The best 12/1/2009

I can't understand how someone could write that the employees are unfriendly. I have had the pleasure of going to Uptown Coffee for 4 years now and each and everytime I go in I am always greeted with a smile and kind word. I have waiting now and then but it has been during lunch time. I would much rather wait for a hand made sandwhich and a drink that is great then quickly pick up a crappy premade thing disguised as food. And as far as Starbucks well now that is a place that the employees are unfriendly, they NEVER get the order right and the food is horrid. Uptown Coffee just keep doing what your doing. Pros: food and coffee Cons: parking more

A great coffee shop all-around 7/30/2009

The two people that gave scathing reviews of this place are out of their minds. I've never had to wait any significant amount of time for a drink. In fact, I've waited longer for them to make a cup of tea, than I did in line. It's great for business meetings as well. It's clean, has great drinks, and internet access. What else does one need? (Besides someone else to do your work for you ;-) Pros: Everything's great Cons: Parking can be slightly annoying more

The best coffee shop 1/10/2009

The best coffee shop! I disagree that the service is unfriendly and slow. For those who wrote that, I can only say that they are spoiled. They have the best milkshakes and the best espresso. Pros: Food, coffee more

Outstanding baked goods, coffee and teas 12/21/2008

Having gone to Uptown Coffee once a week for the past 8 years, I can truthfully say that this business is one of the unadvertised treasures in the city. The chocolate layer cake is so good that it is sold by Bistro 19 as one of its signature desserts. The freshly made scones (various creative flavors, such as chocolate chip almond or gingerbread or orange cranberry) are made with whole ingredients , perfectly crisp and top any in the city. The frosted sugar cookies are such a great combination of buttery and sweet that my friend in Florida insists on stopping at Uptown to eat one or two whenever she comes to town. The chai latte is not from a mix, but made with their own blend of spices (including oregano I believe) and is very spicy but not sickning sweet. Sometimes there is a wait, but people in line just turn around and start chatting with each other- is that so bad???? If you want fast and impersonal , you could try Mickey D's but that is not the place for me. more

Slow, Unfriendly service 8/15/2008

I have worked in Mt. Lebanon for over a year, and have been to Uptown at least once a week, until a couple months ago when I had enough of the inconceivable wait. Pros: Sweets and sandwiches are fresh Cons: Service is slow as molasses and people seem bored with their job and the people they have to serve more

longtime customer weighing in with a positive review 6/13/2008

As a customer of Uptown Coffee for about eight years now, and a frequent poetry reading or concert goer at the othe coffee shops around, I must say, Uptown is the best, at least in the South Hills, if not in the Pittsburgh area. Pros: great ambience, hip music, close to T stop, nice employees, great lemonade, parking right across the street Cons: not good for groups larger than 8, sometimes not all menu items are available more

A warm and friendly joint- great espresso too 3/18/2008

I don't usually post reviews but I noticed the negative review of Uptown Coffee posted earlier and wanted to respond. It sounds like that person had one bad experience there and that shouldn't have happened. But I've been to Uptown countless times over the years and have always received good and friendly service. The atmosphere is mellow (classic jazz often playing in the background) and the baked goods are the best in town, maybe the best I've ever tasted. (Check out the apple/walnut cake- amazing!) Espresso is first rate too. In my opinion, the best coffee house in Pittsburgh. more

Not always customer friendly 3/7/2008

I stopped in Uptown Coffee this morning carrying a heavy package in my hands. When I walked up to the counter there was one customer being waited on who was joined by two friends the moment I stepped up behind her. After the first customer was dispatched the fella behind the counter waited for the two friends to run back to the counter which they have left to look at the pastries. All the while another employee stood with his back to we four customer while he washed dishes. When the first friend ordered a mucho grande whatever I walked out. The fella behind the counter knows me from my coming into the coffee shop everyday and knows I do not order any special drinks that take time. He could have asked the other two ladies to wait (they were going to sit down and eat and drink there) or better yet, he could have told his co-worker to turn around and wait on people!! I had had this experience before. Plus, they don't seem to care to continually keep things in stock, lemon, bread etc. Being a frequent customer does not mean anything there. more
