The Zoo Atlanta is expensive for only a one time visit, particularly for a family. However, if you join, you've paid for a family membership by the time you've visited twice.
The first time we went (prior to joining) we felt like we had to stay for hours just to get our money's worth. It was $49 for 2 adults, 1 infant and 1 child over 2 yrs old. We decided to join as we left the zoo and we're able to apply our cost of admission for the day to the cost of 1 year membership. (89.00 family membership).
Now we might go for an hour, just to see one or two animals, ride the train and the Carousel and get some ice-cream. Joining makes the experience more low-key. There's no pressure on the kids or the grown-ups to see/do everything.
