Expectations set high yet not a great ending 6/14/2011

New to the town and heard that Vinnie's was all the rage. Went in open minded sat down at the bar with my lady friend and had a great drink and the bartender was extrememly personable and friendly I believe his name was Steve. After about 45 minutes we decided to go have a seat at a table the atmosphere and the wine cellar in the middle of the room is a great touch if it was cleaned and taken care of. The server came to our table and got us drink refills went over the specials and our decisions were made. My lady friend had a filet and I had a ribeye. Pretty basic but the basics are the best in my eyes even went with baked potatoes. Well both steaks were overcooked and to the potatoes were brown on the inside like they had been reused from the night before. I brought this to the attention of the manager whom I believe his name was Tom and he basically said I was wrong. His attitude was mind blowing and to see him storm off into the kitchen and here slamming and yelling was just a wow factor for myself and my friend. After the recooks came back we quickly ate and left. Great Drinks food was good after it was recooked but management needs some time off. Remember without the customer your doors will not stay open long. more

Our Personal Favorite Since '92 6/6/2011

My wife and I quickly discovered Vinnie's when we moved to Raleigh in 1992. Many fantastic restaurants have populated the Triangle since then, several of which we also enjoy very much, but Vinnie's remains our hands-down favorite place for dining out. We've never had anything less than flawless service, love the bar and the warm, Old World ambiance. Whether in the mood for steak, seafood or Italian we have never had less than an exceptional dining experience. Vinnie's also has an excellent wine menu with quality offerings ranging from very good, yet affordable to amazing, but at reserved-for-special-occasion prices. Yes, you can easily run up a large tab at Vinnie's because you'll be enticed by their specials and higher-priced menu items, but if you're on a bit of a budget you can choose something like their Veal Saltimbocca which is not only very affordable, but also the best I've had anywhere. Don't miss their Spinach Salad and definitely try the Veal Chop special when on offer......oh and the Blue Point Oysters.....and their..........you get the idea! Even their table bread is fantastic! Highly Recommended!! more

Great Steaks 12/19/2010

We went there for the first time on my birthday. We originally had wanted to go to Angus Barn as we have never been and have heard great things. However, they were booked up a week in advance so I looked for other nice steakhouses in Raleigh and just happened on this. I had never heard of Vinnie's. Glad we found found it. A very good restaurant. I had the smaller portion of ribeye and my wife had the smaller portion of prime rib. Both were generous portions and very tasty, probably one of the better steaks I have ever had. We got salads and baked potatoes and both were huges and delicious. One of the best side salads I have ever tasted at a restaurant. The prices are not inexpensive but it is a nice steakhouse so you do have to pay. While we won't be regulars, we plan on coming back for special occassions. more

Great place for a work party! 11/26/2010

From the moment I walked in the door at Vinnie's, I felt like I was at my own house but with better food and a bigger kitchen :) I recently reserved a private room (no fee) for a work party and it worked out perfectly. It was a great space, great service, and amazing food. I can't wait to reserve a room again for next year! more

Amazing Wine Flight 4/9/2010

My wife and I recently had the opportunity to dine at Vinnie's for our anniversary. I decided on Vinnie?s for the ""Best Place for Special Occasions"" award it received from Metro Bravo magazine. I am so surprised that I haven't heard more about this hidden gem in North Raleigh! We were more than impressed. We were seated immediately at a table that had already been reserved for us, per our reservation. It was an incredibly quiet table by a fireplace and my wife assumed that I had requested something romantic for her! (Thanks management) Our incredibly friendly and knowledgeable waitress then informed us that there was a three course wine tasting flight being offered that evening, as it was a Wednesday. Each course was expertly prepared and the wine pairings were perfect! Each course was described in detail as it was being delivered and our waitress new EVERYTHING about the wines... the vintage, viticultural area, and varietal compositions! We felt like we were the only diners in the restaurant and that the meal had been prepared specifically for us. The blue point oysters that began our dinner were delicious, and each course of our meal was mouthwatering. Our favorite dish was the second course; a duck confit and gorgonzola ravioli that was served over butter-melted leeks! If our meal was this amazing with dishes that are original each week, I can't wait to try the steaks that they are known for! We recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an incredible dining experience. Pros: Incredible Service, Amazing Dinner Cons: I didn't hear about Vinnie's earlier more

Best Steak in Town 1/28/2010

It has been some time since I last went to Vinnie's. More often than not when I am out for steaks I find my way to the Angus Barn. But I had a client in from out of town that was staying nearby so I decided to head back to Vinnie's. My mistake for being gone so long. I must have forgotten how great the food is here. Our server convinced us to have the Dry Aged Ribeye. This is possibly the best steak I have EVER had. At the very least it is the best steak I have had in quite some time. Prepared perfectly. The sides were not so large that my client and I could only split one which was a nice change from most other steakhouses that only have massive sides large enough for four people. Great atmosphere with an excellent wine list. I will definitely be back. Pros: Great Atmosphere more

Favorite restaurant in Raleigh 3/26/2009

What a fantastic restaurant! 2/21/2009

While visiting friends, they recomended Vinnies and we were not disappointed. The steaks were cooked to perfection. The asparagus was wonderfully fresh. I can't say enough. We had a wonderful waitress. I think her name was Anna. The wine she recomended was a perfect match to our dinner. Her service was outstanding. When in Raleigh again, we will surely be back to Vinnies. more

BEST STEAKS WE'VE EVER HAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1/12/2009

We entered Vinnie's one Saturday evening not knowing what to expect. My husband and I have known of it's location off of Six Forks for sometime and we felt we owed ourselves after a hard day of remodeling the house. We were greeted by a sweet young hostess who sat us immediately without a reservation. I think we came in at the right time because the place was packed!! Our server, Carlie (I think), came right up to our table and in a very elegant voice, asked us if we would like to start the evening with a glass a wine, cocktail or cold beer. My husband got a few beers (of course), and I had drank the Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay, which Carlie recommended when I mentioned I liked chards. After giving us a moment to get settled and letting us have a few sips of our drinks, Carlie came back and mentioned that every Friday and Saturday, Vinnie's has PRIME RIB! WE LOVE PRIME RIB! Both my husband and I ordered it. Him the larger cut and I the smaller cut. It was perfect!!!! Both of us got it Medium Rare!!!!!!! Because the server seem to know what she was doing, we took her advice on choosing our sides and we're glad she did. Vinnie's was featuring a Homemade Gruyere Mac and Cheese. THE BEST MAC N CHZ I've ever had, hands down! The end of the night was topped off with a Godiva Chocolate Cake and two Cappuccinos. We're not much of a Cappuccino crowd but our server mentioned they had recently acquired a new Capp Machine and that you're not gonna get a better Italian Style Cappuccino in any other fine dining Restuarant in Raleigh. We are not the type of people to leave reviews online but my husband and I were just blown away!!! My napkin was folded when I came back from the restroom, the manager came by while eating our entrees and greeted us with a very warm smile and it seemed that everyone was enjoying themselves, customers and staff! I could go on about all the little things that impressed me but then this review would be pages long. Thank you Vinnie's! Pros: Cozy, Excellent Food, Excellent Service, Well taken care of, treated like regulars!!!!!!!! more

Superior Quality, Food and Service 12/22/2008

Worst Steak Experience Ever...Ruined Anniversary 12/4/2008

How could you go wrong when planning a wonderful dining experience to celebrate your anniversary? I'd have to say choosing Vinnie's is the worst mistake we've ever made. First of all, my choice of steak has always been a ribeye. I thought seriously about ordering the 'Cowboy' (32 oz bone-in ribeye for $50) but the waiter insisted the best ribeye was the 20 oz prime aged Delmonico (also $50). I went with the waiters recommendation and ordered the steak 'medium'. The meal was brought out and to nmy dismay, I received a charred 'NY Strip' not the ribeye I ordered. The waiter apoligized and said he made a ordering mistake and that it would take 25 minutes to cook the steak I originally ordered. By the time I received my steak, my wife had completed her entire meal. I had to literally saw through the steak as the outside was charred. The only area of steak remotely close to medium was the very center. Not only was the steak charred, it was the worst ribeye I have ever tasted (outside charred, no flavor, no marbling and probably not an aged Delmonico ribeye). When you pay top $$$ for a steak it should be cooked close to perfection and it should not require seasoning. To top things off, the Manager (Will) had an attitude and tried to say there was nothing wrong with neither of the two steaks (the first of which I did not order to begin with). As a courtesy, he should have comped my wife's meal but said he would only give us a free dessert (remember I never got a meal). Needless to say, this is the first and last time my wife and I will ever eat at this restaurant. We highly recommend that you avoid this yourself. Pros: waiter was nice; appetizer and salad dressing was awesome Cons: manager was rude and condescending more

Overall EXCELLENT!!! 11/20/2008

We decided last minute to find an elegant place for dinner. Vinnie's was our first choice because of it's convenient location in North Raleigh. Vinnie's was very busy but the hostess ensured us there was room. After we were promptly seated, a handsome young gentleman buy the name of Constantine flawlessly spoke to us of the night's features and his recommendations. We both had the surf and turf, which was out of this world, and complemented the meal with a bottle of red wine. We had to skip dessert because we were so full and just sat back and soaked in charming atmosphere. Pros: Excellent wine selection!! Steaks on point!!!!!! more

Overall great experience 10/28/2008

I had the chance to dine at Vinnie's when I was moving into the area. The staff was great--everyone was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. We started with the calamari, then my mother and I split a steak oscar while my father had a prime new york strip, and we finished the night off with a creme brulee. The only thing I could have asked for differently was my own steak instead of splitting one! I would recommend Vinnie's to anyone looking for a great dining experience and a delicious meal. more

Wonderful Restaurant! 10/27/2008

My husband and I are always trying different locally owned restaurants. Our newest ""find"" is Vinnie's Steak House. We had a wonderful experience from the moment we walked through the door. The staff greated us as if we were regulars who had been coming for years. Our waiter took the time to tell us the evening specials and offered some great wine choices. My husband ordered the prime new york strip. He said it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. I ordered the steak oscar which was amazing and certainly not lacking in the crab meat department! We each ordered a broiled lobster tail with our meal. A better decision could not have been made. Each of our lobster tails were succulent. Pros: Service, wine, steak, lobster.... Cons: That I can't go everynight. more

By far the best steakhouse in Raleigh! 10/22/2008

I have heard about Vinnie's from many of my colleagues and decided to take my wife for our anniversary. We started out our evening at the bar for a few martinis, which our bartender Steve made to perfection. He was extremely entertaining, and it was obvious that he has many regulars who appreciate his cocktails and wonderful service. When we were ready, we opted for the outside seating. Even though it was a chilly night, they have heaters outside, which made for a cozy, romantic dinner. Our server, Jeap, was such a pleasure. Not only did he give us wonderful recommendations, he was very educated and passionate about the wine and food. The appetizers were outstanding! I highly recommend the sesame crusted Ahi tuna. The steak selection was exactly what I would look for in a steak house. I chose my server's recommendation, the bone in filet, and it was the best steak I have tasted. My wife was in the mood for Italian and she chose the Chicken Picatta. Phenomenal! Jeap informed us that Vinnie's regularly has featured soups, entrees, and sides, and we chose the fresh green bean casserole. I have never had a tastier green bean casserole in my life! After we finished our meal, Jeap surprised us with a lovely creme brulee with fresh berries for our anniversary. They obviously communicate well amongst the staff, because we never even told our server that we were celebrating. The quality of the food and friendliness of the staff has made my wife and I new regulars at this wonderful establishment. Pros: Amazing food and wine selection as well as excellent service more
