gene & jude's has THE BEST hot dogs and THE BEST fresh cut french fries in chicago hands down! huge, soggy and golden brown, the fries are so good the giant sack they sell is barely enough. It's a bare bones operation, no tables, but that's ok. the food makes up for it. Pros: cheap, delicious, reliable Cons: no seating, long lines more

This place is the BEST. I first went here in 1977 after a Marshall Tucker concert with a friend from college who grew up nearby. I now live over 1000 miles away but anytime I go back to Chitown I always make a point of going to Gene and Judes. Whatever you do DON'T ask for ketchup or your look like a fool. Always crowded no matter the time but always worth the wait. Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Late night drunks more

I've been making a trek to this place for most of my life now, and no matter how far away I live, I always know that a fantastic hot dog and fries waits for me at Gene and Judes. It's truly unique, found nowhere else on earth. Everybody I know thats tried them, loves 'em. The smell is unmistakeable. The taste is true ecstacy. You gotta love the combination fries/hot dog wrapped together for your enjoyment. Coincidentally, I loved reading all the othr reviews about the place, unfortunately, some one moron posted about 40 bad reviews all in a row... c'mon, us Gene and Jude lovers are smarter than to believe that so many people would log in in a 4 week span a post bad messages about the place... get a life! not always consistant like some chains but when they are fresh no one else comes close.Theres are also without catsup(ketchup)and still rule.It can get crowded but worth the wait Pros: inexpensive, great food, small menu ez to pick Cons: no seats stand up onl, they are too far, you will eat 2 much more

Whether you like it or not, Gene & Jude's represents everything that Chicago hot dog lovers hold holy. Hand cut fries, hot dog with tough skin, sport peppers, relish, and grease. Food is prepared by a slightly surly staff (nothing nasty, just enough to provide atmosphere) Two of these babies and I'm tasting them all day. If you want a true Chicago Style hot dog, this is the place. Only negative is that the lunch time line is very long. My wife introduced me to Gene & Judes when we were high school sweethearts (I moved from Missouri to Chicago, so didn't know what a good hot dog was). I joined the Military after graduation, and every time we returned to Chicago we ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS made time to get a rubberdog from Gene & Judes!! Sure, Portillo's is OK, but nothing can beat these babies! The fries are AWESOME, especially when a little mustard gets on them. Want ketchup?
