Best

I would just like preface by saying that I am reviewing as a longtime server and someone who has worked in the service industry for almost a decade now. I am a fan of this restaur...

Worst

We are suffering from buyer's remorse after eating at the Melting Pot this past weekend. The food was good, the service was good, but it was not in any way worth the nearly $300 ...

Do not bother with this place! 10/6/2003

My friends & I were looking forward to trying out a new restaurant, especially since none of us have been to a fondue-style restaurant before. We were quite disppointed. We were ""greeted"" by a group of hosts who didn't seem to care that we were even there. Once seated, it got worse! Our server was slow-it took over 15 minutes between courses for him to show up and he never once stopped by to check on us. He was rude & condescending when we tried asking questions about the menu. The food was average-nothing special. The dessert was the best part, although nothing you couldn't make at home yourself (just cakes & fruit dipped in chocolate). The atmosphere was too noisy so it was hard to carry on conversations. Not to mention the menu was way overpriced too. Our experience was ruined by the very unfriendly & unattentive staff. Cons: poor service, noisy more

What a great time!!! 9/15/2003

I decided to take my sister out for a special night to celebrate her moving to Minneapolis....what a great choice this was!!!! My sister mentioned right away that she is a vegetarian and our server gave us several options to accomodate her....we had so much fun, the atmosphere is great, our server was wonderful, and I thought the whole experience was perfect...I would recommend reservations if you plan to eat on the weekend...I had set ours up for 6:15 PM, and when we got there the restaurant was dead. However,by the time we left, every table was full and there were several waiting to get in. It does take a few hours to get through the meal, especially if you are opting for the 3 and 4 course options and it does get a spendy , but for a fun night out, I would recommend this restaurant as a unique alternative. Pros: great service, beautiful atmosphere, delicious food more

Outstanding! 9/4/2003

I treated my boyfriend to this wonderful establishment for his birthday. We were both new to fondue and the staff was very helpful and extremely friendly. We went for the four course option which is really the way to go. There was way more food than we could possibly eat. It is slightly expensive and the meal does take a long time, but that is what I had in mind when shopping for a restraunt for the occasion. I would highly recommend the Melting Pot and cannot wait until my next trip there! Pros: Fun Staff, Great Variety, Relaxed more

Buyer's Remorse 8/11/2003

We are suffering from buyer's remorse after eating at the Melting Pot this past weekend. The food was good, the service was good, but it was not in any way worth the nearly $300 that we paid for the 4 course dinner for 4 (with only 2 drinks.) We were not dissatisfied with the experience, but were shocked with the prices. We almost left the restaurant when we first saw the menu, but were embarassed to make that request because we were celebrating a special occassion with family. Our money would have been much better spent elsewhere, and would have gone a lot further. Pros: Reservations, Service Cons: Too expensive more

Had a great, new experience 7/29/2003

Our experience was fantastic. We were seated in a quiet area and our server was friendly and informative. He gave us a lot of attention. He has a great friendly personality and took time to explain the choices and made our first experience even better. We wanted a relaxed meal and were not in a hurry. The food was great and the pace was relaxed. There was gentle jazz in the background, water wall in the front and a warm atmosphere for conversation. The restaurant and bathrooms were completely accessible. This was important because my friend uses a wheel chair. Parking was easy. We parked in the city lot and the elevator took us right to the restaurant. This is a great place for a special dinner when you want something different. We enjoyed the attention from the server who made us feel at home. Tell your friends! Pros: atmosphere, uniqueness, parking Cons: price more

A pot of gold 7/1/2003

I visited the restaurant with some friends, and we had a blast! The whole experience was great! We entered the door and we're greeted by an enthusiastic host staff. The restaurant was alive with happy customers. We were seated at a nice, private booth, and our server was friendly and answered all of our questions. The service was great and so was the food. The greatest part was the fondue experience. I recommend the chocolate fondue, it's incredible! The restaurant is a near perfect ten. I'm recommenting it to all my friends. If you want a great experience, this is a great place to go! Pros: great service, ambience, lots of fun more

If you want a cheeseburger, go elsewhere 6/21/2003

My husband and I took a couple as their anniversary present and we had an absolute blast (thank goodness the guy who wanted to drink shots of tequila all night WASN'T there being obnoxious). We easily dropped a few hundred dollars for dinner for four, but it isn't dinner...it's an experience. The service was AWESOME and the food was great...especially the chocolate dessert fondue with all the fruit, cakes and sweet somethings to dip it in. Totally worth it for people who want a great/fun night out and know that this dinner for two will cost you a hundie. Tip: Make sure you have a reservation, it helps get you in faster on the weekends. We were seated right away with our reservation. Pros: Great service, Awesome dessert, Fun for groups Cons: Need more sauces more

What a rip off 5/27/2003

My fiancee and I decided to try this restaurant for an early dinner. The place was totally empty - a virtual cavern! We came in and the snooty little genderless person at the front asked us if we had a reservation! We were seated in a small cramped space in an ocean of larger tables... The waitress was nice howevever a bit of a ditz for not explaining the $10 charge for the cooking style....I found the food to be bland and overpriced. Don't bother with this restaurant! After $80 later I was rather angry at the lack of food, quality and overall lack of charm! Cons: overpriced, bland bland food, snooty management more

Great Experience 5/20/2003

We celebrated birthdays recently at the Melting Pot and had a wonderful time. The food was good, but it was more the fonduing experience that we enjoyed. Having lived in Switzerland, I've had the opportunity to learn this art, and the Melting Pot was able to provide an authentic experience. Chocolate fonduing, however, is definitely an american creation, but what a wonderful invention! The meal was fairly pricey, but worth it for the special occassion as well as being able to slowly enjoy a 3-hour dining experience. Most wouldn't likely be able to afford to go frequently, but that's ok as it wouldn't be any fun if you did. Pros: Secluded seating, Great service, Cozy atmosphere Cons: Expensive more

First Date 5/9/2003

My date took me to The Melting Pot for our first date. It was an amazing experience. The staff was so attentive and the atmosphere was romantic and fun!! The food was wonderful - the presentation and quantity was top notch. My favorite part was the dessert. The chocolate fondue is to die for - dipping strawberries and brownies - YUMMY! I would definately recommend The Melting Pot as a place for everyone to dine. Pros: The service and food more

Glad they are here 4/7/2003

I go to the ones down in chicagoland all the time and I am glad they finally expanded up to the twin cities. Have the milk chocolate with ameretto.. devine! They also have great wine selection. LEAVE THE KIDS AT HOME, they are likely to get burnt on the pots and ruin good times for other patrons seeking out the romance of it all. Pros: cook to taste Cons: burns from the pots more

A Dining Experience 3/21/2003

The Melting Pot - grab your friends or family and plan for a 3 hour feast! Definitely go for the four course feast option (cheese fondue, salad, entree and chocolate fondue). The spinach/artichoke and fiesta cheese fondues rule. California salad is to-die-for with its raspberry dressing and crumbled blue cheese. Coq Vin cooking style is recommended (vegetable boullion base with burgandy wine, garlic and mushrooms- goes well with the Big Night Out entree (combination of various meats - filet mignon, pork, chicken, lamb and more). Mojo cooking style is excellent for the seafood entree (more of a citrus kick)! Ying Yang styled chocolate fondue is delectible with assorted fruits, pound cake, brownies and more! Service is excellent. Big groups? Request the private dining room. The experience is fun, relaxing and the food is amazing! more
