Serious R&R in Maryland's gorgeous Eastern Shore 7/10/2010

Spent merely one night at the marvelous Great Oak Manor Inn last night -- not nearly enough Book two, it's worth it. The first night is just enough to settle in and begin relaxing and forgetting your cares back home. A second night would finish the job properly. Not ""cheap"", but affordable -- and you get way more than what you pay for. This is more than a simple Bead & Breakfast. The huge rolling lawn, located directly along eastern shorline of the Chesapeake Bay, with gazebo (conveniently lined with mosquito netting) is as inviting as any other feature of this fantastic rural getaway. Complementary breakfast, incredibly gorgeous rooms, and cozy lounge areas (with indoor pool) top off this 'home away from home' in truly beautiful surroundings. They also host weddings and group events. Nearby Chestertown proper has fine restaurants, serving the kind of Maryland seafood classics you'd expect to find in this region, including super-fresh blue crab and mouthwatering local microbrews. The Brooks Tavern, in my opinion the best of all the local eateries, is reasonably priced by my New York standards (but then, anything is next to NY, L.A., etc.!). Other local activities include chartered fishing boats, duck pin bowling (!) and of course, movie theaters, live music venues, and much more. Do yourself a favor: book a night or two (or more) at the Great Oak -- you won't be sorry. Pros: Setting, rooms, ambience, and creature comforts all A++ Cons: mediocre coffee w/ delicious complementary breakfast more
