While I am not a huge fan of cake, I do like cupcakes. The serving size of a cupcake is usually just right to satisfy me. I saw this shop (Couture Cupcakes) on the way out of the movie theater and decided to try them out. BIG MISTAKE. I walked in and there was no one behind the counter. Waited a few minutes and the clerk came out and said, ""Hi,"" walked behind the register and didn't say anything else. Should have taken the hint then, but I decided I wanted to try one of their cupcakes, so I asked what flavors they had. The clerk pointed them all out to me. They didn't have many of their standard sized cupcakes in stock, but they did have some minis for $1 a piece, so I decided to try 3 different flavors, figuring that would amount to the size and price of one of their standard offerings. I tried a root beer, a plain chocolate and a red velvet. I couldn't decipher a difference between the red velvet and the chocolate. The root beer didn't have much of a rootbeer taste. All three cupcakes were drier than dry and the frosting was chalky...worse than a cupcake from the local grocer. I almost wiped my tongue with a napkin to get the texture of the frosting out of my mouth. I had seen their Facebook page and also checked out their website, and the photos looked nice enough. However, what they had in the case didn't really mirror the online photos. I have tried a few different places in town, including one on the west side and the cupcake truck. I'd recommend visiting either of those two.
