If it's possible to under-rate a restaurant, this one has been. A few years ago it lost a Mobil star because it was too traditional--food not piled high enough,or tricked out. P...

Restaurant should be called ?Phony?s? 4/7/2008

Tony?s AAA five-diamond award status is supposed to provide one with a special evening?s celebration of food, service and upscale ambiance. Warning: expect severe disappointment should you choose to visit this dying establishment. The painful service is erratic at best while the food quality was not only lacking in producing a memorable, melt-in-your-mouth experience, but was in fact of a quality one would find at lower quality chain restaurants. Bottom line, if you like barely tolerable food and service, yet money is no object and you want to feel like you are dining in your dead grandmothers kitchen, then Tony?s is the more

Love on a plate. 1/1/2008

I have frequented this place for many years and I must say that this is my favorite place to go in St. Louis. It's a great place to go for a special occasion or simply a romantic evening out on the town. Everything is delectable and the food is nothing but delicious. The owner greets every table and makes sure that everyone is enjoying the meal. Anything you desire can be created, so don't hesitate to ask. Just relax, and order and let your taste buds take a journey along flavors that can only be described as outstanding. Pros: Food, Valet, Service, Ambience Cons: little pricey but worth every penny more

Outstanding Food 10/30/2007

This restaurant was suggested to me by a friend. After telling him were my next business trip was going to be. Everything about this establishment was great !. One of America's BEST. Pros: EVERTHING IS GREAT more

Very High End Diggs 11/11/2006

Wow! The dress code said dressy. What I didn't realize is it meant Sunday best dressy. When we arrived, my husband was given a jacket and we had 3 waiters for the whole night. Richard Gephardt sat 2 tables over from us. The good was good and the service was very high end. It is not casual dining and it is not $$ in cost. Think $$$ or $$$$. We went thrifty and got out for $150. Definitely a special occasioin place. more

5 STAR ***** EXPERIENCE 8/19/2006

After reading some of these reviews we were hesitant to keep our reservation but are certainly glad we did! more

Mr. Duke 11/8/2004

It was my first visit to Tony's. It was a Saturday night very loud and noisy. The service was great the food only so-so. I have have had better steaks at the chain steak houses. I still believe everyone should go at least once. Pros: Service, valet parking more

Thanks for the memories 9/18/2003

My mother and aunt took me to Tony's when I was just a little girl. We took the opprotunity to return for every special occassion-birthdays, graduations, engagements etc. The food was wonderful, we were treated like princess' and nothing has changed except the location. I no longer live in St. Louis but my family does and I always look forward to going there. Thanks for all the great memories, Mr. Bommarito! more

I Love Tony's ! ! 8/19/2003

My husband and I just celebrated our 3rd anniversary at Tony's. This was also our 3rd annual dining extravaganza at this fabulous restaurant. Tony's is an absolute treat. The food and wine was exquisite. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was elegant as well as romantic. Tony's was pleasing to all of the senses. Thank you! more

I don't need you to feed me. 8/11/2003

One goes to Tony's for the service; not the food. They do keep a spotless appearance and service but the chicken I had was soaked in a sauce that covered up any slight taste of the actual chicken. I think the highlight is checking out the celebs who've eaten there (probably for free). Don't waste your time. Impress your girlfriend w/ good food; not just kiss-booty service. more

Overrated 6/7/2003

The first time I ate at Tony's, the food was absolutely HORRIBLE! The second time I ate there (not by choice) it was better, but it's still very overrated. There are a hundred restaurants in St. Louis with better food. The service was OK, atmosphere was OK. I'll only go back if someone else is paying. more

Best in St. Louis! 4/9/2003

I proposed to my girlfriend here in March and it was the perfect experience. There were several restaurants I considered, but I decided to go to what I though would be the best and I was not disappointed. Some people might say it is expensive, and yes that is true. But consider what it may cost to go to some of the other restaurants of similar cost around St. Louis and I guarantee you won't have the same service. The food also is what should be expected in this type of restaurant, taste and presentation. If you want attention to detail and the feeling of importance, you can't go wrong at Tony's! Pros: Service, Presentation, Food more

REVIEW OF TONY'S 3/17/2003

WE WERE AT TONY'S LAST WEEK AND THE TABLE SIDE SERVICE WAS OUTSTANDING. THE WAITER,BUS BOY, WINE PERSON WAS ALSO OUTSTANDING. I RATE THIS RESTAURANT A 10. Pros: TABLE SIDE SERVICE, WINE, SERVICE more

Tony's 3/7/2003

What a meal. I can't say more. The entire experience was all very warm and a very good value. I give Tony's an overall eight. Eight you say, after what I just wrote. Surprised? I just can't see turning down the one thing that every business owner is after, cold hard cash. You must have plastic to pay or don't enter the five star beauty. I just don't understand. I travel all over and eat at extremely elegant restaurants everyweek and cash is how I pay at 90 plus percent of the restaurants. This is the very reason that America is in debt, paying for intangibles on your credit card. I wish they would at least consider accepting the most coveted pieces of paper in the world. Thank You Eric Boschert more

Extraordinary! 2/15/2003

Our first visit to Tony's was perfection. Everyone from the doorman to Mr. Bommarito treated us like their most important customer. The food was exquisite, the staff impeccably trained, and the Cherry Room was quiet and romantic. We highly recommend Tony's to anyone who appreciates fine dining at its best. more

Tony's Mean Italian & Service 1/26/2003

Tony's is an experience. Customers eat here weekly or to celebrate a special occasion. Tony's various ratings reflect experience in dining, preferences, values, and biases. I now live in Denver, a city without quality Italian restaurants where people rate dirty over-priced chain restaurants from 8-10, so St. Louis (my home town) should recognize the gem restaurant you have. I have ate at Tony's in the past, as a couple and group, with Vincent Bommarito Jr. visiting the table each time and I do not know him personally. Service is exemplary as many of the staff makes a full and good living working at Tony's. The food is excellent (note it is Northern Italian not Southern). Tony's is quiet, romantic, with a 5 Star wine list, which is why Tony's is a top-tier restaurant ($$$$) for a special occasion or if you are rich and can afford to eat here weekly. Pros: 5 Star Food & Wine, Exemplary Service, Northern Italian Food Cons: OtherReviewsLowRating more

in the midwest?! 1/21/2003

my husband and I have traveled and eaten out a lot. But we both agree never, anywhere, have we had a better dining experience than at Tony's. The food was beyond amazing, and the service beat anything we'd ever witnessesed. It was a carefully orchestrated symphony. Pros: food, service, ambience Cons: expensive more

Over rated 12/21/2002

If you like to blow you money then, this is the place. Yeah it's nice. Yeah, the food is good. And, yeah the wine list is impressive. But, If you like arrogant waiters hovering over you, if you like to spend $100+ per person, if you like snooty-ness, then baby, you've found the right place. Pros: food, wine Cons: cost, price more

Best in St. Louis without a doubt 11/20/2002

Joanie and I eat at Tony's on all Special times and when we host Special Folks from town or out of town. Darrell makes you feel special wether its the first time you've been there or if your there every night. Never been there that Vince has not stopped every table to make sure all is well. We eat all over the world and Tony's is one of the TOPS!! Joanie and Jim Hack Pros: TOPS in Everthing!!! more

Tony's Baloney 10/23/2002

I have dinned at many resturants in the area and have found Tony's to be overated. The food was only average at best the service was good not excellent. The atomosphere was very stuffy. Try Dierdorphs and Harts more

great experience 10/17/2002

The food is top notch. We eat in great restaurants everywhere and the food at Tony's is impressive. Our waiter was very attentive. However, our experience was almost ruined by some very rude customers who felt that they should be allowed to smoke anywhere they wished and threw a loud and tacky fit in the restaurant. However, they were accomodated with a new table. If we lived in St. Louis, we would be regulars. more
