friendly people, great food 5/25/2008

My wife and I eat at Sewickley Speakeasy one or two times a week. We are wine enthusiasts and mainly go to try new wines. If you can't find something you are interested in on the 12-page wine list, ask the owner(as another reviewer said): the wine cellar is huge and there a lots of goodies that aren't on the list. \r The food is excellent, too. Chef Janice has many years of experience in fine dining and really cares about the quality of everything she cooks. The creamy five onion soup is rich and unique. I haven't had an equal anywhere. I order it without the cheese topping, though, and order baked brie with baguettes to go with it. My favorite menu entrees are the lamb with pecan breading, and the duck a l'orange; but check out the nightly specials such as crab-stuffed salmon. For dessert, I like the pineapple upside down cake with coconut rum, but if you aren't in the mood for something that sweet, the apple puff pastry is also good. Expect to leave full: the portions are very generous and the prices reasonable.\r The building is a rambling old house nestled in the woods in Hayesville. Inside, the walls are covered with 20s era prints- mostly flapper-style ladies like the one on the business sign out front. There is a patio out back, and a couple times each summer they host a lobster/clambake that you really shouldn't miss.\r We have been 'regulars' for years, and I'm sure we'll be regulars for years to come, because its a relaxed, friendly place and we always get a good meal. more
