\r Awesome dinner at this ""must go"" restaurant. Unusual, fresh food and terrific ambiance. A Philly treasure!

Extremely Overrated 5/8/2005

A Zagat 27 means something very different in Philly than in NYC - this is an absolutely unrepresentative rating for this particular restaurant - our salads were bland, our fish mediocre and everything overpriced. The service was very good as was the wine selection but if this is the best italian that this city has to offer, there is an astonishing amount of room for improvement. I was extremely dissapointed with my meal after readying all of the hype with this restaurant. Save your money and go elsewhere. Furthermore, this restaurant is not particularly romantic in any way - we were seated opposite a slab of pork and an espresso machine - and there are only 12 tables or so, so there's not much room if you don't want a pig extremity in your face while you're trying to woo your sweetie. . . Pros: Wine List, Service Cons: Overpriced, Mediocre Food more

Superb in every way! 2/11/2004

finally got a chance to experience Vetri recently and regret only having not gone there sooner! Had heard so many superlatives over the years that i really was afraid i'd be disappointed but instead was totally blown away! Recommend the chef's tasting menu for first timers-you get a lot of awesome food and a really great variety of tastes and textures. Trust Jeffrey to choose your wines by the glass for each course and i promise you'll be amazed at his skills-nearly perfect rustic Italian with wonderful staff and atmosphere-Do Not Miss! Marc Vetri, my compliments!! Pros: Nearly perfect food, Great wine list, Wonderful staff more

always a great experience 10/11/2003

The staff does whatever it takes to give you a great experience. the wine steward was very helpful each time, service was great, and the food was unbelievable! Amazing 9/11/2003

A friend took me last night for my birthday and it was a true experience. Everything we ate was exquisite. Onion crepe and gnocchi melted in our mouths. Two appetizers, two gnocchi, a shared dessert and one glass of wine was $80 without tip... really not bad considering the quality. Yes, portions were a bit on the small side, but we were completely satisfied. Would definitely return and highly recommend. Pros: amazing food more

Exquisite 6/3/2003

My wife and I went last night to celebrate our first anniversary. Went with the five course tasting menu, which was spectacular except for the dessert course, which took a while to come and then just didn't live up to the distinctive, rich, tastes of the other four courses. Spring fava beans-unbelievable. Onion crepe in white truffle fondue-scrumptious. Gnocchi stuffed w/ bone marrow and served w/ morels-luxurious. Turbot on a crisp potato pancake w/ tomatoes (and no olives at my request)-delicate and flavorful. Sommelier did a terrific job at paring wines by the glass for a reasonable price. A memorable evening and the best meal I've had in a long, long time. Pros: Terrific staff, Wonderful food, Great wine selection Cons: Deserts not as strong, Tight quarters more

Overrated!!! 8/14/2002

What is the big hype about this place? The food was ""mediocre"" at best. The entire experience, from appetizer to dessert. Try ""La Famiglia"" nearby, that's a dining experience to rave about. It was my husband's birthday, they managed to screwup bringing out his dessert w/ candle. I only called twice prior to make sure they were aware. We wo'nt make the trip here again. ""Overrated by ""Zagat's"" also. This place does'nt hold a candle to N.Y. resturants, that know authentic Italian fare. Pros: intimate Cons: cramped, overpriced, stuffy more

Imperfect but good 8/13/2002

The food was excellent, but I could have commented on the next table's conversation, we were so close. I hate that! Also, the portions were a bit small. I was hungry later that evening. I also found the desserts uninspired. Pros: Gnocchi - TO DIE FOR! Cons: very small space. more

For Special Occassions 7/26/2002

Vetri is my favorite ""special occassion"" restaurant. It is romantic and cozy, and has that wonderful European feel. The food is exceptional. Hats off to Marc Vetri. We had to wait 2 months to get in on a Saturday night. Bring lots of $$$$ - it's worth it! Pros: excellent food, beautiful room, great service Cons: Hard to get a reserva, Very expensive more

I hope the owner reads these reviews 7/25/2002

While I enjoyed our meal (especially the prosciutto and the gnocci), I have to say that I will probably never come back. I appreciate the fact that the restaurant is small and popular but we had a very difficult time getting reservations only to find out that the table next to us called that afternoon. Pros: gnocci, prosciutto Cons: crowded, difficult reservation, expensive more

Just Go 7/23/2002

Very Expensive and worth every penny (dollar !) Go for the tasting menu and just let them know what you DON'T like - then sit back and have a fantastic experience. more
