Researched for months before buying a Macaw for my husband's b-day. Birds Exotic was said to be the biggest bird store around. Salesperson was very pleasant who sold us the bird but he turned out to be very unknowledgeable about the bird he sold us. We wanted a young but weaned bird. We were given paperwork with no birthdate. Later called to check and was told bird was several mos older than we were told at sale. Salesperson was rude and condescending claiming parrots live so long this didn't matter(Three months more than we thought in a pet store mattered to us). We were told our bird was molting. At 10 mos. he had NO tail and was kept on the floor (no perch) of a window box type cage. I thought this odd but believed the story I was given. Vet was outraged about the tail (appeared hacked off) and concerned about damage that would prevent growth. We've had a hard time with it but 6 mos later he's finally growing a nice tail. Early feathers were inspected by vet and he noted much stress
