In Defense of Tsunami 2/17/2010

Though I can't speak for the Jenks location, I visited the Tsunami in Downtown Tulsa before they moved, and it was by far my favorite sushi place! I'll admit, the space was not particularly roomy or comfortable, the service was mediocre, but the food made it worth it for me - def. the freshest sushi in town, from my personal experience. Pros: delish! Cons: kind of expensive, not the most comfortable more

The worst sushi place ever 12/3/2008

This restaurant is the worst Japanese restaurant in Tulsa. The service is bad and the wait is forever even when they are not busy. When we went there, several customers were waiting for their food and were very unhappy with how long it was taking for the food. We sat for a while hoping for someone to take our order. After 30 minutes, they came with our hot tea that was served in a sake cups (this is only use for sake in Japan never seen this anywhere in the United States). At first we thought it was cute until you get tired of pouring your tea in little shot cups. We waited over an hour and we still did not get our basic sushi order (sliced tuna on rice .. how hard can that be). We will never visit this restaurant again and we don't recommend this on anyone. This is really the worst restaurant ever. more

Best Seafood Quality in Town by Dr. Fish Seafood Company 5/7/2008

As a seafood company I shouldn't write for the restaurant we deliver too. Even though I see that Tsunami has a high rating one of the recent reviews show that the quality was not that great. I wanted to get this straight for everyone because Tsunami owner and their employees are very nice hard working people. My name is David Kim, Purchasing Director for Dr. Fish, Inc. a Seafood company located in Dallas, TX. I am responsible for ordering seafood from worldwide for my company. I have to guarantee to my company that I am purchasing one of the best products at the best price in order for our sales team to offer the same. There are other seafood companies out there who will use cheaper quality to save themselves and make a bigger profit. Tsunami is our loyal customer and I guarantee you that they use one of the best quality out there. Visit our website for more information. w w w drfishinc dot com Thank you for reading guys! Pros: Great Quality Available from the World Cons: The Seafood is too fresh! more

Tsunami Sushi 5/6/2008

Live in LA, came back to visit family. Heard this was the best place to get sushi in tulsa so I headed downtown. Had a $70 bill for 5 rolls of quarters. Sushi is tiny, it took an hour to arrive, atmosphere is terrible, and the taste was crap...I've had better sushi at a chinese buffet. Pros: Trendy look? maybe Cons: It sux out loud more

mediacore sushi, poor service, poor mgmt 2/28/2008

Been here before, won't go again. We were the first group (5 people) for a friday lunch and arrived at 11:30am. One of our guests hadn't arrived yet so our waitress assumed we didn't want to order and never bothered to ask. Once our final guest arrived, she took our order at 11:45. Apparently the waitress held on to the order and turned it in after noon (we were told the order wasn't turned in until after noon by the owner). We were one of the last groups to get our food @ almost 1pm. One of our guests had to leave before they could eat. The owner lectured us that we should expect this slow of service on a friday at a sushi bar and offered a 25% discount afer being offered 75% by the manager, which didn't happen. We eat sushi regularly during our lunch HOUR and never get this slow/poor service at any other sushi establishment. This was a special trip dowtown as we hadn't eaten at Tsunami in a while. Poor management and slow staff. Appreantly he's never considered hiring more cooks. While we we waiting for our food we had other customers telling us of similar experiences and told us they had received fully comp'd meals and additional gift certificates. 25% was a joke and an insult. The lecture was the biggest insult. I would expect the owner and the manager to handle themselves more professionally and more courteously. I refuse to give either of the any more of my money and if we had known we were going to pay for 75% of the ticket, we would have left before the food was brought out. It wasn't worth the time, the furstration, or the wait. Pros: medcore sushi Cons: incredibly slow, pricey, poor mgmt/owner more

SHOCKED THAT PEOPLE LIKE THIS!!! 2/8/2008

Have you people ever eaten at a quality sushit place?? I was visiting from L.A. and people took me to this place. I was stunned! Tasteless, no creativity, slow service, small rolls and expensive. The fish wasn't even fresh, it was frozen! Now, I have had sushi from coast to coast (from NY to ATL, Chicago to L.A.)...this is the worst sushi ever! I even went back the following day at lunch just to make sure (yes, I am a glutton for pain). I was right the first time. Sorry, people of Tulsa. I guess you have no idea what sushi is. Cons: everything. more

Great Service 12/30/2007

As I did not pay or see the bill, I cannot comment on price, except to say that the payor said it was better than another place in town. I had the marlin and I thought it was excellent. Rice was cooked well and the Saki was warm. Atmosphere was top notch. Employees are very warm and inviting. I will eat there again!! more

A Pleasure 8/14/2007

I had dinner at Tsunamis a week ago for the first time with a group of 4 friends all from different states (MA, OH, CO, & OK) after the PGA. Every one raved about the sushi rolls, nigri, the sake' and the atmosphere and service. It is one of the best Japanese Resturants I have experienced. One of many I have had the pleasure to dine at in the US. We dined on Tuna, Salmon, Octupus, Red Snapper, and salmon Roe Rolls; Diablo, spice tuna and shrimp, eel, and a Spider roll. Service was friendly and helpful. Upscale look and feel in a retro area of downtown. I will be back for more and I recomend it to everyone. more

Absolutely Horrendous!!!! 7/2/2007

I read the reviews on here and saw that there were mainly very good, so, I decided to go there with some friends. I wasn't expecting anything bad or atrocious, however, when my sushi rolls came, I was horrified. I was going to pay $50 for an eight inch plate of sushi? I don't think so. There was supposed to be 3 makimono rolls, but, looked more like rolls made for a Barbie doll. They really were very small. Probably about an inch wide by about a quarter of an inch thick. Terrible. To add insult to injury, they tasted awful as well. What a waste of money. If you want sushi in Tulsa, goto either Sushi Train on 51st and Harvard, or Memories of Japan on 2409 W Kenosha St, Broken Arrow, or the Fuji's at Brookside (avoid the 71st location, not very good). At the end of the day, DO NOT GOTO TSUNAMI SUSHI AT ANY OF THEIR LOCATIONS, THEY ARE AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: They have three locations in Tulsa Cons: HIgh price for sushi that tastes bad!! more

Nice atmosphere but poor value 6/9/2007

We visited for dinner before an event at the Performing Arts Center. The atmosphere is good, but like many other reviewers have said, the service is slow and the servers aren't very attentive. We arrived early in the evening (before the rush) and still had to wait 45 minutes after we ordered to receive our food--simple sushi rolls and some nigiri. The food had great flavor, but the portion sizes were incredibly small. The sushi rolls were about as big in diameter as a hot dog! These were definitely the smallest sushi rolls I have ever seen--from anywhere I've had sushi throughout the U.S.--and the prices were high considering what you received. It's a good place to check out the downtown scene, but better sushi can be found elsewhere in Tulsa. I doubt we'll be back. Pros: Fun downtown atmosphere; close to PAC Cons: Slow service, poor value more

Avoid the Tsunami, run for the hills... 5/10/2007

This place is horrible. Ok, I've been to worse. Seated promptly but the wait for the food felt like eternity (avoid lunch time). Over priced and low quality. This place was more interested in looks than quality of food. I just moved from the Northwest, I hope there are better Japanese restaurants in Tulsa, if not, I may be moving back sooner that anticipated! Pros: Free parking? Cons: Location and price more

Excellent sushi in a low-key, relaxed environment 4/9/2007

Great sushi; great relaxed atmosphere; fair prices. A funky feel, friendly service, without the chaos of ITR. Great place! more

Sushi before the concert? YES!!! 3/4/2007

Tsunami Sushi is very conveniently located (at 2nd & Detroit) for those attending events at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. It's no surprise that business has been brisk here. Tsunami's success bodes well for the revitalization of Tulsa's downtown. Tsunami, located in a building that had been a nondescript warehouse that has been rennovated and looks ATTRACTIVE, is decorated in a funky/trendy style. The servers are young and energetic, but tend to be absent-minded at times. As an example, my server had to be reminded that a soup and salad came with the combo that I ordered. The sushi is wonderful here. Absolutely fresh, and inventive combinations are available. I had probably the best Spider Roll (which includes deep-fried soft-shell crab) of my life. My combo also included a delicious spicy salmon hand roll, and shrimp and scallp nigiri sushi. My dinner started off with an excellent miso soup, chock full of tofu and fresh mushrooms. The mushrooms are a tad unusual, but quite effective. I opted for the edamame beans, which were served piping hot and well seasoned with kosher salt and freshly-ground black pepper. I don't usually opt for dessert at sushi joints, but I make an exception here. I always order the ice cream surrounded by Japanese rice wrappers (sorry, I can't remember the name). This is a unique, delicious and refreshing end to a great meal! Since I was about to play a three-house opera, I stayed non-alcoholic and ordered hot green tea. This was the best green tea I've ever had-and that's a HUGE compliment. In addition to a large selection of nigiri sushi and rolls, sashimi is also available, plus an EXTENSIVE selection of other Japanese/Pan-Asian entrees. Tsunami serves up the delectable Kobe beef for meat fans. The restaurant features original works by Tulsa artists, nicely illuminated. There's a nice lounge area if you have to wait for a table. Hint: Arrive by 6:00 p.m. and you'll likely be seated immediately. Pros: Great sushi, wonderful atmosphere, art by Tulsa artists, convenient to PAC Cons: Rather absent-minded service more

kochi has it all wrong 1/29/2007

I have written a review before, but I feel obligated to respond to kochi's outrageous review! This reviewer says that he/she could not believe they had to 'pay $50 for an eight inch plate of sushi which looked more like rolls made for a Barbie doll and that they felt it was waste of money.' They go on to say that If you want good sushi in Tulsa, one should go to either 'Sushi Train on 51st and Harvard, or Memories of Japan on 2409 W Kenosha St, Broken Arrow, or the Fuji's at Brookside (avoid the 71st location, not very good).' What!! This person needs to seriously learn about the palette and what good fresh food is! They must frequent McDonalds and other nasty fast food joints to make such a statement. Bottom line: if you want to eat sub-par food you will inevitably pay less. If you want quality expect to pay a bit more. And P.S. Fuji's is decent at best at both locations, one does not differ much from the other. Oh yeah and the B.A Memories of Japan is fast food sushi just like Sushi Train. Pros: upbeat, fun staff and creatve spin on sushi, offers soy wraps Cons: rushed service, not kid friendly more

Good Sushi option 9/15/2006

Tsunami is one of my choices for Tulsa sushi. As a whole, the food is on par with what you get at In The Raw, the prices are a little bit lower, and the service is generally better. Granted, what you are paying for here is a lot of atmosphere and not a lot of food, but it's a good place to hang out, have a few drinks, and get some good fresh sushi. Be prepared to make a whole evening out of it, however, because there's no "get in, get out" here. Pros: Good quality, Average service Cons: Not the best value in town more

these guys rock til 2 am! 8/26/2006

I have to say best sushi by far, that includes all my trips to los angeles, san francisco, vegas! Incredible design, industrial warehouse meets the ocean. With an endless amount of the most creative rolls I have ever seen. The "Frank Black" (named after the lead singer of the pixies) is a sweet and spicy roller coaster of flavors, starting with the blackened eel on top and tuna, yellowtail, crab, and exotic spices inside. They have an amazing entree menu as well, the seared duck breast and kona filet were amazing. Best mojito i've ever had as well, and they have the hottest girl sushi chefs to boot:-) Pros: revolving art work every month, hot sushi girls:-) original live bands, open til 2 am! Cons: south location not open for lunch:-( more

time well spent 8/17/2006

the best sushi bar in the state. i have lived all the state of oklahoma, and always have been a avid sushi eater and i think hands down Tsunami sushi is my ultimate go to spot. my favorite roll is the baja it has a crab cake on the inside and is topped with a deliscous chipotle mayo, to die for. their late night music and sushi is also excellent. they fresh local bands on fridays and saturdays and they serve sushi until two in the morning. i give tsunami 5 stars and hope they are around for many years to come. more

Worse sushi place in tulsa 12/15/2005

Being a super-sushi-lover & having heard tons of rave reviews of this place I decided to celebrate my birthday at this so-called wonderfully sushi-specialized restaurant. I was speechless when my ordered sushirolls arrived, they were TINY, not cute-sushi-tiny, but, EXTRA-TINY. Barely an inch in diameter, barely even any taste as the sushi morsel was so embarrassingly miniscule. $8-20 per roll. Each roll was about 3" long, less than an inch in diameter, cut into as many rolls as possible. My miso soup tasted as if there was no miso. My skewered meat starter matched my tiny sushirolls. Handrolls cost $6-8 for 2 handrolls at the size of 1.5" long. The ambience of the place was very urban, which was nice, however, the artwork/graffiti on the walls was like the 90's rave scene. Only pretentious rich people think this is the hip place to be and thus frequent this place. Pros: mediocre service Cons: terrible food, overly expensive, ugly interior more

Best place in Tulsa 3/22/2005

Aside from having what I believe to be the best food(sushi and hot food) in town, Tsunami is THE place to see and be seen in Tulsa, and is the favorite among downtown business men and women at lunch and for after work drinks..and has also been known to be the new place to meet people in Tulsa..so come gorge yourself with the best sushi and sake in the state and start your love connection tonight at Tsunami..and depressed about all the downtown clubs closing? Tsunami has live music all the time and Dj's every weekend..and now downtown is safer than ever before!...it's the new place to go! And coming soon to Riverwalk Crossing in Jenks...you guessed it Tsunami Asian Bistro...even better than the first..like nothing this town has ever seen! Pros: Food, atmosphere, people more
