The Tenderloin Room

very pretentious....very stiff...can't get comfortable.\r had the strip, tasted like old cow....very stringy and hard to cut through.....attentive service but I still felt like a second-class citizen dressed in one of my better suits.\r Repetitious service and I have no idea what's with the big bald guy 'greeting' us....very strange firs timpression.\r Very robotic. We had a dinner here about a year and a half ago. It was terrible. The service was decent enough. The appetizer cart - just okay. The steaks were totally overdone. We were seated on the upper level where I was able to watch the two ""chefs"" at the grill. The flame was so high - I thought twice about ordering the ""tenderloin"" - it really didn't appear that they knew what they were doing, and I was right - they didn't. The prices were WAY too high for the meal served. We were so dissappointed in the meal that we called to complain and found out that the restaurant mamgement had been transferred to the family children who changed things around a bit. I do not know if they were trying to cut costs or what - but I did suggest to hire actual chefs. These guys looked dazed and confused. They comped us a meal - reluctantly - but it was just so bad, we never went back. I just don't want to waste my time and effort and have the same thing happen. There are so many other places to dine in St. Louis. Quite a shame because I had been there roughly 15 or so years ago - and it was memorable and a positive experience. My wife and I had dinner here on Sunday evening, June 24, 2007 as we were staying at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel, in which the restaurant is located. In short, we just loved it. The lighting is subdued and the restaurant's decor is a combination of traditional (its been there since 1953) and modern, which really works. Our server, Frank, was understated and impeccable. Cocktails are huge and cold and promptly served. Appetizers are brought to the table in a cart from which selections are made. The shrimp were colossal and firm, with a great tangy sauce. Our Caesar salads were made tableside. My filet mignon was perfectly cooked rare with an excellent twice baked potato and steamed asparagus. My wife had the scampi which were delicious. The desserts did not seem to impress us, so we passed. The prices are very reasonable for food of this quality, substantially less than a commercial steak house like Ruth's Chris.\r The atmosphere was very romantic - we had a great corner booth. I took my wife to the Tenderloin Room because we were staying at the Chase Park Plaza and we needed somewhere romantic to eat. It worked out perfectly so we went back. Not only is the food great but they also have amazing concerts from time to time including Erin Bode. more

We were looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate a special anniversary. We made a bad choice by dining at the tenderloin room. The food was mediocre at best, extremely overpriced for the quality. The service was horrible, poor attitude, completely uninterested in providing us with service. For a restaurant at the Chase we expected much, much more. Bottom line don't waist your time or money. I ate here with a large group of co-workers and had a great experience. The food was great and the restaurant is very classy, set in the Chase in the Central West End. Definately put it on your list of restaurants to visit in st. louis. more
