I didn't expect to find an experience like this in Charlestown. I really like North African food, but I primarily went because a group of my friends wanted to go to a cigar loung...

Why Take Reservations 6/9/2005

My girlfriend and I booked on Open Table for 8:00 and when we arrived (on time) we were told to get a drink at the bar and that our table would be ready in 15 min. 20 min later we were told that it would be another 15 min. Finally, 45 min after our reservation we told them that we would wait no longer and left after paying for drinks at the bar. No effort was made to correct the failure to keep our reservation and we were allowed to simply walk out without a manager even being called. After the fact, I noted several reviews regarding the service at Tangierino and wish I had looked in advance. Blowing off a reservation when one requires a credit card to make a reservation is arrogant, rude and is reflective of sophomoric ownership who does not value repeat customers. more

great hookah 5/24/2005

been there so many times i cant even remember. i went ther 3 times in 6 days before! the food is great (pricey but worth it) and there are at least 6 flavors of hookah! the waitress is hot and the owners are extremely friendly! more

Update to my negative review 5/22/2005

The owner of the restaurant went out of his way to contact us to apologize for the way we were treated. He asked us to come back and he would provide us with special appetizers and a bottle of wine 'on the house'. He was extremely nice and very apologetic so... since we already know the food is delicious we will take him up on his offer and are hopeful that we'll have a much more enjoyable end to our next evening there. more

a romantic experience 3/5/2005

What a romantic restaurant, it like magic, flowers, candles, music ....I could not leave the restaurant. When the food arrived it was another magic. Every spice and every touch of the plate was well thought and well executed. Tangierino is a concept that really admire. and like to congratulate the man who made this moroccan experience possible Pros: LOW SEATING, SHOW, DRAFT BEER more

User review by darlingkitty 3/5/2005

I didn't intend to go out to dinner, I was coming back from an errand in Charlestown and stopped into the restaurant because I saw the glow of the candlelight. It was a great secret hidden behing those curtains... a quiet atmosphere, great aromas, and and a beautiful decor! I sat at the bar (in the most comfortable bar stools ever!) and had some deliciously smooth harira soup to warm me up, juicy beef tenderloin, and later tried one of their unusual cocktails. Both were great! I was sure to make a reservation so that I can enjoy the full meal next time. more

Best Dinner I had in a long time 3/5/2005

This was my first time at this exceptional place. The food was amazing and and what toped it all of was the belly dancer. I have not seen anything like this in Boston. Thanks for a great night. We will be back soon. more

Good Food, Bad Service 2/28/2005

I had a reservation there for a group of 7 on a Saturday night. The good things about it are: the food is good, the ambience is very soothing, and the main waiter that we had was very nice. However, in total, the experience had more to be desired. The waitstaff minus our main waiter were all very rude, they brought us the check as one person was trying to enjoy their main entree. They also came by and actually told us that they had a party there waiting for the table we were sitting at and we should try to hurry it along. The service is starting to head where most restaurants go when they get greedy and insist on volume versus service. I hope they clean up their act because they have all of the right pieces but just not one of the most important ones. Pros: Good Ambience Cons: Poor Overall Service more

Horrible Valentine's Day Experience 2/13/2005

I made a reservation for Valentine's Day, Monday 2/14, back in January. The Saturday before, the restaurant called to confirm the reservation. When I arrived at the restaurant, the hostess was unable to find my reservation and seated my date and me in low uncomfortable seats near the bar. The canned music made conversation impossible and the belly dancer seemed inappropriate for V-Day. Furthermore, the only option was a $75 prix fixe menu that the restaurant did not bother to tell me about ahead of time, even though I had spoken with them on two separate occasions. $250 total for a mediocre dinner -- I will not be coming back. Pros: Food Cons: Incompetent staff, Loud music, Overly dim lighting more

last valentine's 2/9/2005

I went with my boyfriend to Tangierino last valentine's day and had a really wonderful time, and we may do it again! There were fresh rose petals on the tables, candlelight everywhere, and the music was quiet, but exotic. I couldn't have imagined a more romantic place! We had the chicken b'stila which was very good as an appetizer, and the couscous dinners were light and fluffy. We still made room for a delicious chocolate souffle, my favorite part of the meal! This is definitely the place to go for an intimate experience. Last year the hookah bar wasn't open so we didn't get to go there, but it is now, so maybe we will have the chance! more

Deserve More Praise 11/4/2004

I am truly shocked that this restaurant does not get more priase. It is fabulous. Both the apps and entress are delicious and the setting very hip but not over the top. If you love lamb this is also the place - they have two lamb entrees that are to die for. But they also have fishes, meats and I think even a vegitarian dish. It on charlestowns arrable main street and right down from Olives. It surprises me that it is not packed every nite of the week. One last thing the owner and his wife are very pleasant and the service good. Pros: Food, Decor, Service more

Not authentic Morrocan Food 9/12/2004

The food was excellent. The ambience was nice, though a bit crowded for space. At the time we made reservations, we were told that the belley dancing would start at 8pm. But we were sorely dissappointed. When asked, we were told she would be coming on any minute now. (We left at 9.15 pm without seeing any entertainment) We also felt rushed. After finishing our meal, we were told that we would find the sheesha room a better place for dessert and we could see the entertainment there, but that room was crowded and therfore no place to sit and enjoy dessert - which I was looking forward to. Overall, the food was good. We felt rushed after our meal (reminded me of being in a Chinese Restaurant). Too bad the service didn't match the food. PS: This isn't authentic Morrocan food. Pros: Good Food Cons: , Rushed after a meal more

lolitagirl 8/29/2004

I came to Tangierino at the recommendation of a friend who lives in the area. I had heard the food was very authenthic, but was delighted to find that inside the doors lie an entire Moroccan experience! We choose to lounge on the sofas instead of a traditional table while savoring incredibly fluffy couscous accompanied by spicy lamb sausages. There were four of us, and each one of us had a deliciously indescribable meal. Next time we will save room for dessert, but we were eager to run next door and sample the sheesha for the first time. It was a truly memorable and exotic evening out! more

Disappointed 8/23/2004

My experience here was not only disappointing but also frustrating. The staff was pretentious & unfriendly, contrasting with the ambience. The music was so loud that we couldn't communicate with our waitress and as a result, she brought the wrong wine twice. The menu was difficult to read - we needed a flashlight & larger print. The table was so low making it uncomfortable to eat without hunching over or spilling. Most importantly, the food was disappointing, average and over priced. North African food is my favorite cuisine, and this just doesn't compare to other restaurants in Boston. Lastly, the meal was rushed. If you put your fork down to rest your back, they removed your plate. I was looking for a unique romantic meal and ended up being pushed in and out in exactly 55 minutes. During which, we were forced to down 3 courses and over priced wine. Pros: Authentic decor, bellydancer for $2.50, hookah bar Cons: , average food, over priced more

Hookah bar 6/26/2004

We went to Tangierino to try the hookah bar, since we both enjoy smoking sheesha and have been looking for a place here in Boston to do so. While very different than the hookah bars we frequented in San Diego (the alternative style Sinbad and eclectic Fumari), we had a great time at Tangierino. We enjoyed a bottle of wine, our server was great, and the sheesha was perfect. We enjoyed the peaceful, relaxing, yet elegant ambience of the den, which is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. I would highly recommend it to anyone!! Pros: Great ambience, Good sheesha, Great service more

I went to Tangierino for first time after a year or so. I was originally impressed by the decoration, but I was even more surprised by their new style. Every inch of the room looks exactly as I imagine Morocco to be! The food not only, smelled delicious, it was delicious. I had the chicken b'stila because someone recommended it to me, but I was equally pleased with my lamb m'rouzia. I never knew dinner could be so sweet. Thanks for the experience! more

I went to Tangierino because I had recently returned from a trip to Morocco and was craving Moroccan food. I was delighted to find that it was authentic both in atmosphere and food! I was able to sit on a couch next to my friend and stay for a very long time without the waiters seeming impatient to turn their table. The tuna tartare is a great appetizer, and I wish I knew how to make that Moroccan myself! more

hugh's review 4/9/2004

I am actually a regular at Tangierino, so I would like to share my opinion with those who don't know about it. I have come to Tangierino to relax at the bar or to have intimate dinners, and I continue to come back because the food is consistently excellent and full of flavours I just can't find anywhere else. The staff is gracious and the atmosphere is unequalled in its uniqueness. I miss the days of the hookahs, but I am told they are coming back soon. I will be waiting! more

I consider myself to be a picky diner, and whenever I go, there is always something missing, but it was one of the few times that I thought both captured by the atmosphere and impressed by the details in the meals. The lamb was spectacular and the service was extremely knowledgeable. But the biggest part that I enjoyed the most, is really the food and the atmosphere. I definitely recommend this! more
