I have purchased birds and supplies from this store for over 15 years. The birds are healthy, the supplies are the best around. I agree with some of the other reviews that the staff is often standing around talking or seems very unorganized. I happen to know a bit about birds so having an unknowledgeable staff is not apparent to me. I do think the service could be better. I have encountered staff members complaining about customers in front of other customers (myself included). Not professional. Putting that aside, the birds and wonderful! more

I have personally purchased several birds from Birds Exotic. They were all very healthy and groomed. After I bought my first bird from there I brought him to the vet, the vet said that he was in very good condition. When i purchased my umbrella cockatoo he was being hand fed this was my first bird i had to hand feed so to make my new companion feel comfortable and safe around me and the same for myself they asked if I would feel better if i kept the bird at the store until i felt that i could do it on my own. They also showed me how to prepare the food and feed him the proper way.\r I have been going to them for the past couple of yrs. and the staff has always been friendly and helpful with everything i needed. If i have any questions they always answer with knowledge . The store is always clean and well stocked with supplies. If anyone would ask me about bird purchases or suppplies i would recommmened Todd Marcus without a thought. They always have plenty of things for me to choo more

In Defense of Todd Marcus.... 1/28/2007

We bought an absolutely WONDERFUL African Grey parrot at Todd Marcus in June of '06. We live a little over 2 hours from the store, but we go there at least 3 times a year. I love the toys and food selection and the new store is much roomier now. We had a good experience when we bought our bird which was our first from Todd Marcus, but our 9th pet bird. Yes he was pricier than the breeder where we got most of our other birds(Woodys), but our Grey was worth every penny. He has a great temperament and was vet checked by our own vet and is healthy. We requested a weaned bird, even though we have hand fed before. I wouldn't recommend hand feeding to everyone though. We were previous parrot owners which might also have had something to do with how smoothly everything went with our transaction and our parrot. The place where we got our birds in the past has gone downhill. The toys are covered with dust, the store is dirty, the cages are dirty, the service is poor, and the parrot food is load more

I visited this store since I was interested in owning a bird. When I arrived, nobody asked me if I needed help. The employees were standing around talking. I finally asked someone to help me. They showed me an amazon parrot. They said this was a great family bird and would be fine with my 3 year old son. They said I could take the bird home that day with a feeding lesson (the bird still was taking formula). I have never done that before and did not feel comfortable. I was told "it's easy." I left wanting to do some more research. After surfing the web and checking out another bird store, I found that an amazon is probably the last bird I would want around my son. I do not recommend this place. I also learned from the other store that it is not good to take a bird on feedings, especially if I have never done it before. The bird could die if I fed it wrong. Do they have any education or love of animals at Birds Exotic, or are they just salespeople trying to make a quick commission? I wou more

Feel Very Misled 9/4/2006

Researched for months before buying a Macaw for my husband's b-day. Birds Exotic was said to be the biggest bird store around. Salesperson was very pleasant who sold us the bird but he turned out to be very unknowledgeable about the bird he sold us. We wanted a young but weaned bird. We were given paperwork with no birthdate. Later called to check and was told bird was several mos older than we were told at sale. Salesperson was rude and condescending claiming parrots live so long this didn't matter(Three months more than we thought in a pet store mattered to us). We were told our bird was molting. At 10 mos. he had NO tail and was kept on the floor (no perch) of a window box type cage. I thought this odd but believed the story I was given. Vet was outraged about the tail (appeared hacked off) and concerned about damage that would prevent growth. We've had a hard time with it but 6 mos later he's finally growing a nice tail. Early feathers were inspected by vet and he noted much stress more
