Tutor Time has a VERY rigid and structured program, so this place is not for every child! My son was three and a half years old when we enrolled him last year, and only lasted 6 ...

baby sitting at best not a learning center. 3/2/2012

My 4 year old son has been enrolled for 3 months. The staff is not personable. When you ask them about how your kids day was they act annoyed that your taking up there time. They have the TV on in the "class room" at least 40% of the time when I pick my son up. The radio is playing some hip hop radio station maybe another 40% of the time. The "teacher" to kid ratio is 30 - 40 kid to one "teacher". There seems to be no organization there. My son has not brought home one art project home in 3 months. When I tell the administrator that I'm transfering my son to another school she gets snippy and says I can't and I owe money. When I'm payed up for weeks in advance, if anything I get money back. They are not a learning center in any way. I will never recommend them. more

BEWARE!!!!! 11/1/2011

FIRST OFF LET ME START BY SAYING THAT IVE READ ALL OF THE REVIEWS AND I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE WITH ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT TUTOR TIME. TOTUR TIME IS RAN LIKE A BUSINESS AND NOT LIKE A SO CALLED PRESCHOOL WHICH EVEN THAT IS MISLEADING. (BABYSITTING SERVICE). THEY ARE NOT FLEXIBLE AND UNDERSTANDING TO WORKING PARENTS WHICH IM SURE WE ALL ARE. THIER RULES ARE OUTRAGEOUS AND NOT FLEXIBLE WHICH IS IMPAIRMENT TO WORKING PARENTS. THEY ARE ALL ABOUT RECEIVING THEIR MONEY ON TIME. AND DO NOT BE ONE DAY LATE OR YOU WILL FACE AN UNREASONABLE AMOUNT LATE FEE. ITS TRUE WHAT MOST PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT FRONT DESK STAFF. RUDE!!! IN ADDITION TO ALL OF THIS I FOUND OUT THEY ARE UNDERSTAFFED AND USE THE HEAD TEACHER TO DO ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES. THAT MEANS MY CHILD AND THOSE UNFORTUNATE CHILDREN IN THAT CLASS ARE NOT GETTING THE FULL ADVANTAGE OF TEACHING AND CARE. NOT TO MENTION THE PARENTS WHO THINK THEY ARE PAYING FOR GREAT CHILDCARE. I WILL BE REMOVING MY CHILD IN TWO WEEKS BECAUSE IF HAVE TO USE MY DEPOSIT AS SERVICE. PARENTS TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION MY REVIEW. ITS YOUR CHILD WHO WILL SUFFER AS AN END RESULT. more

I didnt enroll my daughter because.... 5/13/2011

My cousin has had his daughter at Tutor Time in the Bronx since she was 3 months old til she was 2years old. She was de-enrolled bcuz she started biting & that was only bcuz she was getting bitten by another child in her class & they did nothing to him. Although this happened, I still considered enrolling my daughter. When I went visit the school, the appearance is very nice. Spoke with the lady that was trying to enroll me & bumped heads with her bcuz my schedule at work is 8am to 4pm & I advised her that I would need child care from 7am to 5pm, she advised me that they have drop off at 8am & pick up at 6pm. I said that I understood that but I need chid care from 7am-5pm due to my schedule at work. She told me that bcuz I need child care 1 hour earlier than drop off time, I would have to pay an additional charge of $30 something dollars each week. I didn't understand that bcuz I'm picking her up an hour early? This woman did not care & would not make an exception. Bcuz of this, I chose not to enroll my daughter. I was very upset that they would treat someone this way bcuz of their work schedule. more

The Worst Ever 2/11/2011

The center doesn't deserve any stars but it wouldn't let me submit without hitting one. The teachers in Toddler B are okay but the front desk staff is horrible and they all need staff training. My son got sick and I wasn't able to pick him up within the 1 hour time frame that they allow, and they "disenrolled" him from the school. My job is very upset as he liked going to school and being w/ his friends. His birthday is next week and we were planning to have a small party in his class. I'm very disappointed at the way the director dismissed us from the school. They have no compassion and senstivity at all. They look at children like a number and not human beings, do not waste your money in that school. more

Great place for children & parents 2/7/2010

Good: I love the fact that my child is active from the moment dropped of until the moment picked up. I have had more than one child attend, currently have one child enrolled, they are happy when there, they love the school food and the staff. I also love the fact that they do try to get families involved with special events as well as daily activities. I have witnessed nothing but loving, caring teachers. That work very hard from am - pm.! And like me (& you) go home to their families & all that comes with that!. Bad: I would like to see the place cleaner, not that it isn't. It is clean, however I think the finer details need to be looked at. The teachers all do their part from what I can see. But if you look at the details, there are some things being over looked. Nothing that would be harmful, but still not spotless. They need to have the details worked on like dusting, touch-ups on paint, etc. The "small" stuff.. Improvements: More staffing! Maybe different shifts so the teachers aren't there such long days!. Other: Administration is very helpful, courteous, respectful & loving. I am sure they don't have it as easy as we think, they have to listen, talk, & help everyone that walks thru the doors &/or calls from am - pm. They are truly the HEART of the center. Sometimes they're expected to treat some people as if they are the only ones that need their attention. They try to please everyone! I see how they love the kids in the center & respect parents/families. I THANK THEM for all that they do!!. more

keep looking 11/3/2009

The staff at the head of Tutor time are in need of traing on how to deal with parents and staff. Your personal business is spoken infront of others and the addministration staff is very rude and they now wonder why they keep losing children and staff as fast as they come they are leaving. Be very slective where u leave your child. more

not the place for a "different" child 10/7/2009

my son has been there since he was 18 mos old. i loved it until this year...he was diagnosed with a speech delay. he is three now. now all of a sudden no one wants to deal with him. he cries and screams all day. they don't try to include him in the class activites, and to boot, they purchased a drum for him to play with so he would "stay out of their hair". they had the audacity to tell me that that may not be the place for him...after they took 10,000 of my hard earned dollars of course. i am very disappointed. more

beware and be active 2/4/2009

my baby attended since she was 6 weeks to a year.. i had to go back to work and throughout her care i became very concerned. I would visit her throughout the day and would see her being mistreated in different ways. staff violated department of health codes especially on the treatment of children. no screaming no time outs no holding down like an animal. director unavailable and will not believe you!!!!!!!!! please choose a different center !!!!!! more

Not a place to leave your child 10/17/2008

Although there are some great teachers, there have been a few that have been extremely rude to the children. I warn anyone who wants to bring their child here that there are teachers who, in the past, have been more than strict. The director was notified and did not remove these problem teachers outside of the classroom. The director is rude does not care about her workers nor the children. more

Stay far away! 9/18/2008

The teachers at Tutor Time are sweet and the kids love them...but the Director is not very kind and only worries about the bottom line - and not the people and children in the bldg. She needs to get another job where she doesn't interact with people at all. Upper Mgmt. is so out of touch, they can't see that she is hurting their organization rather than helping it. There are many other higher-quality day cares in Throggs Neck....don't settle for dealing with her! more

Not for the involved parent 7/28/2007

Tutor time is/was not a good experience for my child. Being a new mom, I was initially thrilled to see the beautiful aesthetics that tutor time has to offer. But that is where the beauty ended. The staff turn over rate should have been my first indication that this place was not all it was cracked up to be. Tutor time is so concerned with being an exceptionally recognized learning environment-- Its service to the kids is lacking. There are a few hard working teachers. However, most of the staff are comprised of part-time personnel. They hand off the kids like the delivery man hands over groceries. This place breeds aggression. The rigid competitive environment is no place for a child under 6 years. Children and parents need a nurturing environment. The director pretends to offer an ear but often talks poorly about other parenting styles (without mentioning names of course). They do reinforce good academic skills. But guess what/ your kid will learn it anyway. more

Tutor Time not all it's cracked up to be! 2/2/2007

Tutor Time has a VERY rigid and structured program, so this place is not for every child! My son was three and a half years old when we enrolled him last year, and only lasted 6 weeks! The major disappointment was that the staff, especially the director, seemed TRULY annoyed that my son was not following the "perfect" program they have in place. They seemed to lack patience and did not want to be bothered, and immediately referred us to seek help in determining what was "wrong" with my child, which we were DUMB enough to do! It was QUICKLY realized that the obvious problem was that he was not ready for such a rigid program at his age, and we found a family based daycare in which he has been thriving for the past year, because there is a wonderful certified teacher there and the entire staff understands how much patience is need to deal with a child. Ironically, alot of the children there came FROM Tutor Time! However, the worst part was that, instead of giving us the courtesy of two weeks notice, as mandated by them, to start looking for alternative care, the director gave us FOUR days notice, in the form of a letter left at the front desk! They made us feel like our child was so bad that we didn't even deserve to be given the bad news in person! more
