Bring cash and patience 9/12/2011

I've been going to Three brothers at least twice a year for over 30 years and have always had a good meal. The trick is to look over the menu online and pre-order your meal, let them know when you'd like your entre's served and you'll be fine. Everything at 3 bros is cooked from scratch, and a Burek takes 45 minutes to cook. people who've had a bad experience there probably had to wait too long to eat, drank too much serbian booze and were too eager to eat when the meals came to the table. Its true they don't take credit cards, so bring cash. And we ussually splita Burek and a salad for 2 with enough left-overs for Sunday breakfast. I'm 6'4"" and 275 and can eat so trust me that there's no shortage of food. more

Roast Suckling pig 6/23/2009

My wife and I have been to Three Brothers on several other occasions. This time, I thought I would try the roast suckling pig as my wife found it enjoyable on our last visit. I was very, very disappointed in this entree. It had thick layers of fat over bone and a small portion of edible meat. When I inquired about the state of my entree, I was informed that if the cut is too fatty, they give you a second piece. Unfortunately, this too was a small fatty piece that hardly made up for the poor original cut. How disapointing. Pros: flavor Cons: fatty with little edible portion more

Great Serbian Food , perfect Talapia and burek , russian salat and tasty bread.... I like Serbian coffe and plum brendy.. more

Very dissapointing 11/8/2008

I went with three other people and we were all dissapointed with the quality of the food. For the price we payed per plate I would expect that plate to be full, but the portions were very small, and the food was very bland. Service was good, but totally not worth it. For good serbian food go to Ilijas in Cudahy, Much better! Pros: Service was good Cons: High price, small portions more

Food like home for a Serbian girl 7/1/2008

This place is a gem. I am half Serbian and really miss my mother's great Serbian cooking. So going to Three Brothers is, for me, as close as I can get to sitting at my mother's table. The sarma and stuffed peppers are my favorite entrees. I know everybody raves about the burek, and it is really fabulous (especially if you take new people there - it really is impressive!!!!), but I think the one item not to miss is the Serbian salad. I have always gotten very helpful and friendly servers, and almost always the owner stops by the table. All in all, this place is a very special gem, far above the average for a business traveler like me. Make sure to order a glass of Slivovitz to end your very special meal at Three Brothers. Nazdravlje! Pros: The Serbian food is awesome Cons: A little hard to find the first time. more

BRING CASH 7/22/2007

\r Great place. I moved here after living in big coastal cities and find three brothers to be among the best restaurants anywhere. Even people not from Milwaukee told me to visit the place. I was not disappointed. \r \r The only drawback is that this place does not accept credit cards (which is not noted anywhere on the entrance and you won't find out until the bill comes) and the nearest ATM is a hike (I know, I had to make the hike after eating a great meal....). So bring CASH. Pros: food, ambience Cons: no credit card more

Great Serbian Food!! 9/4/2005

This place not only has incredible, homemade Serbian food, but a ton of charm and history. I've been going here for over 30 years, and it hasn't changed a bit. Still the same family making the same recipes, three generations now. And the portions are very large. Our favorites are sarma (stuffed cabbage), cevapcici (small hand rolled sausages), serbian salad (tomato, pepper, onion, and cheese), burek (filo dough filled with meat, spinach or cheese), and freshly made palacinka (crepes filled with preserves). The food is so high quality (they won a James Beard award a couple years ago), and the owner is a total character. He's about 80 years old, and is an ambassador for the city. Not to mention a great storyteller! Make a reservation, though, they fill up. Pros: food, inexpensive, history Cons: bring a map! more

Good for Carnivores 9/3/2005

If you're a vegetarian, your choices are cheese or spinach and cheese burek, an appetizer portion of stuffed grape leaves, or trying to cobble something together from the side dishes. There is a huge number of choices otherwise, and some of them are unusual--suckling pig, anyone? The burek is huge and takes a while to cook, but it's worth the wait. Meanwhile, the stuffed zucchini was good but not for someone with a hearty appetite. Service was average, but the Serbian owner made a point to greet us personally. Pros: good parking, ambience Cons: unusual portion sizes more

Cosy Eatery 7/14/2005

I travel extensively with my job to London//LA/New York etc and get to eat at the best restaurants. However, I find this restaurant so charming to visit upon my return. The food is comforting and hearty, the atmosphere is cosy and unpretentious. Yes the service can seem frosty at times - being european it seems pretty normal to me - and yes, the house wine is unlabelled, but it is reasonable and tastes just fine. The beef goulash is delicious as is the burek and the stuffed grape leaves. I have always managed to get a table regardless of whether I have booked and whether the restaurant is full or not. If you like your service sickly sweet and think you know about wine then maybe this place isn't for you. If you feel like trying something that has character and soul then you've found a place to go. Pros: good food, cosy character, friendly more

Authentic food, pleasant atmosphere.. 7/12/2005

Something really distinguished, explosion of flavors.... Homemade soups that taste nothing like you had before, they are meals in themselves Cakes and cookies tastiest on planet! Pros: Food, ambiance, service more

Mrs. Donna Langham 7/23/2003

My husband and tried going to this restaurant. The restaurant was absolutely empty and we were told we could not get a table because we did not have reservations made. I understand the place might get busy, but I would have thought they could have given us a table, especially because it was completely empty when we arrived. I would not recommend this place to anyone no matter how wonderful the food might be. I live and work in Bay View and try to visit all the local businesses. Cons: No reservation, No food more

very special 1/17/2003

I have to agree with the other reviewers, this is a wonderful place and not only for the food. The owner is a charming and graceful man who does not neglect any guest and personally sees to his comfort while his family serves him their delicious platters. My only regret is that I could not order more, because the menu is large and many dishes sounded wonderful to me. Desserts were wonderful, and not in the American way (which is not to my taste), more is better. Instead they are barely sweet and a wonderful punctuation to a lovely meal. The strudel was the best I have ever had. I will surely return if I am in Milwaukee again. Pros: food, atmosphere, service Cons: difficult to find more

one of our first dates was to this place 8/20/2002

If you want modern and fancy, don't go here. If you like great Serbian food, personal service and a restaurant with character, this place cannot be missed. We have yet to find a menu item we don't like. And you must try the Serbian salad (tomatos, peppers, onions and feta cheese in an oil and vinegar dressing). more
