They Are Closed 3/23/2009

Nothing, it went out of business! It is no more, it has ceased to be open. It is so very, very closed. Pros: They are closed Cons: They are closed more

TERRIBLE!!! 3/1/2008

The menu is promissing but doesn't deliver in taste. You get the feeling that you are being served the last meal before the doors are locked and the place renamed. The staff seems helpful but stuck trying to sell a bad product. Maybe a change of Chef would do this place some good. Some attention to the upscale cafateria feel to the dining room would do some good too. Pros: Will be out of business soon... Cons: Is still open!!! more

Not ready for the big leagues 2/24/2008

Me and my girl stopped in for happy hour on a Monday and at first glance the restaurant "looked" promising. The service was okay at best I will say she was nice and inviting but not experienced for the prices they boast on their menu. The menu is very French but the food we received was a far cry from fine French cuisine. My girlfriend ordered the coq au vin and if you know what this is then you know that the chicken is braised in red wine. What my girl ate had more in common with chicken soup. I had a Croque madame which is basically a ham and cheese sandwich with a rich bechamel and fried egg. I tasted NO bechamel! which is the true heart of this sandwich. Also serve some house made Mayonnaise with the Pomme Frites it's the only real way to eat them. I have to say all in all I was disappointed with my experience. I think the chef needs to find his passion again and forget his obvious financial woes. Pros: Very nice interior and ambiance Cons: Food, Service, Price more

Good food, horrible service. 2/14/2008

"It looked good on paper" was what the server said to the the table painfully close to us about the Valentine's Day dining experience, and that pretty much summed it up. The multi-course menu did look wonderful, but execution was simply horrible. Two courses were forgotten and had to be requested when what should have been the subsequent course was delivered. One entree was delivered with no explanation of why the other was not provided at the same time (it eventually arrived some 10-20 minutes later). Soup was delivered with no spoon. Bread plates and butter knives were on the table although no bread appeared with any course. For a meal that was between $75-$100 per person, this was a completely unacceptable dining experience. more

Truly fine dining in Vancouver at last 1/4/2008

This is a dining destination equal to anything we have experienced in the NW and much farther afield. Unfortunately it isn't in downtown Portland, or they would have attracted the attention they deserve. The level of service is excellent. The quality of the food is excellent. We are yet another couple that travel to Portland a lot less than we did - there is nothing in Vancouver that comes close to the experiences we have had at Vesta - and we have been everywhere upscale over here multiple times. There isn't much in Portland that comes close either. I have had their lobster bisque four times and each one has been the same as the one before. Their crab and kobe bruschetta duo is a simply perfect appetizer. I had the onion tart last week and it was very original and superb. We enjoy their bread. And desserts. And coffee! Is there anywhere else in the area we can get Sleepy Monk when it isn't go to the beach weather? LOVE this place. Pros: Nice new blinds! No ugly Mill Plain view any more. 5-star food and service. Cons: None at all really more

Best in Vancouver, hands down 1/2/2008

Vesta is exceptional. No longer do my wife and I have to go to Portland for a great meal, we can stay right here in town. I take exception to the New Years Eve post, clearly anyone looking for salt and pepper shakers on their table were in the wrong place, this food is perfection. We frequent Vesta at least once a month if not more and never have we been disappointed. The kitchen is spot on with what the bring out. The servers are attentive and knowledgable. Depending on the amount of business the Chef/Owner Morris comes out to talk to the tables. It is a dining experience and more pleasurable than I've had any where else and I've been all over in my travels.............to find someplace like this in my home town................awesome! Highly recommended to anyone that can appreciate the quality of a fine meal. Pros: Perfect in every way Cons: None more

Poor choice for New Years Eve 1/1/2008

Having made reservations for 7:30pm, our food finally arrived at 9:30pm after my comment about being hungry to the waitress. When the salad arrived, which we were assured would be ample enough to share consisted of 2 bites each of lettuce was almost funny for the price. They finally after over an hour brought stale bread. We both ordered fish, the cod was clearly undercooked, and both fish dishes were tasteless. No salt or pepper on the table to help either. Needless to say, we will not be returning. They were not extremely busy, there were ample cooks and servers, and the owner was on site as well. Unbelievably poor output for the cost. more

Great food, mediocre service 10/21/2007

We had driven by several times, wanting to try Ventas and finally did last night. Great food, great wine but a couple of issues you would not expect at this price point. On walking in the maitre di just stood looking at us until I finally asked for a table, kind of odd I thought. The food was amazing, I had grilled swordfish, my wife the Kobe beef. Also a great wine list., though as mentioned in other posts, rather pricey. The service was acceptable at best, server wasn't sure of all elements of a dish, when asked at the end of the meal did not know the vintage of the wine we were drinking, small things yes but expected at this price point. I have gotten equal service at restaurants at half the price. I guess my feeling is that it was good food and wine, just not worth $60 a person. I also feel their money would be better spent for a sommelier, but thats just my $.02 Pros: Great menu and wine list Cons: ambience, level of service more

Vesta Restaurant and Wine Bar 10/18/2007

We tried Vesta for lunch and were not disappointed. The Maitre d' was old school, attentive without being intrusive, loved to watch him. The food was very good to excellent. Wine selections by the glass were great. The coffee, in a generous cup, was wonderfull. I tried a desert of hot figs with goat cheese icecreme....great pairing of tastes. We will come back for dinner, and are sure that we will enjoy our meal. The room is very large, a bit remeniscent of a cafeteria dressed up with white table cloths, not very intimate or "cozy", also potentially very loud if the place is full. We are thankful to finally have a restaurant in our area which can compete with venues in Portland. I agree with the other reviewer, I also wish people would at least wear shoes and not flip flops! Pros: reception, food, service, parking Cons: large open room without partitions for more intimate seating more

Possibly the worst food in Vancouver 9/27/2007

This was possibly the worst food I've ever had in a restaurant. Period. I've visited every state in this country and I honestly can't recall having worse food, particularly in light of the fact that it cost almost $80 for a meal for 2 people which only included 1 glass of wine. I had the pheasant which was dry and the squash served with it was burned. My companion had pork loin which was beyond dry and the bean dish which accompanied it was virtually inedible. The bread that was served was cold and had obviously been left out too long and the fennel butter was tasteless. The $9 appetizer was chunks of tomato on toast with some salt sprinkled on top. I will say the service was excellent but that simply doesn't make up for the fact that the food was awful. Needless to say I won't be returning. Pros: service was good Cons: food was terrible, prices for wine exhorbitant more

Best Gourmet Fare 9/17/2007

My husband and I went to Vesta for the first time on Friday, Sept. 14th for our wedding anniversary. We enjoyed great service and wonderful food... it is truly a "dining experience". The only negatives in our opinion was the VERY expensive wine/drink prices! Also when I initially made the dinner reservations, I noted that it was our 13th wedding anniversary... and we were disappointed when it was unobserved at the restaurant. All-in-all, we are very glad to have a much needed classy resturant in the area and would definitely go there again. The food and presentations were absolutely awesome! I have to add, though... it is really infuriating, and I do not understand, WHY some people around here wear flip-flops, T-shirts/sweat shirts, tennis shoes to nice venues and establishments?? Dressed like that they should just go to Jack-in-the-Box or McDonalds!! Pros: Delicous Food, Great Service, Romantic Ambience Cons: no "view" more

Excellent food, excellent service - finally real fine dining in Vancouver. 7/26/2007

Four visits, four great nights out. New things to try on the menu every time we have visited. $24 for three courses is a great price for much less than the scallops and duck that were on offer. Soups have been incredible, service is exactly what we always hope for but rarely find. Their staff is very profesional and have obviously been in the industry a while. The kitchen is large and very open. The two main chefs actually work in the kitchen and it shows. One even came out to persuade my friend to have her steak medium rare (promising no red on her plate) instead of well done and she said it was the best she has ever had. They like you to try new things here and it's fun! I had nettle soup once and it tasted great. Excellent food, better than I have experienced in much more expensive places. Good wine list with a great by the glass selection. Support this new restaurant since we badly need it here in Vancouver. Pros: Superb food, great service, fireside tables, private parking Cons: Patio not being used for outside dining more

Excellent dining experience without having to go to Portland 7/21/2007

Excellent food, wonderful service, and a supurb wine selection; all without having to drive to downtown Portland. The only thing that could be slightly better is the location. While it is conveniently located, the building itself and its view leave some to be desired. Pros: Food, service, wine selection Cons: View of nothing more
