Best

Wow, I have had a truly different experience from the past 2 reviewers!! I have been going to this studio since September. Before I began I had NEVER taken a vinyasa style class...

Worst

The owner is a nasty woman, she is rude to customers. No thank you. The teachers are all very uninspiring. The whole studio reeks of averageness. Not recommended

OM My God!! 12/1/2011

I guess having to pay for Montague Street rents, an absentee owner, a studio manager and several front desk employees leaves little revenue to pay the actual yoga instructors. As a result, many classes are taught by rather inexperienced teachers, similar to the ones typically found at fitness clubs. Given the small studio space, the musty staircase one needs to climb to get there, and the less then welcoming staff, popping a yoga CD into your computer seems like the better (and way cheaper) option. more

Nice Studio, Friendly Staff, Good Neighbourhood 5/23/2011

This studio was very nice. The front desk staff are friendly and welcoming. The women's dressing room is spacious. I enjoyed the instructors at this studio. The neighbourhood is great too - you're right downtown in Brooklyn! Fun! more

Beautiful studio, Beautiful teachers 2/1/2010

Wow, I have had a truly different experience from the past 2 reviewers!! I have been going to this studio since September. Before I began I had NEVER taken a vinyasa style class and had only dabbled in Hatha and Bikram. I started with basic classes and tried as many different teachers as I possibly could before settling on my favorites, but I can honestly say that each and every teacher has been supportive, humble, super educated, and has had something unique and special to offer to my practice. I now take some of the most challenging classes they provide and continue to learn and grow during every class. I can not possibly imagine who those two critics could be refering to, but please don't let them stop you from trying out this studio. I for one have found a very happy home there!! Pros: Teachers from a variety of styles, warm community feel. Cons: No mat storage space for rent. more

beautiful studio but hollow heart 1/21/2010

I'm sorry, I tried this place three times, and to put it bluntly, the teachers are unbearable. It is so taken for granted that they are beautiful, smart, lovely, enlightened people that they forget how they come off to the rest of us. They are condescending even when you ask innocent questions. It is like they hate new people. The last time, I said No way, I'm not coming back. There is a male teacher who is unbelievably vain, and a female teacher who needs some ego reduction surgery. Note: There may be some good teachers here that I didn't have but that's a risk that I'll have to take. I am generally critical of Bikram classes, but you know what? At least they serve the masses. Pros: lovely floors Cons: snobs more

thanks but NO THANKS 1/10/2010

Unbelievably terrible vibe from the teachers. Acceptable yoga instruction but certainly nothing great. Definitely not worth it. Practice at home. My experience in three words: Rude. Arrogant. Competent. more

Great Yoga Studio in Bklyn or anywhere 9/20/2009

Being a guy I am always a little apprehensive about new yoga studios. However this place was very welcoming . I first called the place on Saturday to get a better feel of the studio and left a message. I received a call back the next day where this very friendly and funny person help put my feelings at ease. She understood where I was coming for as a Guy and my concerns and assured me that the place was friendly. When I arrived everyone was out going - the owner came of and introduced herself and talked about the different classes. The instructed was very helpful and the class was challenging. A definite return more

Yoga People in Brooklyn Heights 4/15/2009

In the three years that I have had a yoga practice Yoga People has been the nicest and most enjoyable studio for me to visit regularly. The studio has wonderful instructors and the class size is small enough that you will get personal attention. The studio offers a great selection of yoga classes from beginner classes to advanced levels. Yoga People also has a good schedule of classes to take both during the day and at night. Overall I would hole-heartedly recommend Yoga People to anyone interested in either starting to learn about Yoga or for individuals continuing in their current practice. The Brooklyn Heights studio is beautiful and the relaxed atmosphere is a perfect place to take classes and meet other nice people. The friendly owner is more than happy to help in anyway she can in fitting your yoga interests to classes that are available. Yoga People will make your yoga practice stress-free while making it a personal experience. Pros: Best Yoga Studio in Brooklyn more

Best studio in Brooklyn! 11/18/2008

Yoga People is an amazing studio! Their new space is intimate without feeling crowded, with huge windows that let in tons of natural light and gorgeous wooden floors. THeire mom-and-baby classes are terrific, and their prenatal teachers are incredible. In fact, all the insturctors are wonderful, tremendously supportive and encouraging despite your skill level. It's the best studio I've been to in Brooklyn! Pros: Gorgeous space, great teachers more

Great studio! 10/23/2008

I love this studio. Warm, welcoming, with a beautiful room. I have been so impressed with every instructor here--high caliber across the board! I am so happy to have found a wonderful yoga studio in Brooklyn. Pros: Variety of disciplines to choose from, personal attention from instructors more

Best Place to Catch Your Breath! 10/22/2008

I just moved to Brooklyn and am so relieved to have found a studio I love just as much as my studio back home! The studio at Yoga People is beautiful with high ceilings and big windows, and I love that they let me use their mats for free so I don't have to haul my own with me. I took a particularly wonderful Jivamukti class with Jen, and have yet to take a class from someone I did not like. Everyone I've encountered there has been lovely, staff and other students alike. Yoga People has quickly become a part of my routine, my new home away from home! more

Lovely! 10/15/2008

What a departure from the standard Yoga studio. The place is so calming and zen like and does not contain that garish colors and general cheesiness you so often see in yoga studios. Its nice they used a lot of green materials too. The class was great--a little difficult for me becuase I am stiff and out of practice but the instructor was very accomodating. The spa looks lovely too I can't wait to get a massage there. Pros: Ambience more

unpleasant 10/13/2008

The owner is a nasty woman, she is rude to customers. No thank you. The teachers are all very uninspiring. The whole studio reeks of averageness. Not recommended more

Best Classes for Beginners in GORGEOUS space! 9/14/2008

I was introduced to yoga at Yoga People shortly after moving into the neighborhood last year. I took their beginner's course and LOVED it!! I feel more alive, I have less pain in my neck and shoulders and I'm more energetic. I couldn't stop recommending it to all my friends enough and ended up taking the course again with a friend who loved it as well - she's become a regular student and I get out to class as much as I possibly can - I particularly love Jen, the Jivamukti teacher and Morgen's class and the times work with my busy schedule. The new space is AMAZING and the most gorgeous space on Montague Street and the spa there is now my new favorite place to go for massage and is great for spa parties (I've had 2 ;) ). So take a class and then get in for a massage - there's really nothing sweeter! Pros: Great instructors and gorgeous space! more

Great New Space on Montague Street! 6/15/2008

If you haven't already, check out Yoga People's new space on Montague Street- all I can say is WOW! The space is so calming and beautiful, and just steps from the R train which is perfect for me! The spa area has expanded and is equally beautiful, which leaves me to wonder...why haven't I gotten a massage here yet??? Seriously I am so impressed by the space and if you are serious about yoga in B'lyn Heights then this is the place to go. Pros: It's beautiful! more

Intimate & like family atmosphere 4/12/2008

I hadn't taken yoga in several years and came across this space walking by with friends, and am so glad I did! The teachers are awesome and very attentive. Classes are intimate and personal and you get the personalized attention from the teachers that you don't get at the big studios in the city. They make sure that they know every student's limitations prior to class so they can ensure a safe expereience. Have also gotten massages there- what a treat! I don't even live that close to the studio but I keepcoming back every week. Do yourself a favor and try Yoga People- and bring a friend! Pros: Great teachers & atmosphere Cons: It's not closer to MY house! more

a yoga oasis in hectic brooklyn heights 3/31/2008

What a great place to practice yoga!! I've been practicing for over 15 years and have been everywhere. The teachers here are hand picked for their excellent instruction, style and spirit and it shows in every class. Beautiful, clean environment and friendly, knowledgeable staff. There is always a smiling face to greet you at the desk and answer questions. And they're moving to Montague Street in May to an even more beautiful space! And with the same great teachers and more massage therapists at the Urbanzen Spa, it doesn't get much better. How great to take a yoga class and then have really great bodywork, all in the same place. I'm so glad I found Yoga People! \r Pros: everything you could want in a yoga studio Cons: hard to park in bklyn hghts (not their fault) more

Sweet space - Jorja - a very inspiring teacher - lots of Yogic People!! 2/25/2008

Yoga People ROCKS! \r \r Fast and friendly front desk. \r \r You would also be very well served to check out saturday classes with Jorja; her class is accessible, intelligently conducted, and her vibrantly relaxed style is a delight. Inspirational.\r \r And I'm coming from Manhattan so being this close to all the trains really helps...worth the trip for sure!\r \r Yoga People is Good People!! \r Pros: The Peeps Cons: Open a Yoga People in Manhattan too! more

Great teachers 2/24/2008

Great teachers and a wonderful environment. I have been coming to classes for a year and would not dream of going anywhere else. The price of classes is comparable to other studios in the area but here you get individual attention, unlike many other larger studios. Pros: Teachers, Atmosphere, Variety of Classes more

Nce space, bad vibes 2/9/2008

small intimate space, lots of outside noise, teachers and staff revolve like the proverbial door. Stay away from the nasty owner, and its an OK experience Pros: Convenient Cons: Owner more

Overpriced 2/2/2008

The teachers are amazing. The classes are $17 - $2 more than most comparable yoga studios. Although I love the teachers, if you're on a budget you should find another place. Pros: Awesome teachers, great location Cons: Overcrowded, expensive more
