Salon Nervousness? 3/25/2011

As in, I was always one of those people that couldn't relax and enjoy the salon experience. Having stylists that are more interested in being stylists rather than someone who, you know, listens to what you have in mind, and even maybe takes a little time to get to know you. I saw Glenn (the owner) for extensions, and I swear from the beginning it was like I had always been going there. They're in a cool location in Belltown, and there is no pretension, no loud dance music or huge front desk manned by someone with an earpiece and better things to do than talk to you about, you know, hair. Glenn's a total professional, easy to talk with, work with, and knows, not just hair, but STYLE. He clearly individualizes his approach and really seemed to want to help my hair look great in the context of my personal style. My salon beef is gone and now I look forward to going, finally my salon experience is what it should be- relaxing, enjoyable, and confidence-building, rather than a vanity-related chore. So if you're like me, chill out and go to Gilt Edge and love going to the salon again. more

I found my new stylist!! 5/31/2010

I purchased a Groupon, which was offering cut/wash/style for $25. Since moving here I have not really found someone to do my hair and was only getting my hair cut when I flew back to Michigan. Um, that is not so convenient. The salon itself is kind of minimalist, has really cool huge canvas paintings on the walls and uses one of my fav product lines, Kevin Murphy. It wasn't like an uppity salon, but felt more like you were getting your hair cut in a gallery or something like that. I thought I'd just get a basic trim, as you never know with a new stylist, but I ended up walking out missing 7 inches and with seriously, one of the best cuts I've ever had (and people keep complimenting me, which is always fun.) Cadance was my stylist and she was super nice. She had some ideas and wanted to take a lot of length off my hair. She sat with me and talked with me for a bit about what it would look like, kind of played with my hair to show me what she was thinking, etc. She definitely took her time with me, which I appreciated as I was scared to death to cut my hair. She started cutting longer, then asking me if I was OK with that length, if I wanted to go shorter, etc. She did that seriously 3 or 4 times. She wanted to make sure I was comfortable with how it looked and I don't think she wanted me freaking out about how much hair I was removing. She made sure it was perfect before she finished. Also, she does free bang trims in between cuts, which is a bonus. All in all, for the first time ever I don't have crazy long hair but I am very happy with how it looks and I think found my new stylist in Seattle. Sierra is the BEST hair stylist period!! She has an amazing gift for color and she's incredibly artistic. The hair cuts are always PERFECT. Plus she's a GENUINELY wonderful fun great person!! Pros: Great lighting, relaxed atmosphere, serious style!! more

Not going to lie, Cadance gave me a PIMP @ S S haircut. Shes knows her Sh! T and takes her time. I actually got laid that night because my hair is so rad now. Glen walked me through my hair cut and explained everything that he was doing and why. Showed me how i could tame the beast aka my hair. He is truly one of the best hair stylist i've had who's been able to get my hair exactly the way i want it. Pros: Very friendly and personable and informative more

Best Hair cut and color ever! 10/14/2009

Glenn has been doing my hair for about 3 years and since then at least once a week I am stopped by someone and asked who cuts my hair. When I first went to GlennI told him "" I maybe in my 50's but I dont want an age appropriate hair cut""! My hair is always fun, a little edgy yet cut perfectly. Cons: Getting there from Port Orchard..but its worth it more

Great Cut 8/12/2009

After multiple friend recommendations, I finally went to see Glenn yesterday for a cut. He took the time to really evaluate my hair and my expectations. He suggested helpful products and styling tips, but was never pushy. My hair looks and feels fantastic and I can't wait to see him for my color. Go see him immediately if not sooner!! The best haircut I ever had 4/16/2009

I have had short hair since I was 12. I am now 40. I usually go to the best salons and best hairstylists, but I was never overwhelmingly happy with my hair. You know how it is. It is never quite perfect. I had my haircut with Glenn for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and it is honestly the best haircut I ever had. It is absolutely perfect. It looks darling, and every hair is just as long as it needs to be. He also gave me good product recommendations, again for the first time ever. Steven is the brains behind my look 4/2/2009

I went in there a year ago and said do what you want to me! Steven dyed my hair black. (Something I would have never done on my own.) And I loved it! I feel like I leave with my very own look. Glen is the greatest!!! 12/8/2008

I have been to The Guilt Edge Society for hair extensions, color, and cut and had an amazing experience each time. I have never had trouble making an appointment around my busy schedule. Everyone who works at the Guilt Edge is extremely friendly. The vibe of the salon is professional yet fun and spunky. It is by no means pretentious. They have extremely resonable prices and I recommend anyone and everyone to make an appointement with one of the lovely hair stylists at Guilt Edge! more

Gorgeous Cut and Color! 10/7/2008

I had been underwhelmed by my hair for a long time - boring, dull, dry. Each time I styled it I would become even more exasperated by the mediocrity. It was time for a change. Luckily for me I found The Gilt Edge Society and decided to give it a try. Glen cut and colored my hair. The entire experience was phenomenal. Firstly ,after looking at my hair he gave me the option of 2 or 3 different colors and styles which would work for my face shape and hair type. He then took the time to explain how to style my hair properly and showed me products which would help me acheive this (without ever appearing saleman-like) - who does that? It's been three weeks, the cut just keeps getting better and the color is gorgeous. Highly recommended. Thanks Glen! more

The best haircut and color ever!! 8/10/2008

After a complete disaster at another salon in Seattle I was very hesitant to get my hair cut and colored again. After being long overdue I called and got an appointment with Holly. We went over the exact color I wanted and we figured out a color that would work. She spent 3+ hours working on my cut and color and gave me exactly what I wanted, with a little touch of her own style and it is perfect!! This is one of my favorite cuts/colors ever. Very rarely do I ever recommend hair salons, but I would recommend Holly and the Gilt Edge Society to anyone looking to get their hair done. Holly is AMAZING! 7/3/2008

I am new to Seattle and I avoided getting my hair done for a few months, mostly because I am very picky and usually disappointed when I get my hair done away from my hometown hairdresser back in Boston. But after being recommended to The Gilt Edge Society, I thought I would give it a chance. I called and they made me an appointment with Holly and I couldn't have been more pleased. Amazing cut and color each time! 6/28/2008

I've been going to Holly at The Gilt Edge for a few months now. Each time she has done an amazing job - exactly what I wanted. She really listened to what I wanted. She just did my color and it is perfect. I had BRIGHT red added to my dark hair and they're vibrant. The prices are very fair. Best hair in town- worth the wait??? 6/15/2008

I have never been disappointed with my cut or color from Steven. He is a genius and does an amazing job with my hair! My only complaint is that he has never once been on time for my appointment. I am a respectful person and always show up on time. I usually wait at least 45 minutes, sometimes even an hour past my scheduled appt time before I actually sit down in the chair. If he didn't do such amazing work- I would never go back. Pros: Steven is a master at hair Cons: Steven always seems to be running late more

Excellent Haircut! Great Service! 4/3/2008

This is my first review, but I felt compelled to write.I had not had my hair cut in over a year. I could never be bothered to find a stylist after moving across country (I live in Dallas, TX). I planned a visit to Seattle to visit my brother, and he insisted he get me an appointment with Stephen. Am I glad I agreed. Stephen took the time to listen to what I wanted (not too short, easy to maintain) and was ok that I didn't have any specific ideas for a style. He was able to see what I couldn't, namely, the type of cut I needed. He did a great job. I am very pleased with my cut. I could not be happier. The entire experience was stress free. The only problem? I now have a stylist 2200 miles away from my home. Pros: Friendly, Great Service Cons: 2200 miles away from my home. more

Really cool salon 2/21/2008

I am so excited about my new haircut and color!! Holly really took time to find the right colors for me with the color chart. She took time with me to find out what the right cut would be for my needs. I've never had a cut this cool before! I felt like a movie star leaving the salon! Holly is so cute and fun to talk to, she does what she was meant to do..hair! Pros: really cool salon with art on the walls and good music Cons: nothing whatsoever!! more
