Our food came out on time and was prepared just right. I would recommend this place to a hungry person the portions are huge! Service as ok but the food made up for it! I

This place is over priced and not that big a deal. I went in for a burger (they weren't that busy) but a problem developed with my order. First, a guy who wasn't my waiter bro...

Burger Utopia 4/5/2007

This one is a no brainer folks. If you like burgers (actually food in general) this is a most try place. They have a beef, turkey, chicken and veggie option for your burger just to start with! They say there is something like 300,000 different possible combinations of burgers and toppings. They also have a beer and wine list to compliment the great food. Remember to save room (which is tuff with the sweet fries) for dessert because they have fresh scooped shakes that are to die for. Pros: The food Cons: There is only one more

Good but overhyped 4/2/2007

Went at 6pm on Saturday, it was already crowded but we just waited 10 minutes before we snagged a seat at the counter/bar. Average french fries. Burgers were good and done just the way we ordered, but they were nothing special (I could cook a burger at home that would be just as good as The Counter's). Service was lovely and fast. I will go back, but only because it is geographically convenient for me and I do like that you can customize how you want your burger. But otherwise, I would not drive out of my way for this place, nor would I wait more than 20 minutes tops to sit down. Pros: Service, Fun ambience, Great for picky eaters - lots of toppings to choose from Cons: too much hype, the food was good but just average more

Best Build it Yourself Burger in the World 2/9/2007

Not only is the Counter a total success when it comes to the interiors, art work on the wall and overall atmosphere, but it is by far the best place to go if you are a VERY picky person when it comes to making your meal because here, you can build your own burger and there is more to offer than just a pickle slice and mayo. You can pick the meat, or veggie patty; you can pick the size (believe me a 1/3 is plenty) and then you have a list of options to top it off. The Sweet Potato Fries are heavenly and do not be afraid of the Fried Pickle Chips, they are actually pretty good. Unique beer list (blue label Chimay...mmm) and they even serve floats and shakes! Makes Me Happy!! 2/3/2007

Although I usually go for the veggie burger (best ever), I've been hooked on the monthly specials -- this month, the ahi tuna burger is to die for -- I love it on the bed of mixed baby greens with wasabi aoli. Nice wines, too. Apple crumble dessert is a great ending. Truly a fun place -- I don't mind the long wait -- it's well worth it. Pros: Great fresh food, fun vibe more

i have been here a handful of times, and each time is always a good burger experience, where I can build my own burger, even determining the type and size of meat.........good quality ingredients, nice fun friendly staff, usually prompt seating. Its a good place if you want to a have a simple burger exactly your way, with a couple of beers. Kid-friendly, family-friendly, loudish-friends-friendly, and all is well priced! I thought the Counter was overrated but maybe it's because my expectations were too high. It's a nice place to eat if you like fancy burgers- they let you customize your burger in many ways. But I like my burger with just the basics. more

I actually found a better hamburger place. I think its by far theeee best hamburger i have ever tasted. This place is called "" Father's Office"" in Santa Monica. The only catch is you have to be 21 and over to enter this bar... check it out. Its hands downt he best. Expect a wait to get tables, its always packed. The rest. is only open 5pm- 1am. more

Goood burgers. 12/23/2006

We went on a night that was super busy. The 20 minute wait was less dissapointing when we ran into friends coincidentally. And the burgers were great (my friend was raving). I had a beef burger with peppercorn steak sauce and blue cheese, and I recall that the sweet fries and onion strings were unbelievably good. Looking forward to going back, maybe on the sunday this time. more

I love a good cheeseburger and this place is definetely in my top ten. The meat is top quality, the toppings are yummy and creative, and although their selection is huge, I have discovered my favorite combination and it is consistently delicious. The service is a little spacy at times, but nevertheless... I recommend this place to everyone! Pros: burgers! Cons: there's usually a wait... but then again, it's worth it. more

Every time I visit The Counter (at least weekly), I'm always very satisfied. Not only the very best burgers, shakes and sweet potato fries, the vibe just feels right. Top-notch quality, great taste, friendly people, fun time -- the perfect burger joint. Surprisingly good beers and wines, too. I love finding real pieces of strawberry in my strawberry shake. My boyfriend and I schlep across town from Hollywood every time we're craving one. It's not just the strawberry shakes; try a chocolate peanut butter shake or chocolate peanut butter malt. The lines maybe long, but the burgers are delicious. There must be a hundred places in the LA area where you can just get a burger, but The Counter in Santa Monica is the only place where you can get you idea of the perfect customized burger. Every time I go, I create something different, they claim you can create thousands combinations. I've even started naming them (yes, I know it sounds bad, you'd even assume I was a poor lonely single guy, but nope, even my girlfriend gets into the fun of it.) \r If you're turned off by the lines, we've discovered going during off hours is the key. Have an early dinner between 4 and 6, or eat late after the dinner rush around 9. \r If you're intimidated by the plethora of choices, ask your server for a recommendation, they're like the Santa's Little Elves of burgers, and they'll help you design the perfect combinations.\r Pros: Burgers, burgers, burgers Cons: that the burgers aren't free more

Only so-so burger meat 11/18/2006

It's a really cute restaurant with a cool, modern take on ""diner decor"" and I love the concept that you can customize your burger with wacky ingredients like grilled pineapple or hardboiled eggs (or more traditional toppings if you prefer). Unfortunately, I've found that every time I go my toppings are the best part of the burger. The burger itself is kind of bland. And because so much of your bite of burger consists of, well, the burger, even an adventurous concoction like black bean salsa & guacamole burger comes out on the bland side. If they could just spice up their burger meat, though, I'd be a huge fan because their topping list is very creative and the make-your-own activity is fun. more
