Thats, hmmmmm? not yummmmmm! I'm not sure about all the hype. We had great service, but so-so food. And with all the choices this city has, I probably won't go back. The wine ...

Most delicious dinner 10/9/2007

my favorite past time is trying out new restaurants locally and while traveling so going to portland was a treat. From the moment my bf and I stepped into the Wildwood, the service, food, and atmosphere were incredible. A friend highly recommended this place, but after reading a few reviews we were hesitant, however the food spoke for itself. It was eclectic and superb. any menu that changes periodically means the chef truly cares about his restaurant. we tried the duck and halibut, both were very tender and extremely well seasoned. not only will i return here every time i come back to Portland, but I will tell everyone I know to try it out! Pros: service impeccable, great wine list, amazing service Cons: slightly small tables, but not a big problem since it held all the food we ordered! more

Good Food, Easy Parking, Loud 9/19/2007

Four of us went here on a weeknight. We had reservations for 8:00 but showed up around 7:30 and had no problem getting seated. Unfortunately, we were seated at a table right by the kitchen; while it was fun to watch the chefs in action, is was also a very loud spot! Our server showed up promptly but we asked him to please come back as one person in our party had to visit the restroom, and that was a mistake...he didn't come back for 15 minutes after that (and although we made an effort to joke with him at times, he did not have much of a sense of humor either, but that's forgivable)!!! While our main waiter left a bit to be desired, however, everyone else -- the girl who filled our water glasses and the staff who brought the food -- were much friendlier. The food was also slow coming out of the kitchen; it seems like we waited a looong time between each course. Everything we ordered was nicely done (fish was perfectly cooked), but some of the dishes, mainly starters, were overpriced. $10 for 4 slices of Heirloom tomato is a bit steep, but they were ripe and had a delicious horseradish cream sauce accompanying them. Same price for most salad starters...a little much. All four entrees were good, and the apple ""cannoli"" and spice ice cream for dessert was very good; perfect ending on a crisp Fall evening. Pros: Good Parking, Good Food Cons: Service, Value more

One of the best dishes I've had in Portland. 8/5/2007

One of the absolute best dishes I've had here in Portland, perhaps in my life so far, has been at Wildwood. Pros: Amazing, innovative menu, local ingredients more

Outstanding! 7/26/2007

With an ever changing menu and professinal waitstaff, Widwood stands out as one of Portland's finest restaurants. more

Typical overpriced Portland restaurant 6/15/2007

In Portland it seems that restaurants can charge high prices and get away with it because they are using fresh, local ingredients. There is nothing about this place that stands out. Pros: Local ingredients Cons: $9 for a beet salad? more

Wow! 5/6/2007

My boyfriend and I went in here a few nights ago for dinner. more

color me unimpresse 4/5/2007

I was so thoroughly disappointed in my lunch at Wildwood, I can only hope that dinner is an entirely different experience. Service was amateur at best, the water and coffee were spilled, as cutlery was collected it was simultaneously dropped. The waiter was unable to answer simple questions regarding menu items and hardly anything could be heard over the din of the dining room! Lunch menu was extremely uncreative, consisting of hamburger (seriously?) with mushy lackluster fries, fish and chips (again, seriously?) with sour coleslaw, and several seafood options, most of which arrived seriously overcooked. If this is considered some of the best Portland has to offer, it's time to move! Pros: seasonal menu Cons: way too much hype more

Rude Hostess 1/8/2007

After a very unpleasant experience with a weekend hostess, the manager has fully apologized and rectified my previous concerns. Pros: food Cons: Poor Service more

Very Good 10/21/2006

On a recent trip to Portland, ate here and Paley's Place across the street. They were both good, but Paley's was better on food. Wildwood, which also had good food, had better atmosphere. Wildwood also seemed to have more wines by the glass and the per bottle charge was a little less. I was underwhelmed by the service. Good choice. Pros: Good food and nice decor Cons: service is a little unenthusiastic more

Pacific Northwest Food at its Finest 10/3/2006

Wildwood, like Higgins, is one of the true Oregon/Pacific Northwest dining experiences. Great atmosphere. Wonderful food, which is seasonally-appropriate. They feature locally, sustainably-grown food. Great wine list. The bar is also a great place to go on a Sunday night for a quick dinner before the work week. Bravo Wildwood! more

Our favorite restaurant 9/26/2006

Amazing food with an equally good wine list. Great service too. Negatives: tables are a too little close together for my taste. Still one of the best places in Portland. Pros: Service, food, wine Cons: parking more

Wow! 9/14/2006

What a treat! I really had no expectations, just wanted to have a nice dinner with friends and WOW! The food selections are the epitomy of Northwest Cuisine! Drinks were great, food was great, and the service was great!!! It can be quite loud so don't expect to have a nice, quiet dinner... Pros: Food, drinks, service Cons: parking, noise levels more

Great experience, fine food, weak desserts 7/6/2006

Husband and I moved to Portland recently from San Francisco (Noe Valley), and Wildwood is one of those places that makes us feel like we made the right decision. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews here -- we had an excellent meal, from the bean soup to the suggested wines (paired superbly with husband's lamb entree). Only weakness was the dessert, a chocolate cake, which tasted like it had been in the fridge too long. Service was excellent, the manager came by to say a sincere hello, even though it was clearly a busy evening. Pros: Solid NW cuisine, discreet service Cons: Weak desserts more

Only in Portland 6/2/2006

Only in Portland could a sub-par joint like this garner rave reviews and keep them coming back for years. It started as a joke with mediocre, tasteless food and nasty service. Went back recently to see things hadn't changed. This would not go over in San Francisco, L.A. or New York. more

thought it was great 5/29/2006

Was there over memorial day weekend. Food was just fabulous. Waitstaff has attitude, which has been noted previously on this board. I go to a LOT of restaurants and there's really no need for this. Get a grip folks. Wine was great too. All in all, quite expensive, but very good. Pros: good food, wine Cons: waitstaff more

Nice place, but TOO LOUD!! 5/27/2006

I loved the look of this restaurant, but the noise and accoustics were almost too much. The parsnip soup was excellent!! The rest of the 4 courses my wife and I ordered were better than most of the resaurant offerings that we've experienced. Overall, Wildwood is nice, but the noise takes away from the total experience. Pros: Good food, Wait staff, Decor Cons: NOISE, parking more

Nervous at first but loved it 2/18/2006

I was a little nervous to try this place due to the many poor reviews on this site, but I had a gift certificate - so why not. My husband and I went for dinner on Sunday and were pleased to see they offer 'family size' portions of some of their dishes on Sunday - better value than purchasing two separate entres but still spendy. We had the sea scallops, which were some of the best we've had. The service was fantastic - quite contrary to the other reviews. We'll definitely be back, most likely on a Sunday again for the dinner value. I was most pleased when I saw that they sat the two families w/ babies in/near the bar as to not bother the other diners. Nothing worse than droping $100 for dinner while listening to a baby scream! We loved our fantastic, child free dinner! Pros: Family style dinner, Attentive staff, Wonderful scallops Cons: Expensive wine menu, Cost more

Who's Paying Who? 12/9/2005

I called to make 7:00 p.m. reservations for my book club of 9 people's Christmas dinner. I was told that we would have to come in either at 6:30 for the ""first seating"", or come at 7:00 and leave by 8:00 for them to prepare for their second seating. After much ""todo"" the manager agreed to accomodate us, and not kick us out of our table at 8:00. We were greeted with no smile, no ""how are you doing"", or any indication anyone was happy we were there. The wait staff was NOT friendly, and the food was very overrated. I had the pork which was very tough and dry. Wildwood needs to figure out they are not the only star in Portland anymore. When we left the restaurant, not one person looked up and said good by, or anything for that matter. Don't waste your special night at Wildwood. Pros: ambiance, location, parking Cons: rude behavior, food was "okay", not accomodating more

Ungracious Service 12/7/2005

My husband and I have brought numerous clients through Wildwood and have always been pleased with the food and service. Last night our waitress, known only by my credit card receipt as ""KellieP,"" was snotty, disinterested & had a garishly disrespectful manner in correcting our guest on their pronunciation of menu items as they attempted to order them. She even corrected their syllable emphasis while asking for ""water."" Unbelievable. Almost humerous if she were at all joking or capable of doing so. Pros: Local Ingredients, Parking Lot, Revolving Menu Cons: Select Wait Staff more

yawn... 11/19/2005

i came to wildwood with an open mind. my first impression was good, until we ventured to the back where the restaurant/food service is located. the decor and artwork were uninteresting and typical. nothing special just boring, yawn. the staff seemed pleasant but again boring. you should note that the menu is limited on sundays (family dinners). the food was disappointing. every item we ordered was smothered in sauces that complicated the simple flavors of the entree. i passed on dessert. i found this restaurant disappointing on just about every level. Pros: seated promptly Cons: everything, boring experience more
