Tops is the only true grocery within walking distance of the Bedford L train. They offer decent prices, though some items can be found at Kings Pharmacy for much cheaper (soap). They tend to offer excellent deals on natural cereals, 2.99 a box or so.
The bad part about Tops is that it is located a few doors down from a meat packing place. You'll want to hold your nose and avoid looking at the clear garbage bags if they are still sitting outside.
Also, make sure to check the dates on items, esp. fridge items- too many times I've brought something home to open it and find mold.
