I'm writing to bring awareness to an issue that I had at this location. I needed to get either a cake and/or cupcakes for a birthday dinner for a friend of mine. It was after 7pm, so I knew it would not be the easiest to do, but never did I imagine it being so hard either! I called Scoop DeVille at 7:33pm. and the employee that answered confirmed that they had cakes AND they would be open until 8pm. I get to the door at at 7:50pm and the door is locked! I can see an employee in the back working and I knocked on the door. He basically gave me dismissive hand gesture and walked into a room further back in the establishment. I think i was a bit desperate to get a cake for this friend's birthday and I decided to call. The employee comes back into sight and answers the phone. I explained that I called him not too long ago and he confirmed that the store would be open until 8pm, and all I needed as a cake. He responds, "fine, I will let you in" and proceeds to slam the phone down in my ear and then slammed a towel on one of the counters in frustration. I'm looking at him in absolute shock at the fact that he would respond this way when I'm clearly in a jam AND I'm SPENDING my money! But don't forget the fact that I got to the door 10 minutes before closing! He truly made me feel like I was asking for a hand-out or something by simply opening the door and allowing me to SPEND my money. I knocked on the door again and gestured to him to don't even bother doing me any favors and I walked away. For me, this was truly a "what gives" situation because I was there before the closing time, there to spend money, so I don't know exactly what the problem was with this particular employee? For the record, I am a Black man, however, I wasn't dressed in "hip-hop" attire nor do I look particularly intimidating. Again, for me, this was a "what gives situation." The great thing is that there's an establishment at Walnut and Juniper by the name of Naked Chocolate that stays open late and that was a much better experience. The atmosphere
