Average at Best 2/27/2008

Over the last few years I have heard a lot of good things about Vinnies Steakhouse and Tavern. I and a friend decieded to give them a try. Pros: The atmosphere is very nice Cons: Smoke at the bar is offensive as one has to pass through it more

The very worst I have experience in dining 2/26/2008

Thank you for allowing me to respond. We dined at Vinnie's on Feb 26, 2008, made reservations for 7 and seated at 7....due to heavy cigar smokers, they kept opening the door for ventilation and it was raining and cold and we both got very cold and they never once asked if we would like to be reseated, in fact set us in an ""out of the way table"". We waited for quite a while before the server came by and did not greet us and was certainly very unfriendly. The food was very bad, it may have been the worst calamari have ever eaten. The broccoli was like eating shoe leather and the steak poor (petite Delmonico)..........I can assure you we will never set foot in this place and will certainly not recommend it to anyone. I paid the bill and even left the server a very nice gratutiy. Cons: Everything more

The Best! 12/17/2007

You want the best, this is the place. I have been to Mortons, Ruths Chriss, Angus Barn, Palms, S&W NY, Sparks multiple times and none of them compare to the Steaks that Vinnies have. Well only one Charlys Steakhous in Tampa, but a tie for 1st. Anyone that knows anything about steaks will agree. If your cheap like the other complainers, theres always a outback :) more

BETTER THAN EVER AND BETTER THAN THE REST 2/13/2007

Vinnies Steakhouse brings me back to the good old days back home in New York with a warm and comfortable feel! The staff is friendly and assertive. Myself and a lady friend of mine decided to dine at Vinnies for our first time and had a great experience. I ordered the steak and lobster special not only was the steak cooked better than I could have expected but it also was the most tender cut of meet I have ever had then on the other hand I don't know what kind of lobster tails they are serving but it was hands down the best tail in the triangle. My lady friend had the Tuna entree which was by far the best Tuna I have had outside of being at the beach. Vinnies has everything you could ever want out of a high dollar restaurant. I would reccomend it to anyone looking for great service and great food. In my eyes hands down the best food and service in the triangle. I will become a regular customer. They also have a great wine list and a very attentive management team. I had two different managers walk by and ask about our meal. I feel like everyone in this restaurant is almost like family. Pros: great food/service/ambience Cons: not enough room in my stomach more

Overpriced 11/11/2006

We went for the steak but noticed everyone around us was ordering Italian. THe steaks were way overpriced. This is a nice neighborhood hangout. And probably good for their lower end items. I wouldn't recommend it for the higher end items. The atmosphere, service, and food quality don't merit the prices. more

ALL around GREAT 10/10/2006

This place is one of a kind! You can't get great food, friendly service, and elegant dining in such a fun atmosphere anywhere else. It is impossible to describe. Everyone makes you feel so welcome and you can tell that the place is like one big family. The food is great, have not had one bad thing. As an app, I recommend shrimp cocktail. But no matter what you order you can't go wrong. The wine list is like a book, accomodating everyone tastes. I do, however, recommend making reservations because there are times i've been in there when they are big parties in all of the back rooms and have limited seating. And around the holidays they seem to be kind of busy so calling ahead would definately be a good idea. Pros: everything. Cons: nothing. more

Overpriced Waste of Time!!! 9/27/2006

I ordered the 38 ounce Porterhouse and just before I was about to be served, I was informed that they didn't even have it... could they bring me the New York Strip they had cooked in it's place instead!!!! My wife ordered Eggplant Parmesan..... I wouldn't serve this to a starving dog. Apparently, the management at Vinnie's thinks they can just get away with serving average food at ridiculous prices, because that's exactly what they are doing. How dumb do they think we are? $58 dollars for a plain steak with no salad or starch? When the manager finally stopped hitting on his own hostess and came by our table to ask how our meal was, he acted as crass as could be, insinuating that we were naive to the ""wonderful"" dining experience he was providing, and offered nothing in return for serving 2 mishaps as excuses for entrees. If you are looking for a genuine dining experience at less than ridiculous prices, look elsewhere... you might just find accurate vintages on a wine list and a General Manager who is concerned about the loins in the kitchen instead of those on the hostess! Pros: You will smell like a cigar when you leave Cons: Food, Atmosphere, & Management more

Vinnie's - A great choice for steaks and fun 4/14/2006

I went to Vinnie's for the first time in years, and I enjoyed it. I especially like the atmosphere and the ""neighborhood"" feel. For the apetizer, we had Steamed Big thick oysters with cocktail sauce, horseradish, texas Pete, and Tobasco Sauce. The Steak I had was an on the bone thick cut. It was cooked perfectly. Everything at Vinnies is ordered ""a la carte"", so it tends to become fairly expensive. But who wants a steak without a salad and baked or stuffed potatoe. The winelist is impressive, but there again, your credit card can get declined if you aren't careful. Overall I would rate Vinnie's as one of the best steakhouses in Raleigh. Whether it stacks up with the Angus Barn and the like depends on the night, I suppose, but I think Vinnie's is probably a safe bet for a good meal and an entertaining evening. Pros: Steaks, Location, Atmosphere Cons: A La Carte, Price more

growing better each day 3/26/2006

Vinnies has a great revamped menu and a wonderful friendly staff! From the hostess to the managers, there is a smile on every face! The food is cooked perfectly, presented with class and delivered by knowledgable staff that really make the meal enjoyable. I love the ahi tuna, and the ever famous oscar style steak. Last time I was there they had added new wines, steaks and seafoods to the menu that are not items you would find in many other Raleigh resteraunts. The familiar faces, and the at home feeling really sets the place apart from other venues in Raleigh, I would go no where else with my parties, loved ones or guests of honor because Vinnie's can- do attitude takes the cake! Pros: friendly Staff, Oscar steaks, Creme Brulee!! more

Great food! 3/9/2006

We just ate here last week for the first time in a while. The steak oscar was fabulous and I highly recommend it. Great atmosphere... Be sure to try the cottage fries, they're great too. more

incredible steaks!!! 2/24/2006

We have been going to Vinnie's fairly regularly for about 2 1/2 years. The owner, manager, and bartender know us now, and are always welcoming. A newer manager and hostess greeted us the minute we walked in and seated us promptly after we had a cocktail at the bar. The calimari is incredible- light, almost tempura batter, always served hot. Tonight was the very best filet mignon I have ever had, and I have had quite a few! Melt in your mouth tender, perfect MR, just the best. My husband had a great Prime rib, also MR. Great au jus and horseradish sauce. The waitress, Allie, was wonderful, food was all served at correct time, and everyone is friendly. The prices are in linewith any good steak house, chain or otherwise. I think it is better, steak wise, than another well known Raleigh steak house. Pros: atmosphere, food, bartender more

There's better places in Raleigh 1/17/2006

We were there New Years Eve night for dinner. Service from the waitress was well below average ... she'd be average at Applebee's. ""Manager"" was not polite to us regarding a constant clicking noise coming from the wall. Steak/food was good. There was no live entertainment while we were there. Pros: food Cons: service, value more

Overall, very enjoyable 9/30/2005

I went to Vinnie's for the first time tonight after having it suggested to me over 5 years ago. The food was excellent: the steak was perfect, the oysters Rockefeller were wonderful and the seared tuna was to die for. My only disappointment was the hollandaise sauce. It was more like a butter sauce, perhaps from a mix. At a restaurant of this caliber I expect the hollandaise to be well made. I wouldn't waste my money on the 'Oscar'. Otherwise it was an excellent meal. It was a Friday night and we didn't have a reservation but were still seated promtly. Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Parking Cons: Expensive more

Big Time Menu, Bush League Attitude 8/16/2005

For starters, the manager wanted to argue with me about a typo on the wine list. There was a $13 descrepancy in the customers favor. Big deal, serve me, fix the problem and move on. Well he did. He charged me the original price, deducted the $13 and then stuck it to me with extra charges elsewhere. We ordered from the full column, which included a salad and a side, but were charged for the ala carte. They even over charged us on the ala carte. Not to mention that I had just spent over $600 on dinner with customers two weeks earlier. It's not the $20 that they worked me over for, it's the principle. I'll choose to spend my money elsewhere in the future. If you are not a regular, don't expect too much attention, but you still have to pay for the $250 meal. Pros: North Raleigh, Walk in dining, good spinach sald Cons: Bush League Manager, Overpriced, avg service more

Our 2nd honeymoon dinner! 6/6/2005

First time at Vinnies, and it was the most amazing experience since our wedding night dinner, last February, in a private room at Harrahs casino at Lake Tahoe. Coincidentally, last night was our first date since Feb, our wedding. The first day of our honeymoon, I landed wrong and tore my knee up. Since February, my excitement has been PT visits and visits with my MD. I haven't had any fun, until this weekend. The staff was amazing! I think her name was Elaine, she said they are a ""yes"" kitchen. Anything we would want, they could make happen. The FOOD was fantastic! WOW! The music started, excpecting it to be a cd, I turned around and Carmine was singing Frank Sinatra/michael buble . He was the coolest. WE will be back ! Thank you Pros: live music/ love it, waiting staff/all, food!!! more

Great Food 3/12/2004

One of the best places restaurants in the Triangle to Network, Vinnie's is not inexpensive. Bring your appetite and your wallet. Pros: excellent food, good service, choice & selection Cons: , pricey more

Customer for 5 years 3/7/2004

The most consistent well done steaks I have ever had. The Filet Mignon is great especially with a SOuth African lobster tail. The lobster is not overcooked an excellent. Any of the steaks that are Oscar'd are also exceptional. more

High Expectations 3/24/2003

A friend referred me to this place. My wife and I just moved in the area and love to eat at romantic places. My steak was pretty good but we didn't like the surroundings, and I felt we didn't get the attention we deserved. We won't come back until there are changes made. Pros: quiet Cons: small, low attention, atmosphere more

good fellas 1/20/2003

Vinnie's is the best hometown restaurant in the triangle. The menu has changed slightly, but what they removed I wouldn't eat anyway. I understand that they are under new ownership that are committed to making Vinnie's what it was back in the old days. If you haven't been to Vinnie's or you haven't given it a second chance you are missing out. more

Too Bad! 1/15/2003

After enjoying Vinnie's for a number of years we chose to dine there this past weekend. The menu had changed, the food quality not what we remember and the service poor. It was a wonderful place to eat and we are truly saddened that there were changes made to what was once a very successful business. We were there for 2 and a half hours and there weren't a dozen customers on a Saturday night. Looks like others feel the same way. more
