Best Herb Garden 3/21/2010

All the locals on the north side of town will tell you to go here; I like it for its very complete selection of herbs for your herb garden. Other nurseries will have some of this but none of that, or they will run out of a stock item such as cilantro. Swansons has every herb you will ever use, and they will have it in stock. If you dare to purchase anything else here, however, you will pay through the nose. The most expensive garden center, bar none, in Seattle. They give you "monopoly money" coupons with your purchase to bring you back here another time. You'd save more than the monopoly money is worth by going to Sky Nursery instead (for everything but the herbs!). They do have one of the city's largest selections of "garden art" and glass -- but very, very pricey. Employees are really not available to help, basically at all. If you are very patient and persistent enough to call/wait for one, you will find that they answer your question if it is an easy one, but they really do not have time for more complicated questions. You are on your own here, and at a premium price. So, dream a little dream, look at the large variety of flowers, trees and herbs -- some beautiful plants here -- but really, if you are money smart, or a beginning gardner, you need to buy elsewhere, where the prices are more in line with reality and there is more help to answer your questions. Pros: best selection of herbs! Cons: $$$$$$$ Most Expensive Nursery in Town more

Gorgeous! 8/15/2009

Such a gorgeous nursery! The combination of their rows of beautiful, healthy plants and helpful staff make this my favorite place to buy plants in Seattle. Everything I purchase from Swanson's thrives in my garden (which is no small feat, considering I tend to garden by neglect). I was confused by the previous review, because every encounter I've had with the staff at Swanson's has been pleasant and informative. They always stop to answer any questions I've had, and if they don't know the answer will track down someone who does. Pros: helpful, knowledgeable staff, beautiful plants Cons: expensive more

RUDE RUDE RUDE STAFF 6/13/2009

I will not be going back. There are PLENTY of other garden centers in Seattle. I am pretty sure they do not care about one person or the influence of one person on people....as they really don't seem to care about the "person" while in there shop. I went to look for a few indoor and some out of door plants today. I was not acknowledged by any of the staff even when I confronted them with a question...I was told "I don't know" and walked away from...asked a different person and she was " Short, snippy and spoke with a really nasty edge to her voice as if she was annoyed someone interupted her doing nothing... Really an upleasent experience with seemingly unknowledgeable stafff. Pros: lots of plants Cons: snooty, rude, snippy gardening staff more
