!Viva Versailles! - el MEJOR restaurante cubano en Miami 7/2/2007

I was visiting Miami on a budget and thought I would try Versailles based on all the rave reviews I had read about it. This restaurant knows what service is!! Being from Tennessee, it was refreshing to feel a certain level of 'southern hospitality' that is non-existent in the rest of Miami. The waiters and waitresses are attentive and polite, and the food is a cross between an old-fashioned cafeteria and a ""meat & three""... with a heavy Latino/Cuban flare. The menu is longer than most people would even be willing to read, with an endless combination of ""platos del dia"", fresh seafood, and other specials. You shouldn't have trouble finding something you like at a rediculously LOW PRICE... and most dishes are big enough to split between two people! A trip to Little Havana would be incomplete without a trip to Versailles ...and make sure you get a small cuban coffee from the bakery before you leave... and try the fried plantains! more

BAD ATTITUDE 1/5/2007

i don't get the hype. the food was ok (although i thought little havana was better), the servers were friendly enough (althoug a bit slow) and the hostess was just RUDE, RUDE, RUDE. i understand that this place is apparently popular and crowded but there were tables available in the back room and my party was not seated for a good 30 minutes even though other groups that came later than us were immediately seated. the hostes was also snotty with the attitude when asked about the waiting time to be seated. maybe my dining experience would have been different but for the RUDE hostess. but, i guess, we will never know because i was not impressed! more

It was just OKAY........ 12/15/2006

I came here with my husband, he suggested this place after coming here a few years ago....... we were in Miami for a week and ate here 3 times, each time it just kept getting worse! The first night we had the Ropa Vieja (typical cuban dish of shredded meat with onions and peppers) I sent it back to be nuked..... the second time my husband had the Ropa Vieja again( a little warmer this time) and I had a cuban sandwich which had barely any pork, a ton of ham and a slice of swiss cheese that was not melted, the sandwich had been pressed, the bread had so much butter on top it kept slipping out of my hands! the third time beef stew and roasted pork, again we both sent our meals to be nuked..... The food was at our table in less than 10 minutes, (if you where in a hurry this wouldn't be a bad thing, we where on vacation so we weren't concerned about time) which led me to believe that everything was pre-made, that would be okay if it arrived at our table pipping hot, however, it was barely lukewarm, If you ever had latin food it is not very good served cold!) The waitstaff was polite, not very knowledeable on their own menu, they couldn't answer simple questions, the last time there we had 3 different waiters, no one knew what was going on! The one thing I do recommend was the coffe and the pastries/desserts!!!!!! Those where very good! When purchased at their adjacent bakery. more

Best Pastelitos and Plantain Soup 10/2/2006

Good Service but lately the plates and silverware may not be the cleanest. Not recommended if you are picki about cleaningness in the plates, cups or silverware. Pros: Fast Service Cons: Not Clean more

It's not South Beach. Just great Cuban food..... 6/7/2006

There's nothing more moronic than someone complaining about the mojitos at Versailles. Stay in South Beach if you want to drink and dance naked. However, if you want the Mecca for traditional no nonsense Cuban food, please come to the Versailles. The Palomilla Steak is the best. If you like seafood, order the pargothe Red Snapper. Its broiled whole in delicious butter and spices and served with fluffy Spanish rice. Leave room for dessert. The Flan, Rice Pudding and Cuban Coffee are without equal. I've closed many business deals in the confines of this fine establishment and have never heard a complaint from any of my guests, in fact, quite the contrary. The Versailles harkens back to Miamis Cuban Hey Day back in the 70s and 80s, and that ambience is not lost on the more mature, established crowd that flock to this oasis regularly. Im looking forward to many more visits there! more

Don't get fooled - it IS Denny's-esque 5/31/2006

On a recent weekend in Miami, in search of authenic Cuban food and following the advice of many reviewers on the internet, I took a LONG taxi ride to Versailles. Let me tell you... it IS the Denny's of Cuban cuisine... Absolutely terrible, Denny's-esque ambiance. That being said, the flank steak, black beans and rice were, in fact, great. And cheap. But... worst mojito I have ever had, very average empanadas. Yes, the food is good, authenic and cheap, but it is a long drive for a less-than-pleasant dining experience. Perhaps late night, after many drinks, the cafeteria-stlye dining room is less disappointing. Pros: good food Cons: terrible ambiance, bad mojitos, far from South Beach more

Not The Place Anymore. 3/31/2006

The pork is not that good, the food is pricey for little havana, the service leaves allot to be desired and the rest of the offerings are not all that great. Pros: location, parking Cons: overpriced, poor service, food not great more

""Heaven Meets Earth, Cuban-Style."" 1/12/2006

For the value, service, ambiance, and most importantly...food, this Cuban legend is the ""Mecca"" of its kind. All bets are off for negativity here pertaining to any kind of item on the menu. Being a man of part Cuban decent, how could I miss passing by at least once in my life to the famed Versailles. I would highly recommend this diamond in the rough for anyone of any age to enjoy for its amazing attention to detail. Opens early and closes late for anyone with the sudden urge. Heaven meets Earth, Cuban-Style on 8th street in this wonder of a restaurant. -L.A. Pros: Everything. Cons: None. more

best food 6/7/2005

Rude Waitress 9/4/2004

If its not enough parking in the middle of the street, try having a rude waitress serve you. Dining at this place felt like being at my former high school cafeteria. Horrible experience!!!!! There is absolutely no privacy at this place. But, the worse thing is that you might end up paying an 18% tip for a rude waitress. I was at some point scary to ask for water, due to the waitress attitude. So, if you want to waste 20-30 for a plate, you would be better off going to the local bar across the street. To end, it will only be fair to mention that the host was very, but very nice. Pros: Seating Cons: , No privacy, Tip Included on Bill more

Versailles Restaurant 6/13/2004

A wonderful restaurant with excellent food. If you go for lunch or the early bird an excellent value too. Pros: good food, good service, moderately priced more

Fabuloso! 5/17/2004

It was the best lunch I had in Miami, went there last summer. I am planning to go to Fort Lauderdale next week and plan not to leave without visiting Versailles in Miami. We asked a Cuban cab driver where to eat great Cuban food and he took us there. He was not wrong. If you want good Cuban food without the glamour, go there, you won't regret it. Pros: excellent food, excellente service more

reliable 3/30/2003

This is a Cuban Restaurant with adequate food. It is not the best Cuban Restaurant in town, however, it is reliably average with fast service and generally corteous. Avoid it at peak periods. Pros: Inexpensive, Consistent Cons: Crowdd, Difficult parking more

favorite miami moment! 2/27/2003

our visit to the versailles restaurant was the highlight of our trip! we were worried about the crowd, but we were seated promptly, and were served killer mojitos! our waiter was fantastic-honest & straightforward. we would have gone back for another visit, but we were still full from the delectable food! don't compare it to denny's. Pros: inexpensive, big portions, quick service Cons: nothing else nearby more

OUTSTANDING 1/7/2003

INCREDIBLE FOOD, OUTSTANDING SERVICE AND GREAT AMBIANCE, AND GREAT SELECTION AND VALUE... more

Que rico! 1/7/2003

Ate here twice during my stay in miami and the cuban food was rich an delicious. The plantains and rice to go along with the entre (i had the garlic shrimp and the carne asado) had that superb blend of sweet and salty. The dulce de leche flan was also great. Not a trendy place by any means, more of a diner type atmosphere with great, great food. Pros: value, food, dessert Cons: ambience, lack of more

DEFINITELY NOT DENNY'S! 12/7/2002

Comparing this restaurant to Denny's is an embarassement to CitySearch. This place is an institution, and its low prices shouldn't deceive anyone: the food here is great and as authentic as it gets. Pros: authentic, traditional, great food more

No insults, please! 11/30/2002

i find it insulting when Versailles is compared to a Denny's! Please. Every visit to Miami or Ft, Lauderdale can count on my visits to Versailles. The prices are very cheap, yet the food is excellent and not skimpy. I also find the service very helpful. Get the total Miami experience by eating here! Pros: inexpensive, casual, good food Cons: crowded more

See&Beseen on South Beach but EAT here 11/29/2002

only a quick ride from southbeach and such better food.I wandered up and down south beach(ocean drive, collins etc) looking for a place to eat figured out its pretty much all show and no go when it came to food) then one of my friends brought me to this large gaudy place on SW 8th street, coming from NY I was thinking it looked like a diner-which it is to a degree but its got great (authentic,at least to a gringo(ie me) cuban food -I had a skirt steak with plaintains, some croquettas, and a dessert called TRES LECHE_OH MY GOD IT WAS INCREDIBLE-one of my friends had the pork medallions and a mango cheesecake that also both were great -defnitely worth the drive from southbeach to get some good food-also very reasonable Pros: tres leche, huge Cons: , huge more
