Best

Get the elvis burger and the sweet potato fries- you will NOT regret it. Love the decor, the personality. It was all I had hoped for and now places in my top 5 favorite restaurant...

Worst

All I have heard is Vortex, Vortex for best hamburgers in Atlanta. When I hear that I always take it with a grain of salt considering who is heaping on the accolades. I was prett...

Best burgers & tots! 3/11/2007

I have frequented this Vortex location as well as its' sister location in Little Five Points multiple times over the years. The burgers, both beef & veggie, are always great. I have always received great service--prompt and surprisingly friendly. The beer selection is fairly extensive by the bottle (lots of microbrews & funky imports) and they have a decent draft selection (more than just Bud Light).\r \r Parking can be an issue during certain times of the day, but there are almost always places on the side streets. Always check to see if you should seat yourself or you might be standing at the hostess stand forever! Pros: Tater Tots, Burgers, Service, Beer Selection Cons: Smoking allowed more

best burgers in Atlanta! 2/26/2007

Vortex has great burgers acording to my friends, and from someone who doesn't eat red meat vortex has the best turkey burgers I have ever eaten. I know most people wouldn't go to Vortex just to eat a turkey burger or veggie burger but if you're dating someone who doesn't eat red meat or any meat at all, you don't have to rule it out! Also the tater-tots are great. Save some time for finding a parking spot, and don't expect the friendliest service. Pros: food, bar scene, great hours Cons: parking, service more

Midtown's Best Hamburger! Great Beer Selection! Still Funky Atmosphere! 1/31/2007

We first started eating the burgers at The Vortex, several years ago, when they were still a little hole-in-the wall joint at W. Peachtee & 11th.St. Suzanne Benoit, and her brother from California, brought their own style to Atlanta. It was an instant success. It was my favorite then, and I still like their burgers today at the enlarged Peachtree location. Burgers can be had any way you like. Sometimes, they can be a little overcooked. The beer selection is unreal. And if you drink enought, you just might see that very naughty Suzanne pull up on her bright yellow BMW bike. What a fox! Pros: Very Good Midtown Burger Joint! Excellent Beer Selection! Cons: Parking Can Be Tricky, If Driving! more

Good food, fun atmosphere 11/8/2006

Okay, so maybe some people don't like the Vortex and some people get bad service. Do those people ever think that maybe they've had a bad day or that maybe they were rude themselves? \r \r Anyway, I honestly think the Vortex is a good place to eat. It's not your fine dining restaurant, so you don't need to go there expecting that. It's a casual restaurant where you can relax. I love the food and the service is usually good so I would recommend the Vortex to my friends that are visiting Atlanta and to attendees of Dragon*Con. more

RUDE and Horrible Service, Below Average Food 9/11/2006

At the Vortex, it's all about them, not about the customer. I live right around the block from them in Midtown and have eaten there several times in the past year but each time I leave more and more disappointed. The waiters keep getting more rude everytime and the food is below average at best. This WAS a great place but unfortunately has steadily gone downhill. Don't get SUCKED in to the Vortex. Pros: The Bar (even though they were out of half of the draught beers on the menu) Cons: Terrible Service, Below Average Bar Food more

fun atmosphere, good bar food 8/9/2006

From the perspective of someone who has worked in restaurants for several years as a server and bartender, this place is great. Their rules of etiquette are things that anyone who has ever had to serve food to the general public would love plastered on any menu. I had a great experience; good food, and our server did a great job of popping up at the exact right times. This restaurant is meant to be fun and casual. I don't think you should you go there if you don't know how relax a little and not take things so seriously. more

Fun atmoshere and the best burgers 7/24/2006

I always have a blast when I go to the Vortex (either location). The burgers are great, I prefer the Rajin Cajun myself. When you go in and sit down READ THE RULES OF VORTEX ETTIQUETTE ON THE FRONT OF THE MENU!!! That way you know what to expect. Perhaps if the previous reviewer would have done so, she would have had a better time. It's not a joke, the servers and management enforce those rules. Don't expect happy service with a smile, it ain't gonna happen. That's part of the fun of it. Kinda like D's Last Resort. The servers expect you to respect them and if you do so, they'll respect you. Start making demands and being prissy, and they won't be nice in serving you, but remember if you read the rules, you've been warned. It's a fun bar scene, the atsmoshere is a blast and the food is great for the price. I recommend it to anyone. Pros: Bar Scene, Great Drinks Cons: Parking limited more

Rude as hell! 3/29/2006

Unfriendly staff (little 5 points) but tolerated for years until last weekend. The waiter came for the drink orders. Some were not ready to order and some were. When one tried to order he cut her off and said ""I am not taking separate orders. Ya 'll are not gonna make my job harder!"" Then when he comes back he says sarcastically, ""Now, is EVERYONE ready to order?"" I tried to explain that we did not know we could not place separate drink orders but he cut me off and started yelling at me and stated, ""ya'll are not about to have me running back and forth, I will get the manager!"" Then the manager comes out and says ""well, what do you expect me to do?"" Needless to say, I will never go back to that place! Pros: drinks Cons: servers, manager more

In love with Art 10/5/2005

I had a blast, my co workers and I went for my birthday and I had a great time my waiter sucked but the bartenders made up for it. I would highly recomend everyone go atleast once. Pros: Bartenders, Food, Great Prices Cons: Parking more

Its not a family restaurant 8/30/2005

Vortex is not your fine dining experience. Vortex is not a family restaurant. Maybe its for the younger crowd, mid-late 20s, b/c I never had a problem with it. They have yummy burgers and the fondue w/ tots is the best. Rock on Vortex! Pros: burgers, tater tots Cons: parking more

Excuse me 5/18/2005

The hamburgers here at best are average, no more but maybe less. I was dining at the L5P locale in the midst of eating, and apparently my waitress thought I was done because she TOOK my plate as I was eating without asking if I was done. And good luck trying to get her attention. Good night! Absolutely rude rude rude! Pros: Average food Cons: Service lousy, Not smoke free more

Great Burgers 3/16/2005

I love their food, great services. It was fast and clean, the place was looking wonderful. Pros: Good Parking, Awsome Place, Great Pictures more

best beer selection and burgers in Atl. 2/1/2005

My favorite place in Atlanta to sip a beer and eat a burger. The best burgers, bar food, and beer selection if you like a different kind of place. Multiple options for burgers and the other sandwiches are equally good. I have never had a bad meal out of the 40 or so I have had at the Midtown location. Over 200 beers available in an alternative joint with an attitude. I love this place and if tattoos and ear rings might scare you, don't go. It's a great place to start off with if headed to a concert, etc. Pros: best burgers, over 200 beer choices, cool clientel more

The Burgers Aren't All That 8/18/2004

Ok, I'm going to keep this short and to the point. I finally visited the peachtree street location today after hearing that my quest to find the perfect burger would end here. Well, let me say this. The burgers at the Vortex are at best average. Who ever rated this place high must have spent a few hours at the bar first. The burger barely had any flavor, it was not tender, and the bun could've been tastier. If you really want a good burger, please go to any of the following joints: Fuddruckers, Sonic for the Super Sonic Buger, Hardees for the 1/2 lb angus, and Wendy's for the Classic Triple. Trust me, you'll be glad you did..... Pros: bar more

Good burgers, but.... 2/24/2004

I've been eating at the Vortex for over 10 years, beginning at the one that was tucked into a smoky storefront armpit at the corner of 11th and West Peach. For almost all of that time I have held forth that the Vortex is (or ""are"", now that L5P has one) the purveyor of the best burger in town. I must now correct myself. While I still think it's a great burger, it has, in my humble estimation, fallen to third (no slouch in that, is there?). Second is the EARL (when they're on; sometimes one gets the product of a surly kitchen and temporarily swars off the EAV dive). First is Ms. Anne's Snack Bar. I can't explain 'em, you just gotta go. Go hungry, and ask for the Ghetto Burger. You too will convert... more

Great burgers 1/25/2004

Great burger joint with a huge menu of food. For a good laugh, check out the website. Don't go to the vortex if you are high maintenace, i.e. prissy, since you definitely won't leave happy. Pros: Great food, Laid back crowd more

Dry something 5/27/2003

My wife and I waited an hour to taste a dry grey piece of overpriced soemthing in a bun. After hearing so much about the place we expected something special. The help were all uncaring kids under 25, the atmosphere was as unique as a TGIF and the food was terrible. the now closed Carey's on Cobb Pkwy was still the best. Ann's on Memorial Drive is the current champ. more

One of the Best in Atlanta 5/27/2003

If you don't like red meat you can substitue chicken of vegie for all of the different burger options. This place is great. I make a special trip to midtown at least one a month to go to grab the best chicken sand in the world, tater tots, and a beer. It a great place to stop before catching a show at the Tabernacle or whatever your next Mid/Downtown destination will be. I like this location better because it has more of an urban feel. I have zero complaints about this place. Pros: Chicken Sandwich, Tater Tots, Cheap Beer Cons: Parking, None, None more

Be ready to wait. 4/30/2003

The burgers kick ass, but you won't get to enjoy them because you'll be wolfing them down to prevent starvation. I've been in there at least a dozen times, and the service has always been exceptionally slow- even by Atlanta's standards. I'm fully aware that it takes a while to cook good food, but c'mon. Pros: Good food, decent price Cons: Slow service, Slow service, Slow service more

WHY? 4/12/2003

I have actually had WORSE burgers in the city, but these are in the bottom 5. For one, if you're a guy who weighs more than 108lbs, you'll think they served you finger food at some biker-style gala dinner for you and your cultured friends. If you're a lady who is also a model, you'll feel comfortable knowing you don't have to leave lots on your plate and appear anorexic. Where to get a burger that's juicy burger and tastes like somebody gives a rat's azz? 1. Carolyn's on W. Peachtree; 2. Charlie G's at W Peachtree and 11th; 3. Righteous Room on Ponce de Leon (not that big but good); 4. Front Page News on crescent off 12th (for a steak version). Of course, Houston's or Houlihan's are a ""can't miss"" in my book. Sorry, Vortex, your burger crowing days are LONG GONE!! Pros: atmosphere, relaxed Cons: food, food, food more
