Great emergency staff, but avoid Dr. Hillock if you use this vet's internal medicine services. I found him to be condescending and generally disinterested in my very sick pet's he...

Dr. Lang was wonderful and caring. My dog was there for surgery to remove a gland and a mass. They took excellent care of her. \r Expensive, yes. Have your credit card handy! \r But, I suppose that's the price you pay for specialists who really know their stuff. This place is run better than some of the hospitals for humans that I have seen. It's clean and they are experts in their field. more

They are very good with animals. Very clean and modern Facility. They took very good care of my cat and they treated her like one of their own. The wait was not long for a Sunday emergency. more

I can not even begin to tell you how Dr. Lang saved my kitten's life. Not only was she patient, undetrstanding, and honest about the situation, but she saved my 3 lb kittens life at the time. She was so dedicated and still is and while she worked to go to school and probably has her own medical loans to pay for, she is about saving lives for her cats and dogs and not about the money making. The office staff are wonderful and I have had to bring my kitten there on several emrgencies in the middle of the night and I also highly recommend Dr. Howe as she is also amazing. It's very clean and they even have a kerrig coffee machine! I live 5 minutes from the selden animal hospital and while they have been helpful at times, the wait is hours and the doctors are not as good! more

This facility without a doubt saved my pets life after a traumatic fall in my home. My pet had an underlying medical condition that caused him to become weak and stumble. After being seen by ER and stabilized, he was transferred to Internal Medicine. The facility and its staff are so caring and compassionate and truly understood what I was going through. They were in touch with me every day with progress reports and encouraged me to visit and spend time with my pet. The fees were reasonable for the level of care my pets life. I HIGHLY recommend them for any emergency or veterinary specialty service needed. more

I brought my dog here on emergency for severe bleeding. The front desk staff was very courteous and they got me in right away to see Dr. Hillock, the internal medicine specialist. After performing some tests, it was determined that my dog was in need of medication, blood transfusion, and treatment in the hospital which was five star. Dr. Hillock was very knowledgable and provided a realistic approach for my dog. Without the care of the doctors and staff, my dog definitely would have died and I am forever grateful for their care and compassion. The cost for treatment here is not cheap, but you pay for the knowledge and service that is provided. more

If you have a couple of minutes, read on & I hope you find this helpful.\r \r Hopefully you will never need the services of a veterinary specialty clinic / 24 hr emergency hospital, but in the event you do, there is only one such place I would recommend, (highly recommend), based on many years of experience -- Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island (VMCLI) in West Islip, NY. \r \r My 1st visit to VMCLI was thru emergency in 2006. Since then I have had to go back on numerous occasions--time and again one of my cats has had a medical crisis outside the scope of regular veterinary medicine: severe asthma, pancreatic cysts, laryngeal mass (very rare cancer, no other feline case studies), nerve sheath tumor (post surgery complications, transferred over to VMCLI), dental disease, nasopharyngeal stenosis, and the list goes on..... And, each time I go to VMCLI and each time I leave, I am so grateful to the Doctors and Technicians for the outstanding medical care and attention they consistently provide. VMCLI has an exceptional team of Specialists/Doctors under one roof: Internal Medicine, Dr. Fondacaro; Oncology, Dr. Brodsky; I could go on for days about the wonderful care, patience and compassion both these Doctors have shown. In addition: Surgery, Dr. Herndon and Dr. Puccio; Internal Medicine, Dr. Hillock; Dentistry, Dr. Carmichael, and the ER Drs. & Interns. The Technicians in Internal Medicine, Oncology, and ER are fantastic as well. I've come to refer to this special group of Doctors and Technicians as the Dream Team.\r \r I also want to mention the non-medical staff. Each visit begins and ends with the front desk/reception area. They are (generally) responsible for first impressions, which are key for any practice. The front desk/reception staff at VMCLI is a wonderful group, always professional, attentive, personable, and understanding. No matter how stressful the nature of the appointment, in addition to the Doctors and Technicians, the front desk staff is also there to provide you with some measure of comfort. It's nice to see the familiar faces throughout all the years I've been a client; I'm grateful to each of them as well.\r \r They're the ""Best of the Best"".\r \r ps: I have been to a couple of other 24 hr. emergency / specialty hospitals on LI, and suffice it to say (for me) this is the hospital I come back to. more

Dr Brodsky is currently seeing my cat for lymphoma. I've been many many places with my cat through out this horrible situation and have never seen such amazing service and genuine care. I've come here multiple times already and have yet to see someone that wasn't extremely friendly and kind. Everyone has a great attitude and while my cat isn't ever happy to go to the vet, he is the most comfortable here and it's no surprise considering the love and affection the staff shows to the animals. It isn't the cheapest place but you are paying for a state of the art facility and doctors who are at the top of their field. My Tyler was on his last leg when I brought him here and has since been responding very well to treatment and is back to his normal self for now. I would whole heartedly recommend Dr Brodsky for anyone in a similar situation in need of an exceptional veterinary oncologist. more

This hospital is absolutely stunning. \r \r I recently came here for the event for Joey the Brentwood Dog. It was a rainy day but they were prepared by setting up tents outside with hot cocoa and such. We had to briefly go inside to pay our donation. The inside is gorgeous. It resembles the waiting room of an actual hospital but nicer. \r \r The staff is extremely friendly, as well. I would definitely bring my animals here, in case of emergency, but luckily we have the Nassau version of this hospital closer to us. more

While going to the emergency vet is never a great thing, I can not say enough kind words for VMCLI!! \r I recommend calling if you plan on going in on a emergency basis after midnight, as the front door is locked for everyone's safety. (this was something I noticed during my time there..) \r Last Summer, my eldest cat got really sick, and since he was an indoor cat, he didn't have a regular vet (yes, bad Mommy) but we took him down to VMCLI to be looked at since he was really weak... Turns out, after a round of testing that he had cancer. We didn't know how long my little furball had, but VMCLI made sure to tell me that they were there for us at any time and made us feel comfortable with our situation. \r \r I was also touched by the sweet sympathy card that was mailed to us after the decision to put our little furball to sleep was made. \r Thank you VMCLI for being there for us when we needed you the most!! more

Despite sad times here I have to still give this place a good review. My husband and I were here before our wedding. I came in the middle of June because my cat was unexpectedly sick and had trouble breathing. They took an X-Ray, it turned out she had a tumor no one knew about. They were honest with me they told me it was better to put her to sleep because surgery wouldn't help her at this point and the tumor would grow back anyway. They had lovely rooms in the back where they put animals to sleep. Sadly this place is used to animals dying, lots of people come here as a last resort knowing they could save their pets but it's likely in a bad case they'll have to be put down. \r \r Ten days later I was back here again when my husband's cat was diagnosed with stomach cancer. He made the choice to put her to sleep even though it was painful. Her cancer was so advanced the vets said she would just be lacking energy and all they could do was put on her some pills to decrease her pain. \r \r Both times the staff was really awesome, very concerned and they did the best they could for us despite our losses and pain. I was so upset and crying hysterically over the loss of my cat a few staff members made a point to tell me I did all I could and I was a good cat mommy. \r \r I hope I don't have to be back here for a long time but this is definitely a nice place to say goodbye to your beloved animal if that's what you have to do. more
