Weird experience 5/9/2010

I came in here to eat some lunch and it was about 2:30. I knew the place did not have a menu and you ordered the daily offerings. The owner stared at me and asked me if I wanted a menu. When I said no, he seemed somewhat pleased. By the way, there was no one else in the restaurant. The food, like I said was kinda bland and expensive for what you get. When I paid, as I was leaving the owner said ""Next time, don't come so late, cause we like to close by 3."" Pros: Food wasn't bad- I think owner means well Cons: Food wasn't that good either- bland. more

Just awful! 1/14/2009

We ordered food from this place for my father-in-laws birthday party. We walked in Vatica and were called dogs! Someone that works at the place thought it was funny to call customers dogs wearing Georgia sweatshirts. Upon finding out my wife graduated from Georgia and went to law school, he called my wife a ""liar, not a lawyer!!!!!!!"" On top of the rude service, the food was terrible. Palaak Panner and Eggplant was awful. I am not saying that because of the rude service. $80 for two half trays! Insane! I would have walked out if we did not have so many people coming to the party.\r In these tough economic times, why waste your money on bad food and really, really, rude service.\r I give this place an F on every level! Pros: nothing Cons: awful food and service. more

Great food 10/9/2008

Really good Indian food. We visits every month or so for dinner. It is a set menu, and it is a little different every time and always good. Our plate is always refilled and we never leave hungry. The location isnt the prettiest though I dont mind it. The price may seem high, but truly Indian food is always expensive and this is all you can eat of 5 to 6 different dishes. I like the variety. The owner always remembers us and is really funny. I recommend this place to anyone who wants great food and service and not concerned about the looks of the place. more

Love/Hate Relationship 8/25/2008

As a vegetarian, it's great to be able to go out for lunch and have something besides a green salad. As a fan of Indian food, I'm not terribly impressed by Vatica. In the year or so I've been a regular, I've gotten very bored with the rather bland, mushy food and lack of variety. Rice, soup, potato curry, dal, vegetable, bread and raita...it never changes. In addition, I've clearly been pegged as a two-thali customer. After the second refill I've literally continued to sit for an hour while conversing, and no additional refill has been offered. Since about 2 oz of each item is provided with each refill, and since this is often my main meal, it's really not worth the $12 to me. There are restaurants that I look forward to patronizing and restaurants that will do for an okay meal everyone can live with. This is definitely one of the latter. Pros: Vegetarian, dependable Cons: Mushy, bland food; slow service more

I can Cook better than that for sure........... 8/21/2008

I had gone there with 10 of my friends ...we were really hungry and were craving fr some traditional indian food ...Vatica was a real bad experience....the mananger /owner was really weird and sacrsatic ..clearly not intreasted or ready fr 10 ppl or i guess was ready to call of the day \r FOOD was really bad...the only thing i liked was carrot pickel .No taste what so ever and the service wasnt that great either .\r NEEDS real Improvement with FOOD , Decor , Attitute and service.\r And PRICEY i wonder why..for what ..????????\r NOT WORTH THE PRICE ....not even close Pros: carrot pickel Cons: price , food , service u name it more

Absolutely bland unappetising preparations 7/8/2008

I went a couple of days back. The place smells bad. The staff is funny. They lack social courtsies. The food is the biggest problem. We had a bill of 12 dollars per person. I am not ready to pay such a price for this quality of thali (predetermined menu) in newyork city or sfo also. \r I am a yogic food cook in the US and appreciate simple food. This food is simply cooked but without any interest. It is a money minting exercise. I could have opened 50 such restaurants till date if it were for money. Ethics and pricing in this business play an important role. This guy does not believe in that. Pros: parking Cons: not value for moey, bland food, not authentic indian more

Worst place for anyone to visit this place.lot of racial discrimination. 5/19/2008

To who all visit this so called vegeterian indian restaurant, the place looks shabby and dull. The furnitures are broken.. The whole atmosphere is utter mess and not at all friendly. This is one of the poorest Indian restaurant where in you will find the worst of Indian food. The hospitality is also the worst, The female who comes to serve sabzi for second time, would purposely delay. And this was only for Indians. There were some other people who were given a different treatment, and the difference was easily noticeable as well. \r Coming to the food aspect of it, there are no appetizers nor desserts as they advertise about it. The rotis didnt taste like the Indian. It almost tasted like the Mexican tortiloes (non-veg). It looked like the female was instructed not to serve and treat Indians properly. The owners are cunning and the place looks shabby and dull. There isnt anything that is good about this place. I just wonder, if they are not treating their own country people properly, what would they do with others and how are they stil surviving. Also I would not rate this restaurant, because it is not fit to be given a Single STAR ..If you want to imagine how worst a place can be, then you can visit this place Pros: no pros Cons: bad service, racial discrimination, broken furniture, un hygenic food more

Horrible Ripoff!! 12/31/2007

This place is a total ripoff! Stay away. This is not a real thali - no appetizers or desert or lassi. The trolley with the food comes very slowly on purpose to prevent people from eating too much. For $11 you can get much better food at any other buffet place\r more

Worst experience..worst food..too expensive!! 10/21/2007

Please do not go to this restaurant. My experience was horrible, they mentioned on website thali contains desserts and appetizer, but they told us it will be charged extra. For second servicing they purpose delay giving you food. We were waiting for 5 min. but no one came to serve papad, finally i finished without it. I think for $11 its horrible. I would prefer buffet in any Indian restaurant. Too bad..don't go here Cons: Everything is bad..did not like it at all more

Lovely food, great prices and very helpful staff 10/7/2007

First time and we really loved everything about this place, good food (eat as much as you can at lunch, and we didnt understand why someone made a complaint they were still hungry., I dont quite understand why because there was an endless supply of food..)\r \r the staff are very friendly, kind and sweet, especially the owner :)\r \r easy parking, clean -\r \r we'll be back!\r Pros: Great food, nice service , easy parking, - very good exprience more

A long time favorite 7/20/2007

I've been eating at this restaurant since it opened and find that it's consistently very good. I have always been overfed and never noticed any stinginess or reluctance to feed me as many helpings as I can make room for. I only wish it wasn't across town, I'd eat there every week. more

Highly overated 6/5/2007

After reading all the great reviews, I wanted to try it and experience it myself. My husband went in for lunch and after $20 later, came out still hungry. We love Indian cuisine and I've frequented many vegetarian restaurants before. I thought the food was a bit overcooked. Three our of the five dishes were flavorful and well seasoned but two were just mushy and didn't resembled any vegetables (and it wasn't puree). What was disappointing is that they were stingy on the portions. They're smart to have servers come and control each portion and advertise it as all you can eat. When I asked for a third helping of two particular dishes (the two that I thought were fairly good), they put just a little dallop in the little yogurt size cups. They even skimped on giving me a second helping of rice, which is the cheapest to serve and usually a filler. I took that as a sign that I'm done and shouldn't eat any more. The owner stopped by frequently to chit-chat. The only thing good about the lunch was the saffron ice cream. Like I said, we came out of there $20 poorer and still hungry.\r I wouldn't go back again.\r \r Pros: friendly owner, parking Cons: shopping center, stingy portions, framed pictures from calendar more

FOR Pure VEG Only 5/23/2007

This is really good choice for the people who are pure vegetarian. There is absolutely no meat. \r Place is nice and clean and food is tasty, People who love simple and elegant food it is right choice for them. \r Your stomach will never get upset , it is not spicy so overall good for kids and others. Pros: Pure VEG, Tasty and good quality Cons: Service is annoying sometime Sepcially owner is extra qurious guy and try to become over friendly with you more

Excellent experience, great food 2/22/2007

If you are a vegetarian, you probably do not look forward to most restaurant outings as most menus offer a paltry selection for you. Fear not - this restaurant has no menus (well, actually, last time I went they had employed a supplemental menu with appetizers, sweets, and drinks - try the masala tea!) and everything in the place is vegetarian! As other have said, the owner is incredibly friendly and affable, but all of the other employees are very friendly as well. The restaurant is in kind of a ""dive"" location, and is not the most beautiful place in the world, but the food is great. I only with they would serve naan more often with the meals as I am a big fan. Pros: good food, good staff, friendly owner, cheap all-you-can-eat more

Fresh all you can eat Vegetarian Indian 2/5/2007

The owner is a very interesting, funny and sarcastic guy, I often goto the restaurant to chat with him. The take home desserts and snacks are freshly made in the kitchen, it often becomes an ingredient in my trail mix when I go hiking. The food is a blue light special, but has a appetizer and drink menu. I recommend the samosa and sweet Mango Lassi from the menu. Although there are no buffet table, the food is all you can eat, he just goes back to the kitchen and make some more for you. If you go there once he'll remember you. more

One of my top favorites 1/2/2007

I fell in love with Vatica my first lunch there. I used to work in the area and would visit Vatica at least once a week for lunch. The food is always interesting, different, and VERY delicious. The owner is awesome, as is the rest of the staff. Go to lunch later on Tuesdays and Thursdays as the noon crowd is pretty heavy, often filling the restaurant to capacity. I only get to make it now for dinner weekdays and lunch on the weekends, but it is a trip worth the drive to Cobb county. Pros: Awesome food, delightful staff, fast prompt service, cheap price, all you can eat more

Fresh food that was perfectly seasoned! 12/23/2006

Excellent, friendly service. The food was very fresh, perfectly seasoned, simply amazing! The refills were being brought to the table even before you had finished that dish. I left ecstatic and completely stuffed! I will go back, many times over. Pros: Food, Service, Price. Cons: None. more

Great food at a great price 8/8/2006

Vatica is a quaint family run restaurant that serves up vegetarian meals that shouldnt be missed. You get what the cook decides to make that day and it's always very good. Pros: The food and the prices Cons: Not at all fancy more

Great, great food. Great, great service. 6/21/2006

There's no menu, but you won't need one. Food was excellent all around, and the service was excellent. The man who owns the place is very friendly and funny. I'd never had Indian food before, but my girlfriend had, and we both enjoyed it very much. Well worth the trip! Pros: Friendly service, great food, inexpensive Cons: No-frills decorations, but it's a minor issue and everything was clean more

Special Moment 5/14/2006

My family wanted to do something real special for my mother in-law Mother's Day. She has in the past several months went vegetarian and there are not many restaurant that she will eat at or if she does she only eats ""lettuce"". So I found this restaurant and read all the rave reviews and my husband and I decided that we would take the family. We left church late and so it was like 15 minutes till 3:00pm, which they are suppose to stop serving. I called and spoke with the manager and he asked me where we were and I told him we were on I-285 and he said we will still serve you. I was so pleased with the service and the wait staff was very attentative. My mother in-law loved it and kept asking for more. Thanks, Vatica for making this Mother's Day one to remember!!! Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Customer Service more
