Pros: I will rate this resturent 3rd worrest from last. more

Convenient and most of the time good 2/6/2009

I love indian food! Since this restaurant is so close to the theaters, I tend to eat there a lot. Although I have come across a few errors in the entrees, for the most part everything is delicious, I continue to eat there when I'm in the neighborhood. more

Great Place!! 11/21/2008

I love this place! It's right in my neighbourhood so I'm a big regular, either to sit or get take out. Anything I haven't devoured home comes home with me and it's just as good the next day. The food is yummy!! The bread, the Nariyal (I can't even say it or spell it but it's delicious!), the Dosa's Mmmmm... The staff here are the best, attentive, professional & friendly. Service is always quick & impecable. I've had lunch there during work and gotten in and out in about 40 minutes. I didn't do the buffet cause I didn't think the spice level would be to my liking but it'd looked decent. I've also had great leisurly dinners on a Friday night with a bottle of wine and a couple of friends. Enjoy! Pros: Great Service more

""Two thumbs up"" from a Bombay-born boy 12/3/2007

Tantric Grill is great . . . authentic Indian cuisine, with some innovative twists to keep it interesting. Their butter chicken rivals anything I had while growing up in India, and the Chicken 65 is on my list of ""dishes I'd take with me on a desert island"". And don't miss the kheer (rice pudding) for dessert, which is superb. The luncheon buffet is excellent, but I'd recommend it as well for a perfect evening meal venue (especially if you're doing a theatre or other Boston performance; the convenient location can't be beat). Atmosphere is also a draw: striking decor and a very nice bar with interesting offerings. Great service to boot. Highly recommend. Pros: Authentic Indian cuisine, excellent service, great bar more

Great service, good food 12/2/2007

We arrived with high expectations, which is perhaps why it didn't quite accomplish a 5 star rating for us. One thing is for sure however: the service was impeccably attentive and quick. The menu spanned from all over India, an unusual provision for an Indian restaurant- and each of the dishes we ordered were uniquely prepared. For such an unusual restaurant, with such a convenient location for nightlife-participants, it was very empty for a Saturday night. I anticipate with increased word-of-mouth, this restaurant will do great. All-in-all, we will probably come again for the great drinks and convenient locale, but it seems the Indian company we were with had much better things to say about Kashmir & Mela when it came to genuinity of cuisine. Pros: Good location, Clean, Good service, Cons: empty restaurant, not entirely genuine cuisine more

Tantric is among the very best. 10/2/2007

As someone who has been sampling Indian restaurants in the Boston area for the past several years, I can say that Tantric is among the very best to be found. There is a wider variety of dishes offered than in most Indian restaurants, and the consistency in quality among the various dishes is also unusual. The degree of spiciness--which is so important in Indian cuisine--is carefully arranged when the order is taken, and I've never been disappointed with the results in this area when served (as I am fairly frequently in other restaurants). The servers and the owner are very friendly and forthcoming on all matters concerning Indian food, and even on matters of Indian culture. So not only the food makes it a real pleasure to dine there. The lunch buffet is second to none. And, oh yes, the coconut chutney is absolutely out of this world. more

If you enjoy Indian food this is the place to go 12/31/2006

My wife and I enjoy Indian food more than any other so when Tantric opened in 2004 we were very excited and we have been back many times. The food is always exceptional and the wait staff is attentive and friendly. The spicing of the meals is just right and the prices are very reasonable. If you enjoy Indian food and a pleasant atmosphere this is the restaurant for you. Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere more

Good Indian food, Great Cocktails, Crappy Wait staff 11/20/2006

We went on a Friday evening, got a great table, and then waited 10-15 mouted for someone to bring water, and another 10 for our orders to be taken. Our waiter hardly spoke English, and thus had a hard time answering our questions. We were never told about specials, but heard other tables getting the 411 on specials. I asked a waitress (Not ours) for a coke and she told me "" I'm not your waitress, I cant get anythung for you"" (!) I used to be a waitress for years and know you NEVER do that!!! At the very least, she could have said ""I'll tell your waiter"". I doubt if I ever go there again! Pros: The food is good, flavorful, great variety Cons: Staff attitudes are AWFUL!! more

Disappointing food 11/3/2006

I tried this place when it first opened about a couple years ago, the food was pretty bad, and i haven't bothered going back (even though i live down the road and eat Indian food at least once a week). Well i was convinced to go back last week with some friends and figured Tantric must have learned something over time...i was wrong. Now some people in our group liked some of the dishes but there were enough dishes that were either poor or barely average that I couldn't call it a good food experience overall. Particularly bad for some reason were some of the staples like daal, malai kofta, etc...not sure how an Indian restaurant can get them so wrong. Plus sides though were that it is stylish place, has a great drinks list, and a good location. I'd go back for a drink and possibly some apps but not dinner. more

Food is poor 10/13/2006

I was disappointed by the food at Tantric. The chicken appetizer ressembles something you would find at a Chinese take-away rather than an Indian food restaurant. more

thumbs up 8/10/2006

Overall, some good, interesting dishes. The bar is impressive and the bartender was friendly. We found the manager to be very pleasant as well. However, I agree with some of the comments about the service. Our server, Victoria, was one of the worst waitresses I've personally ever seen. I'm hoping she no longer works there, because otherwise the place is nice and I'd like to go back. Pros: bar, bartender, manager Cons: Victoria the waitress more

Favorite in the theater district 7/25/2006

While its certainly not the best Indian in town, this is the place I always end up at when seeking dinner in the theatre district. more

Sub Par Service 6/15/2006

Wow, I was stunned by the lack of service at Tantric. My food came out a good 25 minutes before my date's, we weren't brought plates and it took them a 15 minutes to process the bill. I would not recommend this establishment. The service is the worst I have ever experienced in my life. Pros: Close to theatres Cons: Horrific service, unhelpful waitstaff, rude manager more

User review by aalonso 3/6/2006

great place to go after a good movie at the Boston Common theater. The food was really good, the service was excellent and the price was OK. I don't know much about Indian food, so we asked the waiter, who made as some nice recommendations. A great choice. The only con was that we had to wait for 30 minutes to be seated (the place was a bit crowded on a Friday at 9:30pm), but the bar was a good 'waiting point'. Pros: service, food, price Cons: waiting to be seated more

i really enjoyed the dinner I had there, and felt that it was well worth the $. For two people expect to pay 30-40 bucks. i tasted the eggplant which was yummy. and i had the chickpeas and also veggie samosas. all were quite tasty! Pros: good food, nice ambience, prompt seating more

Unbelievable! A Boston must! 2/5/2006

I have grown up eating Indian food all my life and this is the best I've ever had. I've been to Kashmir on Newbury several times and it was a decent experience. But Tantric takes it to a whole other level. The ambience and service were excellent! But the food is unbelievable. After having our appetizers, we ordered another round! They were that good! I had the chicken tikki marsala as my main entree (spicy) and it blew my mind away. Tantric also did justice to the basmati rice. Even the drinks were amazing. Run, do not walk, to this restaurant. It will not disappoint! Pros: Food, Service, Ambience Cons: Nothing more
