I attended West Coast Phlebotomy even after I read the above reviews. I thought maybe it was true they were disgruntled students who failed out. But I can see now how terrible wrong I was. I completed the course. Top grades. Finished the Nationals with a high score. But I don't feel I learned anything. The vast majority of class was listening to the teacher talk about how awesome she is, and how awesome the school is. Most of the ""science"" she taught us was incomplete or incorrect. The entire school hearkens to the idea of being professional but there was not a discernible hint of it anywhere. She bragged about how many people she had kicked out of class. My entire class was afraid of her. We liked the interns just fine, but the vast majority of my class hated the teacher. Her lab methods seem legit, but beyond that the class is worthless. And her lab methods aren't anything special. She doesn't have you finish the text book in class, but I finished it on my own and learned that her methods are laid out right there. She claims they're inspired and original, but they're as CLIA '95 recommends them to be. The time in class that you weren't in lab, you were in the class room goofing off with the other students. While fun to meet new people, now worth paying $2500 for. The class also does not sanitize or bleach any of the tourniquets or table tops so there is dried blood everywhere. They don't use OSHA required bio hazard bags for biowaste. And she doesn't pay as much attention to what is going on as she says. There are 24 steps you are to go through. Countless times was somebody drawing on me and they missed several steps and she was none the wiser. But she makes you think she's on top of her game. She also discourages the use of her internship programs even after several students eagerly asked about them. She dismissed them outright. So it is possible she may not have any contracts. She spends a whole week on her sick and dying friend who suffers from AIDS, rather than touching on the subject during the AIDS unit. It's completely inappropriate to learn about her friend in such detail, especially when there are several chapters in the book that are important that she doesn't assign. The testing methods in that class are a joke. We played hang man for some of our tests. What is this? First grade? And the final note is that her school is not on the radar of any employer no matter how she likes to make it seem otherwise. I am only writing this now, well long after I completed this course because I got promoted at the job I had already. I never even found a phlebotomy job. As far as I know, only one person in my class has so far. We've been out for awhile now. If you like to spend your money and time on pointless and meaningless education then this class is for you. But I assume you're smarter than that so I'd recommend going to PSU or some other nationally recognized school instead.
