Editorial review from Citysearch 2/12/2014

I had to take the time to post a review because it's so very well deserved and most people only post when they have something bad to say. I have used the same vet forever but he retired and the office closed so I was so upset that I had to find someone new who didn't know my dog and I had seen Knightwood many times because I am from the area and decided to give it a try. Well let me start by saying the team that is behind the desk and runs the show is unreal. One is nicer than the other and I have never once called and not been greeted with a happy voice and is willing to go that extra mile to do whatever they can to help you. I have cancer and it's very hard for me to get there sometimes so I do call a lot and ask questions and they are answered or if they do not have one they find out and get back to you in lighting time. To address the doctors. I have seen 2 in the time since I changed and WOW is all I can say. They are so attentive to you and your pet. THey do whatever they can to make sure your pet is happy and healthy. My dog is almost 16 and I was very upset because I know that her time is almost up and was crying and she (the Dr.) came around the table and gave me a hug. Who does that?? She took an extra second to comfort me and she didn't have to do that and truthfully I was shocked. I have never been treated so wonderful by any vet I have ever used. The place is spotless and they have tons of brochures all over. They have everything you need to keep your pet happy and healthy and if they don't they will get it for you. If you haven't been there give it a try. Trust me you won't ever go back to your regular vet again!! \r \r I want to thank you all at VCA Knightswood Animal Hospital for making the process of living with an elderly dog so much easier. Your all wonderful caring people and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!. more

Our experience 5/11/2012

First, I would like to say thankyou to the staff, tec's, and doctor that took great care, understanding, and personal warmth, handeling the worst visit to a vet that any pet owner has to face. My wife and I were very emotional and may not have remembered to tell them how much help and comfort they gave my Max, and us. Yes the business went corporate, but these people were as carring as family. No one on earth could make this day easy, but I don't know how anyone could have been more compasionate. I'm sorry this enevitabul day had to happen, but I'm grateful to the gang at Knightswood. Thank you from Max, and my family. more

Horrible, 11/4/2011

If I could give this place less than one star, I absolutely would. I wish I would have seen the star rating before taking my poor puppy to this place. My initial visit, ,my pup was diagnosed with upper respiratory infection. She was given her first round of pills and set up for a follow up. At this point, the medication was not working. So, the doc decides to give her the SAME medication to our displeasure, as we asked to have something stronger because she was still vomiting everyday, several times a day. After the 2nd round of medication and no progress, we called the doc who advised that we should have a 3rd round of medication. At this time, when we came in for the medication, the doctor THEN advised us that she may need an xray. The puppy has been fighting this upper respiratory problem for over a month and they now tell us she needs xrays. I have decided to grab my file from this place and take her to another. Sadly, the other doctor states she may have pneumonia at this point. I will be seeking legal action against this vet. Please protect your animals and go elsewhere. more

My Rabbit 9/20/2010

It took me a minute to find a Vet for my daughters rabbit. There aren't many places that provide service for rabbits. Whan I called VCA with concerns, they saw Bunnz the same day. more

Knightswood Animal Hospital is Best in Phila! 1/29/2010

I have been going to Knightswood for 18 years, and have never had a negative experience. Unlike other practices I have used in an emergency I have never doubted the knowledge or caring of any of their doctors, especially Drs. E Rubin and Cusanno. \r \r I run a cat rescue and use Knightswood EXCLUSIVELY for not only my pets but the cats in the rescue. Dr. Cusanno has saved at least 3 cats no one else could even treat.\r \r Dr. Rubin was the one who figured out that my dog had a severe allergy to regular food when another vet at a clinic I took her to said it was LUPUS. She nearly died because the other vet was incompetant.\r \r I HIGHLY recommend VCA Knightswood Animal Hospital. It is now the ONLY vet I will use and recommend to others in the Phila area. more

VCA Knightswood Animal Hospital is not as good as it used to be 12/11/2009

I used to go to this practice. However, I do not go there any longer. They constantly lost records. I moved, and kept giving them my new address and phone number, and they never updated it. They also don't keep up on newer protocols, and tried to give my dog a 1 year rabies, instead of the 3 year. They also vaccinate annually, when most are going to less frequent. They have also become very expensive. I will not go there anymore. more

Clueless Vet 12/3/2009

I took my rabbit there for its first check up, it was two and a half months old at the time. I read up online that they would need spaying/neutering to prevent sickness, cancer etc. and I wanted to know the details and the outcome if I go forward with the procedure. I was in the room with the vet as he check and weigh my bunny, he told me things I already know and couldn't educate me any further then the rabbit sites online. I told the vet that as far as I know it's a girl and a gift from my sister. I dont know for sure what sex it is, he picked it up and felt around and said yes it's a girl. The vet doesnt recommend spaying because the surgery would be extarnal and that's too harmful. At that point I knew I had to hear a second opinion elsewhere. A month later my bunny was playing at it's usual favorite corner of the house and I picked it up and be hold I saw what conform it as a male. I was shock and angry at the clueless vet, they will not have my service again. But through all the confusion we still love our bunny whatever sex it may be! I Pros: First Visit free with online coupon Cons: Vet knows little to nothing more

Don't Do It 7/30/2009

I have been using this vet since I brought my dog home over 7 years ago. I was never super imressed but then again I only ever needed them for regular check ups, shots, etc... However, when I actually had a problem they fell short--big time. I took my german shepard in for a flea check in March 2009, she had been scratching herself silly. At that time they ""checked"" and said there were no fleas. They said she was probably scrathing due to recent change in food and gave me steroids for her ($90+). She continued to scratch but we went on with the assumption that she did not have fleas. We were then attacked by what seemed like millions of fleas at the end of June 2009, so we took her back to the vet--and she was treated for fleas ($107+). By that point our entire house was jumping with fleas. We tried to treat the infestation ourselves but we had no idea how bad it was. We sprayed, used boric acid, and continued the fight unsuccessfully for 3 weeks. We eventually had to hire an exterminator ($145) at which point my ankles looked like raw hamburger meat. I know we had fleas when we first took her in March. So thanks to these vets we have spent aproximately $400 for a problem that should have been solved in March. Take my advice if you need a flea check go to a different vet. more

Pet care 11/8/2008

We had a great experince taking our dog to VCA . They were very gentle and caring with Brandy. The veterinarian explained everything to us in simple language. They gave us medication to help his skin rash and worms. Great place more
