Great emergency staff, but avoid Dr. Hillock if you use this vet's internal medicine services. I found him to be condescending and generally disinterested in my very sick pet's health. He ignored my input on my pet (bloodwork later proved me right) and I'm sure she would've lived longer had a better doctor cared for her. I expect more from a vet hospital like this, particularly one that is so expensive. more

VMCLI 3/19/2013

If you have a couple of minutes, read on & I hope you find this helpful.\r \r Hopefully you will never need the services of a veterinary specialty clinic / 24 hr emergency hospital, but in the event you do, there is only one such place I would recommend, (highly recommend), based on many years of experience -- Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island (VMCLI) in West Islip, NY. \r \r My 1st visit to VMCLI was thru emergency in 2006. Since then I have had to go back on numerous occasions--time and again one of my cats has had a medical crisis outside the scope of regular veterinary medicine: severe asthma, pancreatic cysts, laryngeal mass (very rare cancer, no other feline case studies), nerve sheath tumor (post surgery complications, transferred over to VMCLI), dental disease, nasopharyngeal stenosis, and the list goes on..... And, each time I go to VMCLI and each time I leave, I am so grateful to the Doctors and Technicians for the outstanding medical care and attention they consistently more

I brought my dog here on emergency for severe bleeding. The front desk staff was very courteous and they got me in right away to see Dr. Hillock, the internal medicine specialist. After performing some tests, it was determined that my dog was in need of medication, blood transfusion, and treatment in the hospital which was five star. Dr. Hillock was very knowledgable and provided a realistic approach for my dog. Without the care of the doctors and staff, my dog definitely would have died and I am forever grateful for their care and compassion. The cost for treatment here is not cheap, but you pay for the knowledge and service that is provided. more

Be afraid, be very afraid 1/18/2012

I brought my sick cat, in looking for a diagnosis and treatment. Sadly, while I have experienced incompetence, I was not prepared for the indifference, which is worse. It could have cost me my cat. With a temperature of over 105 degrees, Kirby completely stopped eating .They gave her tests for viruses. These results were essential for treatment. Well, those results never came. I called several times and was put off. On Friday, when I finally go through to a doctor, we had a strange, really strange, 90 second phone call, where he wouldn?t answer any questions. He just told me to wait for the results, he would not respond to the question, ?How long?? Pros: null Cons: null more

THEY SAVED MY PETS LIFE, THEY WERE INCREDIBLE & COMPASSIONATE 4/4/2011

This facility without a doubt saved my pets life after a traumatic fall in my home. My pet had an underlying medical condition that caused him to become weak and stumble. After being seen by ER and stabilized, he was transferred to Internal Medicine. The facility and its staff are so caring and compassionate and truly understood what I was going through. They were in touch with me every day with progress reports and encouraged me to visit and spend time with my pet. The fees were reasonable for the level of care my pets life. I HIGHLY recommend them for any emergency or veterinary specialty service needed. more

Avoid if you can. 3/2/2011

Utilized this facility for urgent care of pet over weekend while our vet was away.Facility seemed nice. While pricing was five star, care was marginally adequate. Three day hospital stay, got to speak with internist managing case zero times. The only call back received was from staff when low end estimates were expiring...,...This place is dollar driven first.....care second....If reading this be mindful and hopefully choose a different facility than I did if you have a choice. more

Dr. Lang saved my kittens life! 11/7/2010

I can not even begin to tell you how Dr. Lang saved my kitten's life. Not only was she patient, undetrstanding, and honest about the situation, but she saved my 3 lb kittens life at the time. She was so dedicated and still is and while she worked her ass off to go to school and probably has her own medical loans to pay for, she is about saving lives for her cats and dogs and not about the money making. The office staff are wonderful and I have had to bring my kitten there on several emrgencies in the middle of the night and I also highly recommend Dr. Howe as she is also amazing. It's very clean and they even have a kerrig coffee machine! I live 5 minutes from the selden animal hospital and while they have been helpful at times, the wait is hours and the doctors are not as good! more

Thank you Dr. Lang 9/29/2010

Dr. Lang was wonderful and caring. My dog was there for surgery to remove a gland and a mass. They took excellent care of her.\r Expensive, yes. Have your credit card handy! \r But, I suppose that's the price you pay for specialists who really know their stuff. This place is run better than some of the hospitals for humans that I have seen. It's clean and they are experts in their field. more

The doctor's and staff are wonderful. 7/16/2010

I have made numerous trips to the VMCL and everytime I have had a great experience. My dog has epilepsy and is treat by Dr. Barone & Dr. William's. They are always available to answer any questions. They always treat our dog right away and we are never left waiting. My dog has also been treated by several other doctor's there, each one is nicer then the last. more

Good, but expensive 10/12/2009

They are very good with animals. Very clean and modern Facility. They took very good care of my cat and they treated her like one of their own. The wait was not long for a Sunday emergency. However, when I got the bill I almost needed to go to the emergency room. more

Amazing Emergency Care 8/13/2009

I couldn't disagree with the other reviewer more. I brought my dog there after seizure in the middle of the night. I had no idea what was wrong or what to do the vets there were kind, professional, and took great care of my dog till I could get him to my vet in the morning. I was so pleased with them when a friend had an emergency with her dog I didn't hesitate to recommend this group for emergency care..they were equally pleased and this group saved their dogs life. more
