Had hoped for a 5 star experience 10/8/2012

Brought my BWM X5 in to have $2,000 worth of work done. \r \r Pros: \r 1. They only charged half of what the BMW dealership quoted me.\r 2. Really nice folks work there.\r \r Cons:\r 1. They told me a BMW Certified mechanic would work on my X5 and it was mentioned when I called them for a quote. Then it was mentioned again the morning I dropped it off. The BMW certified guy started the job and it was handed over to another guy that was not certified by BMW.\r 2. They told me it would take 2 days. It took 4 days. To their credit they were nice enough to pay for the rental car for the extra two days.\r 3. My brand new tan rubber floor mats were very greasy when they finished.\r \r Bottom line: they saved me $2,000 dollars, but I would have been really impressed if it had really taken two days, and had actually been completed (beginning to end) by a certified BMW mechanic as I was promised. \r \r Final detail: their warranty on this site says 18 months or 18,000 miles. The invoice says 12 months more

Bad news in a good way... 1/15/2012

I brought my Volvo to Uptown Imports for a second opinion on a bad diagnosis from another shop. Matt was very upfront about the probability of finding the same thing. He was careful to take his time with me and my experience with the car, rather than working off the previous diagnosis only.\r At the end of the day, he confirmed that I had an incredibly expensive repair ahead of me and helped me talk through a difficult decision. I ended up getting rid of that particular Volvo... but I bought another one. And when this Volvo needs service, there is only one shop in the city that I'll take it to. Thank, guys! more

Firendliest car service 10/27/2011

Uptown Imports is the friendliest car service I have encountered. I'm from a small town and didn't expect the extent of personal customer service that Uptown Imports provides. waaaay too expensive!!! 8/28/2011

i asked the techs about a price to change change out JUST fluids in my import (oil, diff, tranny) and when i was told just the oil was almost $80, i thought i didn't need to go any further with these guys. Yes, they are cheaper than MB and BMW dealerships, but not by much. do more research and you can find at least 2-3 more mechanics less than a mile from these guys. more

Reliable shop 7/27/2011

We have been looking for a new auto repair shop that we can trust since moving to the Twin Cities, and Uptown Imports fits the bill. Reasonable prices and helpful staff, especially when they explain exactly what needs to be done and why. The location in Uptown is conveniently close to bus lines, the Greenway, and an Enterprise. more

I have nothing but good to say about the service I received from these guys. I would strongly recommend them to anyone with an import that's in need of Maintenance or a repair. They were able to get it in and out in one day and my Advisor, Matt even offered to come in on his day off to meet me so I could pick up my car. more

A much better experience than anywhere else! 12/28/2010

Uptown Imports makes their service very personal, thorough, and satisfactory. I have been using them for years and then got a car where I had to go to the dealer for awhile. As soon as the warranty was over, I went back to Uptown Imports. It is a much better experience than anywhere else. I know that they are great problem solvers, and they do great analysis of any problems. They communicate well with their customers. I know they run their business very honorably. more

A good, genuine shop. 12/23/2010

I had some problems with my Volkswagen Passat, it has multiple weird quirks, and I was tired of going to the dealer. I looked on Google and found Uptown Imports. They were able to diagnose the problem. They did the service within the expected time, and they did it within the budget. It was my first time using Uptown Imports. The door just wasn't locking, and now it locks fine, so they did what they were supposed to do. It is a good genuine shop, and I had a positive experience. more

I have a 2006 VW passat and think it has some very lemon-like qualities. I've taken it to the VW dealership multiple times for various problems and have had mixed results with the work outcome. more

I found this mechanic from google. By looking at the ratings and comments I thought they are reliable but I think most of these comments do not reflect their reliability. Here is my experience. My passenger side low beam headlight was not working. They said that the bulb was burned and then they replaced it. Later they told me that they charged $67 for it. I insisted to know how much they charged for the equipment and the labor separately but they did not want to tell. They kept telling me that they do not charge them separately. After I paid, I saw in the service invoice that they charge $20 for the bulb and $47 for the labor which is overpriced for replacing a bulb and explains why they did not want to tell me at the first place. As a comparison I also would like to tell that they quoted $17 for replacing the bulb including the bulb in another mechanic. I strongly not recommend this mechanic and believe most of the comments here do not reflect the reality. more

Great auto service 12/11/2010

Uptown Imports has been my only repair shop for 15 years. They are great to work and and their car care club is the best deal in town. I pay for my oil changes once a year and they take care of monitoring all the item I should have done vs. need to have done today. It's nice to be able to say with confidence that you completely trust your mechanics and have years of history to back up your belief. more

This is what you want in a neighborhood shop. Ex big store mechanics who venture out on their own and land near Lake and Lyndale. Honest, fair and most importantly, top notch wrenches. I won't go anywhere else. more

Great Service 1/13/2010

John runs a terrific business. My car wouldn't start so they came to my house to jump it, and when that didn't work they towed it and took care of replacing my battery and getting my car running all when I was at work. They also spent about 7 hours working on electrical problems on my car, and I am very confident that my car is fixed and won't have any more problems starting. The people that work here live and breathe this stuff, and they do a great job of explaining it to those of us who don't. Pros: Knowledgeable, cool staff of characters. A Trustworthy Auto Repair Shop! 11/19/2009

Uptown Imports helped me when no one else would. I had had a problem with my 2005 Volvo that had some issues. After taking it to two other shops, and getting nowhere because they did not want to touch a car that had hail damage. It was damaged goods to them. Pros: Honesty and Good Cons: none more
