Not the best Cuban food 9/11/2008

I went to this restaurant to meet a friend whom I had not seen in years. I had frequented other restaurants of this chain throughout LA and this one is the least favorable. The food tended to be a bit salty, the service was mediocre at best. The ambience lacks substance. I hope people do not get the impression this is an authentic Cuban restaurant experience. Pros: Parking Cons: Service Ambience more

A Cuban Denny's 7/5/2007

We had our first dinner in two years at Versailles a few days ago, and it was a disappointment. Although service was prompt and friendly, the food was surprisingly bland. We had one beef dish (lomo salteado) and one pork dish (lechon asado), but despite plenty of garlic and onion in the descriptions, there just wasn't much flavor. The first bite was a reminder of why we haven't been to Versailles in so long, and I doubt we'll go back. Pros: Good service Cons: Boring food. more

no frill...no thrill 8/6/2005

Being known for finding great restaurants for their value and their taste, my friends were puzzled why I've never been to Versailles before. I've been hearing from my friends about this Cuban restaurant for years but never had a desire to go because I've heard it's very heavy and oily. I do enjoy juicy BBQs and steaks but try not to have too much grease. It seems to stay longer around my stomach than let's say...sushi. My friend and I ordered the seafood combo and the chicken and the pork combo. The rotisserie chicken was good but the pork was pretty sour for my taste. The seafoods were fresh with alot of garlic and oil. I thought fishes were swimming in the garlic oil sauce. The presentation wasn't that appealing and fish didn't have much fresh natural taste because of the overwelming garlic sauce..way too strong for my taste. more

The waiters must be sick of chicken 7/22/2004

So much of that garlic chicken passes in and out of the kitchen. It's a generous portion, too-- Believe me, you won't come away hungry. This is not to say the other portions are small. Most everything else will rate doggie bags as well. Try arroz con pollo, either of the roast pork dishes, marinated Cuban steaks, breaded or served with the ubiquitous mojo, seafood with garlic sauce. About the only thing which isn't huge-- but is darned tasty-- is shrimp in garlic sauce. I like Versailles, but sure wish they'd be more consistent with the plátanos maduros. Sometimes, they're soft, sweet are caramelized, other times they're bland and dry. Still in all, it's good food. A few underripe plantains now and then won't keep me away. Pros: Huge menu, Huge portions, Garlic chicken more

Best Cuban Food In Town 3/25/2004

Versailles is definitely hands down the best cuban food in the Los Angeles area. I particulary love the Manhattan beach location better than it's original location on Venice. Everyone there is very courteous, helpful and extremely friendly. My favorite dish is the Pollo Asada (Roasted Garlic Chicken). It is marinated and cooked in a very mouth watering citrus/garlic sauce garnished with onions and served with perfectly cooked black beans and rice. Almost everytime that I have been there the chicken has been very flavorful and juicy, but once in awhile it can be dry. If this is the case, order a side of garlic sauce and you are all set to go! If you like seafood YOU MUST try the Mussells which are baked with garlic and the popular garlic sauce. They are to die for! Wash all of this down with the cuban soda Iron Beer! more
