Best

I had always thought that a quesadilla was a quesadilla; and that you couldn't do anything to make a quesadilla extraordinary. Well, I stand corrected and duly humbled. The Pica...

I was in the Norcross area the other day, and I remember reading good reviews for Zapata. I didn't care if it was in a strip-center. or they didn't serve salsa and chips. The pl...

A Creative Mexican Restaurant! 2/15/2006

The previous reviews are pretty accurate. You get really good and original dishes, at great prices, and the restuarant is in a 'strip mall'. But really it's a nice setting, the 'strip mall' is just a few shops, obviously recently built, hey there's a Starbucks right next door! I've been in the Atlanta suburbs for a few years now and this is the best Mexican restuarant I've been to by far, and it's no more expensive than the standard taco/fajita places. I had some stew dish with beef, cactus, and tomatos served in a big piping hot lava bowl, and it was super, never seen anything like it before. Plus the kids chicken meal was a beautifully aranged plate of food which she loved. I was really impressed at the efforts they make in the quality of the food and the arrangement and presentation. I definitely recommend this place. Pros: food, service, prices Cons: tortillas more

Real Mexican food 1/24/2006

The chips & salsa are great, and they offer real mexican fare, not your run of the mill choose a taco, burrito or fajitas with chicken or beef combo fare. Food is excellent, service is fast and courteous, highly recommended. Pros: real mexican food, service, dessert more

Finally, gourmet mexican at a good value! 1/21/2006

I've been looking for a Mexican restaurant that provides a more interesting look at what I've read is a wonderfully vast quisine. Chips, taco's etc have gotten old and one dimentional. Zapata offers a truely unique selection of mexican dishes w/ great depth of flavor. After tasting Zapat's Chicken Enchiladas w/ Mole' Sauce I new I had finally found a truely great dish. It was spicey, but not overpoweringly hot and had just the right amount of sweetness. For dessert I had the flan which was one of the best I've ever eaten. This is my favorite Mexican Restaurant. It will be the one I push for when anyone mentions Mexican food. I must admit the chips and salsa were so good we ordered a 2nd serving. General Manager is a true host. Pros: ~$10 entree, good parking, very very friendly Cons: strip mall-nice decor, is it big enough?, food is "too" good more

The real stuff 10/16/2005

Having worked in Mexico it is hard to find authentic Mexican food. The food brings back great memories. Of course, their knowledge of tequila is fantastic. So if you are willing to experience the ""real thing"", you must go to Zapata. And no, they did not pay me, in cash or tequila, to write this review. more

ok but not worth any trip 1/28/2005

Kessler likes Zapata and I did too after my first visit. I had Enchiladas Verde (chicken with green mole) and it was pretty good for $9. Second visit had the Snapper w/Mango Chipotle sauce and didn't much care for it even though the fish was cooked well. It was a small serving but cost only $11 or $12. Accompanying bland vegetables had NO seasoning what so ever. Third visit had Chicken Enchiladas w/brown mole. Their brown mole was way too sweet for me and had to scrape it off to finish it. It was just bad IMO. Their prices are reasonable but the portions are small. They skimp on the rice and equates to about a bit over a 1/2 cup cooked. Beans are like 4 tbs dallops at most. Pros: cheap Cons: small portions, moles not that good more

A mexican restaurant without chips??? 1/5/2005

i was very disappointed that they don't serve chips before the meal. it's not expensive and it's a standard at every mexican restaurant i've ever been to. i couldn't really enjoy it when i found out we're not getting any snack. as for the food, it was pretty good, except for the fact that the portions are small but cost the same as the big ones somewhere else. i don't think i'm going there again. and i wouldn't recommend it. more

True Mexican Gourmet 5/9/2004

This was an excellent discovery thanks to Citysearch. Latin people will appreciate the true Mexican gourmet cooking as well as the friendly service and excellent live music. Fridays and Saturdays are filled with Live music with former frontman from the Venezuelan group Tempano. A MUST hear. Would benefit from being in a place for itself. Portions are not hughe, which is great for tasting different things and enjoying a good meal without regret. Pros: Inexpensive, Food Quality, Excellent Service more

A MUST!! 7/30/2003

I've wanted to visit Zapatas earlier this year, and just got around to it this summer. I wish I hadn't waited so long!! The food is incredible, hands down some of the best autherntic Mexican food I have eaten in the U.S. The owner is fantastically attentive and very helpful with menu questions. The margaritas are much better than most restaurants, and the menu in full of authentic and perfectly prepared entrees. I wish the location was not in a strip mall, for a patio or an outdoor eating area would really change the ambiance of the entire restaurant. My husband and I went for my birthday, and we were chased out into the parking lot while we were leaving by the owner to bring us back in for a desert he was preparing for us! I suggest taking the time to travel to Norcross for a great dining experience! Pros: Great Menu Selection, Inexpensive, Fantastic Service Cons: Strip Mall Location, No Patio, No Drink Menu more

Different 7/18/2003

Imagine an off the beaten path Mexican cantina in a Mexican city that only locals go to because the food is more like what the senioritas cook at home and inexpensive; not like what the gringo touristas eat on main street. Totally different mexican food experience. Nice decor. Excellent service (owner introduces himself to all diners). Excellent marguritas. Nicely varied but not overwhelming menue. Go there! O'le. Pros: Menue, Marguritas, Service more

Excellent and Original 7/2/2003

This is not Chili's or Rio Bravo! Excellent food, very different menu. Love the chicken mole and try the melted cheese dip for an appetizer. Prices are great and this deserves to be the new hot Mexian place. Restaurants in North Atlanta are fast surpassing Buckhead and Midtown. Wait, they already have! more

zapata 6/29/2003

my sister introduced me to zapata last month, she told me to try ""green cream"" is called sopa de chile POBLANO, to be honest is the best ever. this is a poblano based a little bit spicy ""spicy good"" melted cheese in the hot cream and is served with crutons. We also had a shot of tequila, the presentation is very nice . The waitres really cared to let us know about the difference of a good tequila. I'll go again, is excelent! over all i had time to enjoy a good conversation with out being disturb. Pros: food, enviroment, people more

Zapata Zowie 2/27/2003

Authentic and exciting mexican cuisine, great flavours and service without the boring chips and bottled salsa. Don't miss it you live in or are visiting the Norcross area! Pros: charming atmosphere, moderate price, wonderful flavors Cons: noisy at times more
