Make the trip, you wont regret it 1/2/2012

I have always taken my son to Supercuts primarily because he has a short hair style, that is where I go, and of course it is inexpensive. However he is older now, and his hair had been butchered by allowing his teammates to cut it while away at school. So while we were in Santa Monica we decided to get his hair fixed by a professional and stopped in at Salon Vivace. An attractive young lady with fashionable boots greeted us and suggested Amad to cut my sons hair. We spoke with him and were immediately put at ease that he would do a good job and fix my sons hair. He did a light wash, pulled out a kit of multiple scissors and other instruments of the trade, and got to work. He was very personable and took his time, all the while speaking to us like people, not just a customer. Amad stuck us as a perfectionist because just when he seemed finished, he went back to adjust/cut something else. Considering how messed up my sons hair was, I suspect he wanted to undo every bit of damage and kept finding things to fix even after his initial cut. My son was very pleased with the final result, as was I. Amad combined professionalism with a personality that made us both happy we walked into his salon. If we had more time I would have allowed him to cut my hair as well. Pros: null Cons: null more

Love this place!! 7/20/2011

Stylist gave me EXACTLY what I asked for: A trim (for a pretty complex hairstye). But just 3 hours later, she took me back in to cut it a bit shorter (which it turns out was what I *actually* wanted!) and she didn't charge me a penny (after spending over an hour washing, cutting and styling for a second time). Andrea's her name and she IS the bomb! :D more

Dea'na is one of the owners of this wonderful shop. She gave me one look and knew what she wanted to do. Her creative thinking to give you a look thats fits you is amazing. I love the atmosphere that the place has, and the service is over the top. Pros: excellent costumer service more

Go to Jen Leong for an amazing haircut/color! 2/10/2009

Jennifer Leong, one of the co-owners, is AMAZING!! She spent at least 15 minutes talking with me to figure out exactly what style I wanted, gave me several options and talked me through the whole cutting/styling experience. I've gone back several times and have been absolutely thrilled with her work! Highly recommend for a cut/color!!! Pros: Customer Service, Skill more

sophisticated quiet yummy organic/aqualculture 7/13/2008

i would highly recommend this place for one that is looking for a romantic, fresh and friendly night.\r the food was exquisite. the staff was super nice. the place was beautiful. i recommend the branzino and sablefish. ooh and the banana bread pudding was yummy. winelist was also good. also, it was refreshing to find a quiet restaurant on the west side.\r \r \r Pros: organic fresh food Cons: a little expensive more

Solid Santa Monica dinner spot 6/20/2008

I went here with some friends of mine who live nearby. I'm happy to say we had a very nice dinner, despite my hearing mixed reviews previously. The standouts of the evening were Kampachi served on Himalayan salt, pork cheek, sablefish with maple syrup and sake (it sounds strange but it really works) and steak frites. We brought our own wine, but I did thumb through the wine list - it is excellent. We ended with the fabulous blueberry pie, and yes, it is the chef's mom's recipe. Absolutely delightful.\r \r Service was very cordial, and our waitress was lovely. Overall a solid experience, and I will definitely stop by again if I'm back in Santa Monica. more

I really wantedto like it......but the food just sucked!!!!! 6/13/2008

The ambiance and decor is nice. The waiter was great. I really wanted to like the place it had a nice feel, but the food was not good. We sampled multiple dishes. The ingredients are great, but the chef mostly just put things together. There was something missing. The best thing we had was the blueberry pie. We found out the owners mom makes it. We ordered three appetizers that were sub par. The grass fed rib eye we ordered smelt and tasted like it was soaked in GAS. We ordered the marrow bones. They were flavorless. How do you mess up Marrow or more importantly prepare it devoid of flavor. Half of our meal was returned. They did not even offer us anything different. The waiter who was calm and collected was wonderful. To bad his manager did not support him. She didn't even say a word to us, but brought us our pie and opened the door when we left. You would be a fool to eat hear twice. I could never trust to bring anyone there ever again. Pros: Ambieance Cons: Fppd more

eclectic, delicious 5/16/2008

i loved the eclectic menu that committed to as-organic-as-possible choices. i loved my crab salad - creamy, a little spicy, and best of all, it had avocado. the atmosphere is really open and welcoming, and anyone who favors fish over meat (like the people i went with) will enjoy. the truffle french fries taste gorgeous (so rich...so crunchy..oh yes.).\r a great find! more

strike two 3/23/2008

Ok, we hated this place the first time we went for more reasons than I have time to discuss here and everyone is saying give it a second chance, it's so much improved and so great, blah blah blah. The food may have gotten worse, the prices have gone up and the decor has only gotten tackier. We eat regularly in New York and Paris and are always telling people how terrible the restaurants are here in L.A. and this one only supports our argument. Lots of hype, high prices, bad service and mediocre food. Soggy fries, salty soup, tasteless fish and overcooked meat. If you like these things eat here, otherwise don't believe what you're hearing. We were very disappointed and will not give it a third chance and another $300. The wine and beer list is great but don't spoil it by pairing it with this food. Pros: wine and beer list Cons: everything else more

Organic and Lovely 3/8/2008

I don't know quite how to describe the tasty and creative menu, but it keeps me going back at least 1-2 times a week. I try to eat exclusively organic food, but sometimes ""organic and healthy"" ends up being ""tasteless and boring"". Not at 3 on Fourth! I noticed the first time I ate there that all the ingredients are organic, local and of very high quality. Since the menu changes daily, I find the fish is always an excellent and healthy choice. Although I do indulge sometimes and have the steak or the burger, both are always delicious. The interior is sleek, with great artwork and reminds me of a restaurant I would find in New York, but would be double the price. The wine selection is also vast and well chosen. I like to bring guests here as I know the service and food is consistently good. Just thinking about the food there makes me want to go right now! I had the trout with creme fraiche last time, and the lemon souffle for dessert. 3 on Fourth is a wonderful restaurant, definitely worth checking out even if you don't live in the neighborhood. Pros: parking nearby, amazing wine list, organic food Cons: none! more

Much improved -- fantastic new menu 12/2/2007

I just went to Three on Fourth again, after a really dissapointing first visit. The food, the service, and the menu are all vastly improved. We had a sampling of small and large plates, as well as a cheese plate, and all were delicious. Veggies were fresh and flavorful, fish was fantastically prepared, and the service was superb. Also, a great wine list -- lots of interesting picks from all over. Very highly recommended -- ideal for dates or groups. Pros: Great food, interesting wine list Cons: A bit pricey for what it is more

The Worst Food, Mean and Slow Service, and Overpriced! 11/29/2007

Terrible. Whomever wrote all the favorable reviews must work for the restaurant. As a professional chef I know that restaurants often write their own reviews to increase their ratings. Beware!\r We went for lunch and noticed the exorbitant price of the lobster bisque. Puzzled, we asked the waitress, ""why is it so pricey? Does it have a lot of huge chunks of lobster or another special ingredient?"" She informed us it had huge chunks of lobster, so we ordered it to split. When it arrived 30 minutes later, it was two tiny bowls of thin broth with nothing in them. We asked our server where the lobster was, and she said ""I'm sorry, it used to have lobster but not today."" Then our hostess asked how it was. We said we were disappointed because it was thin, brothy, small, and without any lobster meat, and very expensive. She sneered, ""It's a BISQUE, it's SUPPOSED to be thin."" As a chef I know this is not true and we were appalled by her attitude. Nobody offered to compensate us in any way. The main courses were unremarkable at best: The overpriced burger was nothing special except the cost. The miso eggplant was good in the spots where it was cooked, but half of it was raw and inedible. The scallop special on a jerusalem artichoke puree consisted of two warm scallops on a cold, unseasoned puree of jerusalem artichokes. I don't know if the puree being cold was an accident or not, but it was NOT tasty. Have you ever had cold mashed potatoes? Unappealing. Furthermore, we had cleared an hour and a half from our work schedules for lunch (should be ample time for 2 people to have lunch), but the service was extremely slow although the restaurant was not crowded, and it took 2 hours for us to get out of there with an extremely disappointing 2 course meal and an $80 dent in my wallet. The only people for whom this restaurant should hold any appeal are wealthy masochists who want to pay a lot for abuse by the staff, while consuming barely edible food. Pros: None. Cons: Food, Service, Prices more
