly. Our dogs love the people there and are not TOO unhappy about their yearly vet visits. The staff is so loving and seem so happy to see them, the pups forget why they're scared. I highly recommend this clinic! more
