Quintessential Dim Sum Finally Arrives in DC 1/12/2010

After ages of looking for a dim sum spot in DC that serves more than mealy, doughy pork-only dumplings or fried vegetable dumplings, I'm excited that Ping Pong has arrived. There's a sizable variety of seafood dumplings for those of us who avoid swine, and all the dumplings are encased in a dough thin enough to highlight the fillings, not the casing. I avoided the Thai and Korean dishes that Tom picked, and went for classic dim sum dishes, all of which were delightful. I also had the asparagus, which was delightfully crispy on the outside and crunchy on the inside. As a veteran of English boarding school fare, I can assure readers that Ping Pong serves nothing like the bland, greasy food I grew up eating. Try the Kumquat mojito - delish! more
