I had a plumbing problem that needed quick attention. I called A-1 and they responded in a timely manner which was a big plus!! The team that performed the work (Jeff and Randy) were friendly, courteous and even more importantly, they knew how to tackle the job. I would not hesitate to use this company again in the future. In an area the size of Virginia Beach with so many companies, I was glad to find one that I can rely on when there is a need. more

I had a problem with my household plumbing late on a Sunday evening and made a call to a couple of different companies. the first company that I called could not come until the next morning and I could not wait as we did not have a working toilet or shower. A-1 was able to come within a hour and a half. \r John and Larry, the two plumbers, were professional, courteous and polite. They quickly diagnosed the problem and proceeded to do the repair. The work was well done but I felt a little pricey, but it was a Sunday evening and I needed it done that night. Overall the quality of work was very good and they were very careful about the yard and house as far as keeping things clean and tidy. I am pleased with their work. George W Fay more

When I had a sewer drain clog up on a wet, nasty night, A-1 was the only one I could get to come out on short notice. Larry and John showed up after finishing another job in the time frame they told me they would and worked diligently in the rain and wind for about two hours to get the drain cleared. They were friendly, knowledgeable worked well together. I was very pleased with the response and the work. I would recommend A-1 American to anyone. \r Richard Anderson more

I have been a resident of VA Beach for 50 years, over the years I have received service from several other plumbers. A-1 was called to service a deep well water pump. The pump was cycling and I assumed it would probably require the replacement of the regulator. Larry and John responded to the call promptly and presented a pleasant professional\r demeaner. I was pleasantly surprised when the trouble was diagnosed as a stopped up line. The line was cleared, the regulator and pump checked all at a reasonable charge. I would feel very confident in recommending A-1's service for all my needs. more

James deserves full credit for this sale. I called for a heat pump repair that would have costed me approximately $3000. He sold me a new Goodman system with duct work that costed me a bit more than $9000. James explained the entire function of our home cooling system in terms and analogies that I could understand. He sold me a ""smaller"" heat pump than the Carrier unit we replaced, but he went through the life cycle of a heat pump; the systemic relationships of the pump, airflow, and duct work (no sense having a 3 ton unit if you have a leaky duct work designed to channel the flow through a 2-ton unit). He gave me the tonnage, cubic volumes, and square feet in a way that helped me create a blueprint in my head. I've paid you a lot more than I paid the company that sold me the Carrier unit 8 years ago, but I'm confident that I have a better system. Without James' careful presentation and patient explanation, I would have gone with a short term solution to save money. more

I called A-1 on Tuesday morning. James sold me the system on Tuesday afternoon. He started work early on Wednesday and worked alone until dark to bring us online. There was a glitch that caused him a lengthy delay, but he did not make us pay for it with another hot, sleepless night by his quitting early. Wednesday was cooler than Tuesday when James spent perhaps 30 minutes in our 140 degree attic examining the blower and duct work. Nevertheless, it was hard, hot work and he was working alone up and down a ladder into the attic. It goes without saying that there was no cussing, complaining, hammer-throwing, banging, excuse making, self-justification, tomfoolery or wasted time. On Thursday he returned with a crew and finished the job. The men worked well as a team. more

We've decreased the size of our heat pump, but I can already feel more cool air coming out of the duct vents on the far side of the house than I've ever felt. That is because James analyzed the problem, and offered a systemic solution that cools my house better and will save money month-to-month in the long run. He didn't sell is a bigger heat pump; he sold us a better, more suitable system. And I don't mean he sold me like some fast-talking high-binder, it was a soft, thoughtful approach that considered what I really needed and matched that with the products and services that their company could provide and guarantee. I am very impressed 4/9/2015

My husband and I live with my mom in the older home. We had serious clog in the system and Fernando and his team mate Philip arrived within a few hours of our distress call. It was clearly a busy day for them and yet they were so pleasant and professional going straight to work on the issue. Fernando listened patiently to our description of the situation and our problem was resolved within an hour. We are so impressed with A - 1 American and the professionals who represent this company. I would recommend A - 1 to anyone with a problem and we will definitely call and request Fernando's expertise if we have any other issues. more

We returned from a trip and turned off our water before we left. We turned it on when we returned and had a terrible water problem in the garage. We turned it back off and had to wait till morning to deal with it. A-1 American had a magnet on the cover of the phone book, so we called them. We dealt with a gentleman, Gregg, who was so understanding. He sent a repair man, who dealt with the problem and within a short time we had water. Also, we were treated very fairly cost wise - like a familiar customer. We recommend A-1 American 100%. more

A Good Choice 3/23/2015

Last Thursday, March 19, I was looking forward to finally having the time and cooperative weather to begin to clear out my garden for spring planting. Unfortunately, I discovered a broken\r pipe on the outside faucet which presented the need for me to call a plumber. After calling one business, who could not come until late the next day, I called A-1 American because I remembered seeing their advistisement on TV. The person who took my call promised that someone would respond within the hour and that is exactly what happened.\r A friendly and nice man named Ron came and resolved the issue of my broken pipe to my complete satisfaction. His 1st solution was not exactly as I wanted it so he took the extra effort to complete the job to my requests. I was very pleased with the service I received from A-1. more

Plumbing Backup 3/23/2015

Great service, had a main line backup late at night while 8 months pregnant. A-1 techs arranged same night service so the hazourdous sewage smell and repairs could be completed. \r \r Glad to have it all done so promptly. more

Great first experience 3/6/2015

My first experience with A-1 American was with compete sanctification in 2008 when they installed a new gas furnace is my house. I did not hesitate to call A-1 to replace my central air conditioner in May of this year. This, like the furnace, was installed by professional and courteous technicians and both systems have run perfectly ever since. I highly recommend A-1 American for my HVAC work required. more

I live in Norfolk and have issues with roots from the trees growing into the pipes. I needed a plumber as soon as possible and my previous plumber was not available for a few days. I called A-1 American Services because I have seen them advertise on t.v. and noticed their huge advertisement in the yellow pages.
