Of the various local pizza parlours in the UM area, GPS is the most overtly Hispanic of the lot. Whereas Miami's Best makes American-style pizzas (thicker crust, medium cheese, heavy sauce); Pizza Rustica's pies are hommages to Rome's delicious uneven slices; and Big Cheese is traditional Neapolitan-American, it's GPS which will appeal to the broader Cuban/Hispanic population.\r \r The other reviewer mentioned the quality of cheese served by others and by GPS' predecessor, Riviera, which is a good pickup on detail. It seems to me that whatever cheese these folks use is acceptable, which is rather a good thing, since they use a heavy hand. It's literally wall-to-wall-cheese, in that South American (e.g., Argentine) manner.\r \r Their salad bar is all-inclusive, however, and all items, including the Daily Special of two slices of pizza and fountain drink ($4.99), are priced with budgets in mind.\r \r The ambiance is geered towards UM students and jocks, what with their twin overhead flatscreens playing ESPN, and across-the-road location to the campus. Curiously, they don't give UM discounts per se, unlike Miami's Best/Pizza Rustica. Being a modest operation (the place is narrow and rather tiny), perhaps it would cut into their profits. Those of you hoping to piggyback on their WiFi will also be left wanting -- none here.\r \r Bottom line is, this is not the place you run to when you want a terrific pizza. But it's definitely the place you drive to when you want a decent slice. more
