Under-rated 10/29/2009

If it's possible to under-rate a restaurant, this one has been. A few years ago it lost a Mobil star because it was too traditional--food not piled high enough,or tricked out. Possibly the best Italian concept restaurant in the Mid West. Certainly better than any restaurant we have here in Atlanta. more

Been here many times and it is always superb 3/27/2006

There is a reason that this is a highly rated restaurant. The food is amazing (I always get the chicken in fruit sauce) and the service is some of the best you can get. The atmosphere is romantic, but it is also great for large get togethers or work parties. The wine room is especially cool to dine in. Be prepared for valet parking, and make sure you bring ones to tip everyone for their different services. You cannot go wrong here. I highly recommend Tony's! more

Tony's - Famous Reputation Well Deserved 3/23/2006

I had heard that this was a nationally known restaurant. And now I know why. We were there for my birthday (which is not a major holiday, except in my life), so the restaurant was not crowded. The service was INCREDIBLE. We never mentioned that it was my birthday, but they brought me dessert and wished me a happy birthday in their very subtle way (they overheard my husband and me talking). Tony comes around to all of the tables, which I found charming. It definitely is a conservative restaurant, but the food was incredible. I've never had such amazing food or service before. It's definitely expensive, but I thought it was well worth it. Not an everyday kind of place ... special occasions! I highly recommend it. more

NONE for the Money 12/29/2005

Everyone who we spoke to said that this would be the best dining experience we would ever have in St. Louis. That the food was excellent, the service superb and the atmosphere elegant. Also that we would drop a few hundred dollars (for 4 people), but that "it will be completely worth it!" Hardly. The food was ok (though my stomach hasn't been right since, which could be a coincidence), but when put together with the stuff atmosphere and the mediocre service - not worth it at all. Our waiter was disheveled to say the least, spoke out of the side of his mouth, was never around when we needed him (though his support staff was very thorough) and I kept seeing him hike his pants up in the corner. The atmosphere didn't bother me as much as it bothered the rest of the folks in my party. I think part of it may have been what you should expect in such a place - overdressed people looking like they are sure they are important and a lot of hushed tones. But I think it was exacerbated by the fact that everything else didn't live up to that setting. This could have just been a bad night for Tony's (Monday night after Christmas - though every table was occupied), but I have to say I won't be back of my own accord. more
